I think they were dull and boring together based on who had their hands all over their characters (LML)...maybe with the new change, they will either write things differently....I hope so because I was getting tired of Michael and Lauren being the centerpieces for Gloria's story

I don't want to make this thread a Davetta thread but I remember how strong and firm she was in scenes with Michael during the storyline where the dude Daniel knew came back to blackmail him...she would have done the same I think if she were handling the poor porn addiction storyline and the dealings with Amber....she would have gone Mini Dru on Amber

I liked Daveeta like most everyone else but I simply don't see how she would have made LML's writing work, it was really that hopeless. I think had she stayed she really would have been great with Cane. Also, she was a womanly kind of actress, not a stick insect like CK who makes the whole 'Lily is fat' thing unbearable.

I LOVED the Genoa City crime rate thing, that was hilarious...and it makes me think that it really was Jeanne Cooper who was the unnamed actor who slammed LML...has anyone else noticed that Jeanne's been LOADED with diamonds lately? Seems to me the wardrobe department went to Kenny Lane and dropped a few grand on some major faux baubles for Ms Cooper. Good to see.

I think the Alistair/John Abbott thing is going to be good, just my gut reaction.

I agree about Lauren and Michael, they are SO dull together and that fight was just pathetic. Time to hook Lauren up with Paul!

Any other actress could play Lily with conviction. I did like Khalil until near the end of her first run, where she became extremely overexposed and whiny. Other than that, I thought she did fantastic work opposite Rikaart, Rowell, St. John, Bryton and Grazadei, (sp?) her first go around. She still has her moments though, but is pretty damned across the boards. IMO Devetta was alright in the role. I know that's an unpopular, opinion, but I never truly bought into the Devetta Sherwood hype. I also thought her chemistry with Grazadei (sp?) was nothing spectacular. All that "baby, baby" shtick got old quick. As for DS having better chemistry with Goddard, who knows? Not all actors are compatible together, no matter how good they are (Ie. MTS & VI). IMO DS was fortunate enough to at least get some good material under that regime.

I thought it was suposed to come off as fake. So i loved it. It isnt like Gloria & Will are smart enough to figure it out

and i agree

i do want her to have her own storyline, but i love her and michael. they are sweet and romantic and like a real relationship. yes it is boring, but i dont have an issue with that. i just hate how it is never Lauren. It is always Michael&Lauren.

I would love for Lauren to get in the middle of this abbots vs Gloria [!@#$%^&*]. Lauren & John were great friends.

i agree. pre-LML they were not intersting and complex, but they were not painfuly borring either.

I am hopeful that we will get some Michael and Lauren in , at the very least, their own storyline, soon. I was so happy to even see them today.

CK is hot and cold for me. Just when I think she is coming into her won as a performer, she seems to slip backwards and bore me a little. Maybe she will grow up in this storyline with DG.

As for Davetta, I am not sure it would have worked chemistry wise, but we will never know. I also wonder if, since Davetta was darker than CK, they would have gone there. It would have been great and somewhat of a statement to have an obviously interracial couple together. I always wondered why, after a while, Lily and Daniel stopped being affectionate in their scenes together. They became like really "good friends" to me. I think the show feels more comfortable with CK as Lily because they can pair her with either men of all shades of the rainbow and still get credit for a "daring" pairing.

But the writers never discussed the fact that they were different races so there would be nothing daring about it. When Victoria was with Neil for that brief moment in Y&R history, that controversy never came up. It's as if the writers have to be PC when talking about race but everything else is completely acceptable (abortion, rape, murder, incest, adultery, greed, theft, and on and on).

There's clearly nothing wrong with accepting everyone for being equal; but considering this country's history, I still find it hard to believe that interracial relationships aren't more controversial.

I, too, found it odd when Christel returned and she and Daniel were never affectionate. It was always off screen like we were back in the 50s. But isn't Christel from a Muslim background? That would make a difference with her abilities to fully deliver certain scenes.

Race was nhever an issue between danny & lily, or the parents or familys for that matter (that i can think of anyways, when i think back to them starting i was so distracted by the sexual tension between daniel and nick). It was done well and i was glad it was not an issue TBH.

Not to say that someone down the line couldnt have had an issue somewhere, but i am glad they are done.

What we don't know is what kind of mail they are getting on any interracial pairing. In the past the show has tried such pairings; Mamie and John, Olivia and Brad, Neil and Victoria. But none of them ever resulted in a longtime coupling. I seem to remember that the mail that Neil and Victoria got was not all that positive. I can't speak to the other pairings. But the show has a history of casting more AA's that are lighter-skinned than not. I don't, for a moment, believe they would have purusued this relationship with Cane and Lily with Davetta in the role of Lily. I would love to have been wrong. There have been rumors that some fans did not like Davetta and Michael because it was obviously an interracial marriage. Honestly, when I see CK and DG in a scene, it never crosses my mind that it one is white and one is bi-racial. But while the show does not promote it as a daring storyline, they do get "credit" by having such a couple. And with CK winning the NAACP award, it brings the show some sort of credit as serving audiences of color. Lily and Cane are going down well because they don't "look" offensive to some. I wish it were not true but I truly believe that it is.

I don't hate Cane and Lily because of the "controversial" aspects of the storyline. I hate them because they are dull and boring. You have Daniel Goddard who can't really act, and you have Christel who over acts every piece of script she sees.....

Not a good combination....

I think Daniel Goddard can act. And I like Cane. In fact, I am really enjoying this whole fashionista/darker side of fashion SL a lot, thanks to Chloe and Cane in particular (and Jill when she's allowed to participate). And I am no CK fan by any stretch, will always see Davetta's Lily as Dru's true successor but if we are being fair, Christel really is not the worst actor on Y&R. C'mon! Vail Bloom? Tammin Sursoks? Adrienne Frantz? Thad "Steve Burton Iz Mah Idol" Luckinbill? The chick who plays Sabrina?

JP, it's funny you mention Cane/Lauren. DG has a really strong rapport with practically every older female he has a scene with -- Jess Walton, Jeanne Cooper, MTS. He and JW in particular.

    • I really enjoyed today's show. Today was the most I ever liked Martin. It was very sweet how he invited Eva to get to know his family. He has good chemistry with her (along with Kat) and I liked how she got to know and started to bond with his family including Samantha who was understandably standoffish with her at first. I thought her styling Samantha with different looks at the end was cute. Martin's family is her family now too and I liked how he made that clear to everyone at pizza night at his home. The twins have a new auntie.

I think it will be interesting to watch Martin/Eva bond along with her bonding with the rest of the family. And seeing how others including Nicole and especially Kat react to that. I thought for a moment that Kat might actually show up at pizza night but she didn't. I also enjoyed Eva trying with Kat. They do have chemistry together and they are cute, lol. I do think they could end up being twins, but even if they aren't I still enjoy them together. Whether it's sparring or Eva trying or whatever.
    • Hahaha. It was worth a try. Alas.
    • There were lots of spoiler pics for week of May 5-9 of Devon/Lily/Holden/Damian/Amy/Nate/Audra. I posted them on the spoiler thread that week because they all looked so pretty. I was hopeful.  Sorry to read in the recaps that it was mostly discussion of Dumas!
    • Random Hump Day Reactions Despite my better judgment about commenting on appearances—what is going on with Philip’s skin? He looks distractingly sunburned. Did the makeup team forget to use foundation? Or powder? Or that they’re broadcasting in high definition? Meanwhile, Kristen looked like the saddest Alice in Wonderland. The dirndl was cute, but everyone in that mansion could desperately use a pop of primary color—and a reason to smile. It’s one thing for Belle to be blinded by love for EJ. It’s another for her to hear him admit to kidnapping Rachel and treat it like a punchline. There's zero urgency from anyone about getting Rachel or Kat back to Salem. Kristen and Cat seem to forget their long-lost mothers are still being held elsewhere against their will. At least when Doc, Kayla, and Kate went missing, people cared. Paulina even talked to that urn! (Still waiting to find out who was in the urn, by the way…) Raise your hand if you believe Rachel innocently brought up Tate’s baby. If your hand is up, do not click on any suspicious email links today. You’re vulnerable. And finally, deep breaths: Jamey—or someone he edits—named the miracle drug Versavix. Fun fact: real drug names are developed by branding teams after the research is done. Versavix sounds like the draft name someone scribbled during a Red Bull crash and forgot to replace. This isn’t even a good fake drug name. It’s like they forgot that the same show once gave us a literal ‘love potion’ that made Sami fall for Austin. Versavix makes me nostalgic for the days of ‘L-dopa’ and Stefano’s mind control chips, at least they didn’t sound like a discontinued allergy medication. (crud, another day, another broken promise to stop complaining about this).
    • Brandon said that a couple of months ago, and MVJ replied in agreement.  I'm intrigued.
    • So many of the problems stem from there being one main family. As a result, Vernon and Anita don't have contemporaries to interact with which leaves them primarily as talk-to's. If and when they bring on her bandmates, it would benefit them to establish at least one as a main character with a family. If they ever brought on Jacob's mom, she could be another person that Anita could regularly interact with.
    • And in the Oct. 25, 1985, episode, a pre-fame Tony Shalhoub.
