Thanks. Sometimes I forget early Dynasty had (fairly) complex character work. Linda Evans does so well at playing that fragility in Krystal without being too weak.

Harford does a lot with her mute role.

Early Krystle is the best, when she's trying to come to terms with her strange new world. When she and Blake are cooing at each other non-stop and the servants love her as if she was a daughter, it's just not interesting.

I was actually trying to find one of Alexis' scenes with Mrs. Gunnerston. In one of them, it's implied she might have slept with Mr. G. In the other, Alexis reveals she paid for Gunnerson's son's hospitalization (done as an attempt to get Hilda to spy on Krystle).

This is one of my favorite early Krystle scenes. I appreciate that it took a lot out of her, but I liked that Krystle put Joseph in his place.

"You've been very cooperative, Joseph. You're a good worker. I believe I'll speak with Mr. Carrington about increasing your salary."

Translation: Yeah, that's right, you creep. Remember who signs the damn checks.

Thanks. What stands out most is when Krystle walks away - they don't just let the moment stand as some badass girl power, which is what you'd often get (and today with a tedious "needle drop"). You can see how tortured Krystle is by the world she now has to live in.

That Dynasty probably wouldn't have lasted more than a year or two, but you do wonder what might have been.

They really made such a mess with Joseph as time passed.

I think it would've lasted longer than that, but the initial casting was terrible (especially for the Blaisdel family) and it would've required a level of writing that the Shapiros simply weren't capable of producing.

Season 1 was a slow start but the main reason to watch it is that it builds the foundation of the character relationships. Season 2 was the only season that worked for me from a writing and acting standpoint. It's too bad that the quality of season 2 could not be maintained for the rest of the series.

ABC soap fans that were spoiled by the best of Agnes Nixon probably knew they couldn't hold Dynasty writers to the same standard.

I agree.

True.  Even if you left out the daytime soaps, however, Richard and Esther Shapiro's best writing in primetime never matched the high quality that you might have found in other TV movies and series from that day.

The CW aired a documentary about the television series Dynasty last night.

The documentary is available on the CW app. You will need to download the CW app to watch the documentary.

    • Yes, it was. Dinah had started to soften after Henry's heart attack in March. After Paige Turco took over the role, the attitude is turned way, way down. The thing about Vanessa was, she could be very territorial. If Dinah had gone to Lillian (who had befriended Dinah before she knew Vanessa was her mother), that would've stung a bit, but Van probably would've understood. But Dinah getting advice from Ross' new girlfriend would not have sat well with her, the same way Van later bristles anytime Nadine tries to stake some kind of role in Bill's life. @DeeVee  I know it's been brought up before, but I hadn't really connected Long breaking up Ross/Van to the fact that she'd neither created that backstory or been responsible for giving them a love child.  I wonder what she would've done had she been there when Jordan left, and had to break Billy/Van up.
    • Yes it was The Young and the Restless.
    • I would love for Rick and Amber to come back and Amber to be involved with Deke somehow

The show does look great though!
    • Well, she just said "ladies" on the show but she didn't specify they were fellow actresses. It could have been some of the women behind the scenes of the show. There was a lot in the interview that wasn't clear to me.
    • Now would’ve been a great time to get the next A plot going, versus Bill and Katie and Steffy and Liam rehashing the same BS about Luna we have been hearing for weeks.
    • I feel it could benefit from a focus on one of their three A stories or a solid B plot. But right before the turnover from Guza to Thomson, outside of all things Dani...there's nothing too A story-ish going on. Still entertaining for me, but it's noticeable that there is not a main story with other B/C stories going on. It's just...a bunch of stories going on.    I do hope the build to Winterfest and us actually seeing it THIS month will get things moving again.    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
    • GET THAT HEFFA, NOSY NURSE!!!   I'm sorry to see Smitty and June coming to a middle ground. It seem like that tension would be between them for at least one more story arc. A writing change?   I'm sorry but I love the teen unit of Ty, Samantha, and Jessica (and Rocco, Danny, Charlotte over on GH which is what today is reminding me of). I'm a sucker for soap teens. lol.
    • I really hope Laura doesn’t get reelected. She doesn’t deserve it. Imagine her campaign staff, freaking out at the Metro Court as election results come in while she’s hanging out with Sonny.
    • Thanks for that. It was great to see her in an interview. She's very likable. Although it was somewhat confusing. What new soap is she talking about going on audition for in 1973. Was it The Young and the Restless? Is it just me or did they never even say the name of this soap opera? Days wasn't new in 1973 and there was no "Jack" with three daughters on The Young and the Restless. What soap are they talking about? The editing around that part was weird and choppy. I felt like there was a chunk missing or something. And I'm not sure why she was saying she got colorectal cancer from HPV and said it's because she never got the HPV vaccine but then said she's never had anal sex. I'm not a doctor but that didn't seem to make any medical sense. I don't know. Maybe I'm tired. It just seemed like some of this interview didn't make sense.
    • If it helps any, the last script cover from the Elman papers that I have is from episode #3,736 airdate November 15, 1977. Writers are the Hollands with Frank Salisbury.
