OLTL: Discussion for the week June 16-20

I think the difference is that it's turning on her. It's not just that he doesn't like Cole it's the way Todd's treating her. He blackmailed her and when he accidentally pushed her down a flight of stairs he was so consumed with his anger for Cole that he couldn't even be bothered to check to see if she was breathing or not. I think Starr went along with all Todd's crap for so long because in her heart she thought that in his own twisted way he had her best interests at heart and would never heart her. Even though he manipulated her and used her against Blair he never really hurt her in a way that seemed intentional. For years he's been able to screw her over and apologize and she always forgave him but now she's grown a backbone. It's something he didn't expect as evidenced by the scene in the hospital when he said "You forgive me right?" and she said no and he seemed taken aback by it. For me the part of this storyline i'm looking forward to the most is when Todd really has to deal with the fact that he pushed the people he cared about away it's not all some conspiracy out to get him. Now as to whether that will actually happen I don't know, but there's always hoping.

Loved today's episode but as someone else mentioned this would have fit better if it wasn't a Friday episode. It left me disappointed because it's not the type of episode you expect on a Friday. Nothing exciting really happened and there was no cliffhanger(hint the name cliffhanger friday). That being said I really enjoyed it. I thought the scenes between Marcie and Starr were very well written and perfectly acted by both ladies. I was actually very glad that Marcie went off on Starr because I feel she deserved it. What Starr did by telling that lie was horrible and I'm glad she's owning up to it and genuinely feels remorse.

I don't think Marcie is going to want to adopt little Starrlet(who ever came up with that name thank you) and I'm glad about that. She and Michael are just getting back on track and she's finally coming to terms with losing Tommy. This baby would screw up everything and I just think it's a bad idea.

I thought the Markko/Langston/dayplayer scenes were overall kind of lame and pointless but I loved the last few scenes that Markko and Langston had when they were alone. JT and BU work so great opposite one another and the Larkko relationship brightens up the show for me. I love them and thought the last scene was really sweet. Would it be so hard for the writers to give Larkko a date? I mean have they ever been on a date? The first date that Sole has had in over a year was a breakup. Actually the only date I can remember them having before that was their first date on Halloween when Britney told the entire school that Starr's father was a rapist. Seriously, where are the happy young people? These people are becoming borderline depressing.

You know, I agree with you. :o That almost never happens Ryan (btw, I agreed with you about Jeanne Cooper's award too).

But I have to say, it's true to a teenager. As the mother of two teens, Starr is very realistic. She just feels what she feels when she feels it, and she also acts upon it. It really is annoying. But that's how teens are.

As much as Friday's episode bored me, I think the overall interest and commentary it has drawn from posters on here is a very good sign of the current state of OLTL. Even an episode that featured rather unpopular characters (John, Cole), a lot of dayplayer extras, and no real cliff-hanger still impressed a lot of fans.

For me, my major issue was that none of the characters I care about (other than Marcy, Starr, Todd, and Marty) were on, but that goes with the territory on soaps, and I accept it.

Love the love that OLTL is getting these days.

ETA: It's beyond me that Markko and Langston are so popular! I don't care about them. My only interest with her is in her relationship with the Cramer women.

Im so glad Marcie turned Starr down. She's finally moving on with her life and eht last thing she needs is to get involved in Manning family drama

As much as I love her, Im glad Tina wasnt on on Friday. I dont want ABC to go overboard with her and overexpose her this early

Cant stand Todd right now. Even though its been years and the relationship b/w them has changed, I find something very disturbing about a man kidnapping a woman, he once raped. He's revolting

Me too Jay. But then aren't all stories recycled? Shakespeare told them all if you think about it. It's how Carlivati tells them, and the execution that makes him better IMO. Some of Higley's topline stories weren't really all that bad, in an outline form. I always thought the execution is what floundered. Of course there were some that were just bad no matter what.

Some of Carlivati's stories don't sound so great to me. But when they play out on screen I am usually pleasantly surprised. So much so, that now when I hear spoilers that under Higley would have sent me into a tailspin, I am intrigued and curious to see how he is actually going to go there. That's why I am keeping an open mind about some of the returns, even though I am not that interested. He just has a way of telling a story. He's even managed to make the teen pregnancy story somewhat entertaining for me. Not must see, but I don't instantly ff.

And I am an RC fan who disagrees with you. Some of his stories may have roots in the past or echo some famous storylines, but what he's done so far has been as fresh and new as the genre gets these days. The re-creation of Addie didn't come from anyone or anywhere we've seen before; neither did Viki in Paris, TX with Charlie, or Rex and Gigi and Shane. YMMV, of course, but I think he's original, not coasting on the past - just honoring it while telling his own stories.

There's nothing wrong with USING HISTORY to write future storylines and if Ron wants to re-tell old stories, so be it. And there's never any "new" stories on daytime. It's HOW you tell the story that's important.
