@DRW50 I don't recall a Love of Life SOD cover with her.

Interesting that she never went back to acting. I recall she was offered Y&R after LOL was cancelled but declined. Seems perhaps acting really wasn't for her.

She briefly changed her mane to Gittana I recall.

Courier Express, 29 April 1979 by Jon-Michael Reed

NEW YORK - CBS's "Love of Life" has undergone many creative changes since last fall when new producer Cathy Abbi spruced up the visual look of the show with dynamic stunning sets and costumes. But a beautiful environment does got a good soap opera make. The story, under headwriter Jean Holloway, has gone to the dogs.

The prime focus centers on a ridiculous story about locating Bambi Brewster's parents. At first, since the girl was in critical condition, the search seemed logical. Now that she has recovered and not expressed the least bit of interest in her boss Ray Slater's locating her family, motivation and reason has flown out the "'Love of Life"" story window. AND, HAS ANYONE out there in videoland been able to make sense out of the horde of various characters bearing the Brewster name that Ray contacted in Des Moines, where half the.town of Rosehill has journeyed to join Ray in the dismal hunt? The story's core characters have been left in limbo, meanwhile, with absolutely nothing progressing on other story fronts.

"'Love of Life's" doldrums may be reversed, however,. soon when yet anothér new headwriter Ann Marcus takes over the writing helm. Marcus was in charge of the Days of Our Lives story til last fall. Prior to that she had co-created "Mary Hartmann, Mary Hartmann and even earlier had scripted 'Search for Tomorrow." Her, expertise hopefully will bring "'Love of Life"out of the pits.

Thanks for letting us know. That channel hasn't had any soap content up in a while.

I suppose it is something of a blessing that enough episodes have been uploaded from 1952/1953 that I wasn't sure if this was new to us or not. I never do know why some periods have a lot of survival data and others don't.

Well to put that style of writing into perspective -- some TV sitcoms were still being written like radio comedies well into the mid-1960s (Ozzie and Harriett, Hazel, and Petticoat Junction, for example). And to be honest, most of those sitcoms were still rather funny.  So radio-style writing was/is not necessarily bad writing.  Give me Love of Life from 1953 anytime!  It can't be as bad as any of the four remaining US television soaps in 2024.

    • I want to encourage everyone to go vote in the Sudsies! https://x.com/SudsMedia/status/1928963890752168176 Suds and Squared Circle Media @SudsMedia Sudsy Voting is now open! Go to http://suds-media.com/sudsyvoting to vote for the entire month of June! Off the top of my head one interesting example of creative nominating is that the entire cast of BTG is up for Best Soap Debut! (I hope I'm getting that category name correctly! I was confident but then, oy.) And, any Kraze fans they're up for Best Soap Couple!
    • To each their own. The fashions on Y&R are questionable at best.
    • I'm so happy that the four MSW tv movies are now on Tubi.. and I also think I saw the 12 seasons of the show on there as well.
    • Well he was cute. And we should be thankful the show has day players. It was a way of getting Dani to reveal her relationship to Andre, although not really necessary-unless he pops up again.   Harsh! I like Jacob a lot. But I think they need more depth, not just being the nice married couple with a social justice streak. As for Vern and Nita, I do find them a little overbearing at times with their posturing and entitled attitude.  And Uptown. This is where the lack of workplace sets is a problem. If more characters worked at the police staion, or Bill's office/Vanessa's etc  there would be more natural places for people to cross paths and  interact.
    • Yes Daphne left in the May 26 episode
    • Haha, I get it. I was too old when Halloweentown was popular with the kids, but I did go back and watch the first two about 6-7 years ago and actually thought Marnie was a likable lead and she was pretty good, for a movie like that. But now watching GL and seeing her as a young child, I totally get what you're saying. She's annoying haha.
    • I feel bad for judging a child, but, to be fair, she's over 40 now. My daughter was into Halloweentown when it reran on the Disney Channel in the 2010s. I wasn't impressed then, either.
    • Isn't that funny how certain memories as young children stick with you through life... Haha I totally get what you mean. That's how I felt with GL in the beginning, but then I got used to it. Seeing so many of my favorite AMC characters on GL was wild - Walker, Irizarry, Dusay, Budig, Aleksander, Gil Rogers, etc.  Ironically, it helps that Irizarry and Dusay played both mother/son in both shows. I know Marcy Walker was wasted on GL as Tangie, but selfishly I'm so glad she was. When she left GL and returned immediately to AMC as Liza Colby, man was it such a great storyline. The Tad/Dixie/Liza triangle was so emotional, tense and memorable. The AMC fans got lucky with that one. WRCW, Tad/Liza working together, the affair, then Jason Sheffield and the shooting on-set... all amazing stuff.   LOL!
