March 7, 200817 yr Member I'm looking forward to next week's ratings, when America has had an opportunity to sample a full week of the "new" GL. I think the ratings will go up because of a very good week with Jonathan/Lizzie/Bill, Reva/Josh/Cassie, Alan/Beth/Rick, and even Mel was on three times this week! Very emotional well-acted show today which gives the viewers a real treat. GL is #1 in the 12-17 age group this week and this is where the advertisers crave for as this age group grows older into the 18-49 demographic. GL is somehow building the new generation of viewers. March 7, 200817 yr Member No offense, but let's be logical here we know once Y&R slips in the ratings it impacts the entire line-up every time. People who watches GL don't give up that easily where they come and go over the years. I love the new format and opening; today's episode was exhilarating with Jonathan leaving town with Reva & Lizzie in buckets of tears, very emotional, well-acted show. I'm sorry, but I don't see why Y&R's ratings have to be the saving grace of every other CBS soap. I understand what you're saying to a certain extent don't get me wrong. But, in my opinion, viewers have given up.

But, in my opinion, viewers have given up. Think about it...in most markets across the country Y&R airs after the popular Price Is Right or the noon newscast as most Americans are on their lunch break this is where people sample other promotion during Y&R's commercial break. With high viewership during Y&R it provides a lead-in to the shows afterwards such as B&B and ATWT. If Y&R is pre-empted or people tuning out on a badly written episode, B&B, ATWT, and GL will go down majority of the time. Considering GL airs mostly in the 9am and 10am time slot in bigger markets with a weak lead-in of CBS Early Show and most people are working during that time. Also competing with the popular NBC Today show that runs until 11am eastern time. Edited March 7, 200817 yr by Rocket Man
March 7, 200817 yr Member Ouch. GL's ratings did nothing after all that promotion. I guess people have just given up. This is probably the most unreal quote I have ever seen on here. Typical trash the show banter. It will take a while to see if the new format increases or decreases ratings. I do not believe there will be a big increase or decrease, I happen to think that GL will coast along as they have. What I would love to see is a huge increase and see what the naysayers say, but I don't think that will happen. It is just not the time for any soap to make a huge impact. People bitch about how bad GL is, but even when it was great it was still in the same place in the ratings as it is now. if all soaps were increasing their ratinsg like crazy, I would believe that the shape of the show is impacting viewers. But that is not a valid point, at least not yet and I find it quite comical that people are just not blaming the ratings on the new look LOL Kit Kat anyone? I only watch one soap, and that is GL...so I do not typically buy into the if one drops they all drop, but I do see it having merit.
March 7, 200817 yr Member GL is somehow building the new generation of viewers. Well, ain't THAT a scary thought.
March 7, 200817 yr Member Well, ain't THAT a scary thought. It is. But the 12-17 changes every week. ATWT was at #2 at one point...But I think I got it wrong...the poster was referring to the new look.
March 7, 200817 yr Member **I'm taking a wager that Frons will be gone by June 08** From your lips to TIIC at ABC! Well it looks like AMC got the deserved ratings for that horrific pole dancing. Oopsie!
March 7, 200817 yr Member The Bell soaps: Much of the same...Great Television that utilizes a multi generational cast and gets the best ratings. I'd say they're consistent, but not necessarily compelling. Brooke/Ridge/Taylor is officially a worn out, tired mess. I love the new format and opening; today's episode was exhilarating with Jonathan leaving town with Reva & Lizzie in buckets of tears, very emotional, well-acted show. I liked it too, but it seems that every episode I've seen lately revolves around them. It's an umbrella story that stampedes everything around it. The new sets have handicapped the filming process, because the camera operators choose weird locations and jerky movements to avoid each other. Without a 4th wall to escape into, they've had to become more flexible than the liquid terminator.
March 7, 200817 yr Member From your lips to TIIC at ABC! Well it looks like AMC got the deserved ratings for that horrific pole dancing. Oopsie! You mean you didnt like Ryan with his shirt unbutton and on that pole??
March 7, 200817 yr Member Whether he's on a pole, at the office, or in his car, I have only one thing to say: PUT SOME DAMN CLOTHES ON, YOU EXHIBITIONIST FREAK.
March 7, 200817 yr Member I won't comment on your post. It makes me so angry though. Please do. I have no problem if you disagree although I know you are going to say it's Days spin and all that, which is fine. I've come to accept it and I don't care anymore. Just my feeling and opinion on the situation.
March 7, 200817 yr Member I'm not shocked by DAYS inconsistent ratings. The show is okay, however *very* boring lately, IMO. It seems to suffer from lack of a long-term story plan, and it shows. I even found the plane crash to be boring. So I've just been catching the clips on youtube the past week to keep up, but still nothing to where I race to the tv(as per usual) at 2pm. However, I am hooked on ATWT so congrats to them for holding steady.
March 7, 200817 yr Member Funny how ATWT treats Nuke like crap and won't show them like a real couple..But i'm sure they love all the publicity they are getting from not showing them kiss, it even hit CNN..Maybe that was their plan all along..
March 7, 200817 yr Member Well I think that is approaching within the next couple of months - you think she'll be gone that soon? By the way what it so great about Rebecca Buddig that makes her pilot worthy I mean it is not like she is a new entity. Won't this be her 3rd pilot season? It actually takes ALOT of years for a lot of people to lan pilots that picked up and make it to air. over 200 pilots are made a year and only a handful get picked up. jennifer Aniston did soemthing like ten pilots, 1 hit the air and filed, and other other became friends. it is all a matter of luck.
March 7, 200817 yr Member Exactly. It doesn't get rewarded for weeks where it should and the problem with that is TPTB may read this the wrong way and make stupid decisions based on the screwed up way the ratings are. I also doubt this has anything to do with Higley. Her name isn't in the credits so I doubt most people outside of communities like SON even know about her writing. It's just the screwed up way ratings are. It's undeserved but it was bound to happen after the burst of last week I guess. It's the way ratings work now sadly. I never expected Days to crash like this. I was expecting maybe a 2.2 or 2.3. Now, they are just back to where they were going into sweeps, just like GH usually does with their sweeps. The one thing in Days' favor is they are still doing ok. They are still much better then a few months ago in HH and they are slowly gaining total viewers. It's like they gain a chunk and lose a chunk but they keep improving very slowly and that is what has to happen. Just the way Days lost ratings is how they have to gain it. I still think Days needs to stay the course because it's consistency that will bring fans back and if they have stuff like this going in summer it will have a bigger ratings impact. I know the show doesn't have time for gradual improvement but they can use the argument that they got to a 2.4 during sweeps and can try to prove to NBC that with more time they can get things going. They made a statement at least. As for the other soaps, it's ugly for everyone. Some of those dailies...oy. It seems like everyone tuned out. I don't understand the high numbers for ATWT but I don't understand the low numbers for OLTL either. The ratings are about nothing but luck. It's not even based on merit or quality anymore and it keeps getting worse. Now, Days was ok this week but mostly set up. Watch them go up for this week because none of us expect it: lol: GREAT POST! all is sooo true. The Bell soaps: Much of the same...Great Television that utilizes a multi generational cast and gets the best ratings. P&G: ATWT benefits from the Bell shows...I think. GL is a disaster and the 'new look' is only going to sink the show further. DAYS: It's a roller coaster, maybe the numbers will be up next week. Who knows with DAYS, it's so inconsistent. ABC Daytime: Suck it Frons! Note to Bob Iger and Anne Sweeney: TIME TO SWING THE AX! I couldnt agree more. Esp about the P&G soaps getting the bell soaps lead in. i think atwt does better because it has the lead in, and gl does worse because its lead in is atwt and because of its whack timeslot.
