Characters who never made it onscreen

The post about Michael Malone reminded me about an interview he did about his plans for the show.

He mentioned that Alexander's daughter Zoe would arrive in Bay City.

That never came to pass as he left the show before she was brought on.

What other characters do you recall being mentioned, either in interviews or onscreen ,that seemed certain to be part of the show .but for varios reasons ,never turned up onscreen?

In addition to Zoe,I recall Julie on DOOL talking about her nephew (never before mentioned)Spencer Olsen. There was a change of writers(I think) nd Julie was gone along with any talk of Spencer.

Also,Pat Falken Smith talked of Roman's younger brother Marcus Brady, who would become involved with Melissa Anderson. She left the show and Bo became the Brady brother.

Can any other posters with good memories add to this list?

Back in 1999 before she was canned, McTavish had planned on introducing Janet's long-lost daughter. Agnes took over and squashed those plans. Also on AMC, there were plans to introduce Greg Nelson's sisters in the early 80s, Diana and Janet, but they never materialized.

You're thinking of Juanita Ramsey.

She was one of Phoebe's snobby friends and belonged to Phoebe's club "The Daughters of Fine Lineage". I believe she was shown a few times. Those DOFL meetings at Phoebe's house were hilarious! Other members included Enid Nelson and Marion Colby.

Frank Dicopolous originally signed on to GL to play a character named Todd Bauer-brother to Lacey and Johnny.

By the time he aired he was now Frank Cooper.

That new branch of the Bauer family was dropped.

Also, there were originally going to be several DiMera siblings. One that was named was Vanessa.I think it was mentioned she would be involved with Mike Horton.

When Santa Barbara debuted,I remember seeing a family tree that listed other members of the Andrade family apart from Santana and Danny.I also recall a conversation between the Andrade parents about their other children.

One character that stayed offscreen for over twenty years was Paul's brother Todd on Y&R.He was mentioned from time to time but didn't turn up till a few years ago played by Corbin Bernson.

I guess Kristina Hughes could be included on ATWT.She is the daughter of Don and Mary and was born in 1986,but never turned up in Oakdale to see her grandmother or other family members.

IIRC, Malone and Griffith originally planned to introduce some other "Antonio Vega" in 1991 or 1992, and the casting notice was in the mags, but he never was cast at the time. I think he was a cop too.

I remember in SOD in 1986/87, right around the writer's strike, they announced that Mariann Aalda was joining GL as Dr. Grace Battles, but that never happened. Oddly enough, years later, they had a recurring character named Jeffrey Battles who mentioned his sister, Grace, who worked at the hospital, but she was still never shown.

I think that around 95/96, after Brian Gaskill began playing teenager Bobby Warner on AMC, there was talk of bringing on his younger brother Michael, whom everyone kept referring to as "Mickey." That never happened. Also at AMC, they introduced a lot of Ceara's sisters at her wedding to Jeremy in 1992. I'm sure there were plans to bring at least one of them on full time, but when Genie was fired, those plans were obviously kiboshed. Wasn't there a rumor last year that Y&R was planning on bringing on Jennifer Foster, Jill's niece (Snapper & Chris's daughter)?

You have a fantastic memory! I remember not being excited at all about Mickey coming on. But I was looking forward to Janet's daughter. That was during the long Dillon drought and I was so excited they would be getting a story. Do you remember what her name was supposed to be? It was Rena or Rita or Rain or something.

(Don't know if this really counts but) Richard Culliton planned to have Amanda Dillon come back during his tenure and from the auditions script she was clearly going to be paired with Bianca!

Kit Fisher/Christine Montgomery (Paige Rowland) was originally supposed to be Ryan's sister Kat Lavery.

Still thinking....

It's so funny. I've been racking my brain for the past couple of days trying to remember the name McT had planned for Janet's daughter (I know...get a life!! LOL). It finally came to me. Her name was supposed to be Risa Jones.

Not sure why "Mickey" never materialized. I know the show was in talks with Taylor Miller around this time to bring back Nina on a recurring basis, to accommodate Miller's life (kind of the same deal Kate Collins recently worked out). She did make a few appearances in '96 or '97. It was during the time Brooke was dating Pierce #2 (the one just before Maxwell Caulfield), because I remember Nina counselling Brooke on that relationship. She never appeared again, and the whole Mickey thing was dropped.

    • It actually felt like TM-G was a bit softer in her scenes with nu-Ted that kind of matched his meeker energy as Ted on Friday. I was very curious how she’d play off him and now I have my answer.
    • My thoughts exactly! Fantastic find @DRW50!
    • That was interesting; thanks. Courtney looks tired and/or bored AF, LOL!
    • 5-12   Lord have mercy.   I'm not sure how I feel about it. Perhaps what I said last week or the week before last. If the highlight of a soap is what people are wearing and not the writing, that's not a good thing. And that was how I was feeling watching this. There was not anyone that I was interested in seeing in the episode outside of Daniel and Sally tbh. Because Daniel continues to be the only thing that humanizes Phyllis for me.    I could care less for the Billy/Sally scenes where he's woe is me. I could care less about Kyle/Claire since the writers took all the drama right out of the pairing. Humanized or not, I could care less for Giggly Heffa.    I barely care for Teriah. But for me, it's nice to see something going on with them. Though it seems so horribly contrived.    I liked the costume designer appears to be trying to find individual styles for some of the characters. For me, Tessa's with the boots stood out given her indie musician history. It seems like Claire's style is coming into its own with block colors. I like Kyle's wardrobe is loosening up somewhat. I even loved the striped dress that Phyllis had on.    But again...where is the writing?
    • It was reported that Jane Wyman absence in the final season was due to health (it's documented that Jane was diabetic) but I believe her episodes being cut was a budget mode move. Similar move Dallas pulled in 1990, it was reported that Barbara Bel Geddes retired due to health (it's documented that Barbara had a heart condition) but I say salary dump. Jane Wyman only acted once after Falcon Crest, a 1993 episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, but she lived another 14 years after that. Barbara Bel Geddes did not act again after her last episode of Dallas in 1990 but she lived another 15 years after that. The trifecta of suck at Lorimar was Les Moonves, Leonard Katzman, and Michael Filerman. It was a pattern across all three CBS primetime soaps in the off the rails plus budget mode era to salary dump the long-time female cast members and bring on sweet young things hired on the cheap.
    • To be fair, more than half of them are dead now.
    • Kat may be a privileged elitist but that's not entirely true.  Kat first met Eva when Eva was snooping at Nicole's desk, so Kat's first impression of Eva wasn't very good.  Plus, Kat's instinct to not trust Eva was 100% right.  Kat's attitude toward Eva had nothing to do with Eva not "bowing" down to Kat, and her feelings toward her half-sister is very justified......minus the making fun of Eva's clothes of course.
    • They said that this has metastasized to his bones, but the type of "aggressive" prostate cancer he has is actually very common and is treatable, or at least manageable. So the headline is misleading.   Apparently this type of cancer is hormonal which makes it somewhat treatable? But still, of course, sad.  Thinking of him and his loved ones.
    • Kat is a spoiled brat princess and Silk Press Sheila called her out on it.  Silk Press Sheila is someone not to mess with. I was actually scared for Kat when she was alone with Silk Press Sheila and recording their conversation.
    • It is funny that Stephanie and Philip still hide/blush/get embarrassed at the sight of each other.  Meanwhile, Kate's pouring coffee for Rafe at the pub as if they're only casual acquaintances.  Although, if Kate blushed every time she saw one of her former lovers, she'd be permanently red.
