OLTL: OMFG, Fortieth Anniversary Spoilers From TV Guide

Blast From the Past

Long before Passions came along, One Life To Live was Daytime's wildest soap......especially back in the Reagan era, when Viki(Erika Slezak) had an out of body experience during brain surgery and wound up on a space ship to heaven. To celebrate the ABC soap's 40th anniversary next month, OLTL head writer Ron Carlivati will revisit the celestial 1987 plot by having Vicki die........just momentarily of course! "This time, heaven will be a very modern high rise.......Vicki will go up the elevator encountering all sorts of dead characters along the way," said Carlivati. Among the former stars making angelic returns are Phil Carey(Asa), Mark Derwin(Ben), Stephen Markle(Mel), and Jessica Tuck(Megan). OLTL's legendary creator, Agnes Nixon, will also appear in heaven. That's not all. Carlivati will redo the famous 80's plot where Tina(Andrea Evans) survived a plunge over the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, only this time, creepy Carlo(Thom Christopher) will force Tina to watch in horror as he sends her daughter Sarah(Justis Bolding) over a waterfall. Fan favorite John Loprieno will return as Tina's ex-hubby Cord. And remember the time Clint(then Clint Richie) was knocked unconscious and time-traveled to the Wild West? Carlivati will riff on that plot too. "Bo(Robert S. Woods) and Rex(John-Paul Lavoiser) are hit by lightning and wake up in 1968............the same year OLTL hit the air," Carlivati say. The kicker: Bo has become his pop, Asa, and Rex has become the young Bo. All three homages air July 21-22, but the Bo-Rex twist will play out for several weeks, maybe with dire consequences. Say Carlivati: "If they can't find their way back to the future, Rex will be drafted and sent to Vietnam."

It's interesting that Carlivati seems to have a huge fondness for the mid 80s of OLTL (when he started on the show I think) and I'm fine with that as long as he continues to combine it with the Agnes Nixon/Michael Malone element of social storylines and a mix of social classes--not the "Rich and the Rich and the White and the White' as Erika Slezak complained OLTL became under Rauch

I just read on TV Guide site that Jessica Tuck had to bow out because of scheduling conflict, Megan was suppose to be Viki's guide into Heaven so instead of it being Megan, they are bringing back Erin Torpey, who is going to be playing Megan Victoria, Viki's grand-daughter.

^I don't understand the reasoning behind that. So the original Jessica's dead daughter (who in real time is suppose to be like 10) is going to be played by the original Jessica, while the recast Jessica is still on the show?

WHOA!

WHAT?!

Hold on.

Erin Torpey is playing Jessica's deceased daughter?

This is either totally ridiculous and confusing... or frakking brilliant. And I really can't decide.

That is [!@#$%^&*] brilliant. It's not the first time the "dead child shown grown in Heaven" thing has been done. And it's a beautiful love letter to ES, who loves Erin T. like a daughter.

It's also a neat bit of symmetry - Megan's ghost came back to take Megan Victoria when Erin was in the role, and the daughter Erin's Jessica lost grew into her image.

OLTL has ALWAYS been awesome at this and I'm sure it will be better under RC's pen. This sounds awesome and for sure it will be awesome to watch! Can't wait. I'm glad the show is carrying its momentum too and not just planning it in "batches" as most shows do.

This sounds like a real celebration... Can't wait!

However I wish they paid some tribute to early OLTL, Larry, Karen, Wanda, Jenny and Carla to name a few.

It would be fun if Bo (Asa) and Rex (Bo) visited Llanview and came across young Viki (played by Jessica), her sister Meredith (Natalie), their father Victor (Clint), Joe (Todd) and Larry (Jared).

Well you might get your wish because it was posted on another site (not yet confirmed) that other current actors will also be playing dual roles in the 40th celebration.

Can we just trade the sensational Erin Torpey for the erratic Bree WilliamsON, PLEASE? Watching Torpey and Slezak share scenes, is going to make me dislike the current Jessica's work even more.

I agree, JP.

We haven't seen Torpey act in... what? six or seven years?

It might surprise a lot of us to see her vs. Bree.

I love Erin, and she will always be toddler through late teenager Jessica.

But Bree is the adult Jessica. They sold me. I bought the ticket. I'm there.

I love Bree but I agree. Watching Erin in scenes with ES again will make me miss her as Jessica even more than I already do.

Well, I hope it included a return fare, because after Torpey hits the screen, you'll be wanting her back permanently. :D

We could just bring back Torpey as Jessica, reveal Bree is Natalie (I buy Erin and Bree as twins!) and get Archer out of the Buch house?

Are we in agreement now?
