DAYS: Former writer lands major writing award

Well, I'm going out on a limb here.

In today's MediaBistro (which is like a really big deal in the publishing industry) they

featured the seasons big award winners, including the Nobel Prize for Doris Lessing

and the Man Booker Prize for Ann Enright.

Well along with those heavyweights, they have a former writer from "Days" whose name is

not allowed on these boards. You all know Vola Voof.

Scroll down to her award win in Sweden.

I know people are prudes and people are petty, but I just don't get it.

The soap industry is dying and they're letting award winning authors like this get away

because they're eccentric and cause publicity?????

I just find that to be the most mind-boggling stupidity.

I watch the shows day in and day out, and I don't see the level of passion or bodacious-ness

that this woman had anywhere on the soaps.

Now back in the day, they use to have that urgency. People talked about them!

I just find myself miffed at the whole OVER-REACTION to this award winning and obviously

rising author by the soap industry. Talent is talent.

All I know is that during her reading at the Schomburg Center last month, some soap fans asked

her questions from the audience and she said that she's offered to write "for free" for all the soaps.

She even wrote a bible for "Guiding Light".

She said that she nags Brian Frons daily and nags Barbara Bloom and nobody will give her a job

unless it's "uncredited" as a Ghost Writer.

Supposedly the "sponsors" don't like her past, but Vola said certain writers are jealous of all the media

attention she gets and that they only have two agents for soap writers because they pretty much pass

the same people around like "musical chairs", and she said neither one of those agents would take her

because the "star writer" for each agent threatened to walk if they took on Vola.

She has a bunch of books coming out though and she wrote a movie for LIFETIME CHANNEL that she's waiting

for them to actually film.

I was pissed they won't use her though. She's popular with black soap fans I know that much.

To me, just being "BANNED" makes her cool as hell!

I mean heck, that's the kind of writers that go on to become legends.

Everything she does, there's a commotion around it.

To me, that's a sign that she's got something.

Why does the press like to write about her so much?

No. I'm actually completely dense. These posters are all unique and different!

It is way too early in the morning for this [!@#$%^&*]. Assuming you actually do have questions about the woman, ask Kenny or one of the mods, nobody else. This place has the security of a wet paper bag, it always did.

Kennylicious,

If I'm not mistaken, this board allows everyone here to post ANONYMOUSLY.

So if you're implying that I'm Vola--then why would that be anybody's business if I was?

Brad Bell visits this board and interacts here, is he to be dragged out and shitted on whenever

people like you turn white as a sheet because you suspect you're having a chat with Lucy?

How very childish.

This is the United States....EVERYONE....has a right to post here anonymously.

If people would worry about bringing talented people to these dying soaps and stop

KNIT-PICKING over meaningless nonsense that's not even important, maybe we could

get somewhere in this industry.

The fact is very talented passionate people are being turned away by TPTB and it

kind of explains the sorry state of the soaps.

I could care less what Vola Voof posts on an internet board, especially since everybody in town

does it but get to enjoy their anonymous status, what I want is to see her on one of these writing teams.

Where she obviously belongs.

ChangedBySon - YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT with what you posted ^^^. Why should it matter where "VV" has posted. For me, after reading her interview posted above - esp the portion in red - (thanks, Slyph), I wonder why she's not writing in daytime any longer.

This is a woman who is obviously PASSIONATE about what she does. She is a proven GREAT writer. She has WONDERFUL, THOUGHT-PROVOKING ideas. What is wrong with TPTB?!?!?

Personally, I wouldn't give a crap if a name like hers appeared after the credits of my GL. Knowing who she is now, I'd probably jump for joy, but that's another story. It doesn't matter to me if the person writing the show is black, white, purple or orange. What matters to me is a good story - well written and well-thought out. If the person with the pen is such a writer, then who am I to worry about their nationality, skin color, sexual orientation or sex....

Look who GLs got now - a cute white man in the head writer's seat. And "writer" is a term I would use very very very loosely to describe DK. He's horrible. He doesn't deserve to be associated in the same FIELD as VV.

How can we get her for GL?

    • I found it to be a rather odd way to deal with a character departing for parts unknown.
    • Today reminded me as to why I’m a little disappointed in the name that the new Pope chose

Luckily, EJ and Johnny, and pretty much every other character saved today’s episode.  I didn’t expect Javi to be the one to save Sarah though, and I don’t mind it at all, because if it means that Javi is finally going to get his own identity/character, away from his douchy bf, I’m all for it. Javi’s scenes would’ve been a lot better had it not been for him. EJ and Johnny were the best part of today. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats and I’m so looking forward to seeing them play out. And now that EJ knows that Johnny is going to work for Xander, that opens up another dynamic to their storyline and to the Kiriakis family storylines as well. Tying them all together could be really good. There are so many story possibilities that can come out of this. And I thought Carson Boatman did a pretty good job again too.  I also liked that Johnny was there to comfort Chanel after everything that happened with Sarah. They’re so good together. But I do have mixed feelings about Chanel possibly forgiving Johnny so quickly. Hopefully, the question that she asked him at the end of today leads to more conflict for the two of them.  And yeah, still no changes in Alex’s character lol
    • Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to grab the episode. I had a quick review of your rip because I was curious why it was 700MB and 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the episode is 3169 (opening credits at 5 minutes and again at 15 minutes). The full HD version of ep.3170 is on YouTube channel:

    • That's a name I haven't heard in a minute. Thanks!
    • Well, since I'm still up unexpected past my growing-into-it bedtime. lol.   I finally got to rewatch Monday's. I even rewatched Friday's to take it all in. Now that we got the reveal and hit the climax of the SilkPress Sheila storyline, now we get to watch the aftermath and/or turns that come with its climax. So far, so good. Friday left us with three cliffhangers. And what I found surprising was how I felt about them over a rewatch.    I know some of you all felt a way about the dialogue during Kat vs Eva. I remember liking it more the first time around and it was nice for them to have these scenes to establish more of a frenemy vibe for them going forward. That still held up. But I found myself agreeing with you all about that dialogue. lol. Still, it was nice to have both of their POVs.   Second up was Silk Press Sheila vs the Duprees. And I was happy to get a brief spat with Dani in there. But the rest standouts for me was Anita and Martin. Haters can hate and given the tail end of the episode, I will agree to a fault, but Brandon has impressed and he was on fire on Monday and had great subtle work on Friday. And that subtle work made it all the better. Like I believe I said when I was watching...BC has a much better grip on his character and seems to be realizing what his tics are so has started to be able to know when to turn it up and when to dial it down. And for the most part (emphasis on most), he got that. Meanwhile, TT was giving fierceness, and I was here for every minute of it. Her reading SilkPress. Her being quip about it. Her 'BE STILL.' Ooooo she had a chokehold on me as Anita gave what I was expecting her to SilkPress. WORTH THE WAIT. I also loved Vernon's CHOOSE SILENCE. I wonder though if SilkPress will figure out Martin's condition from her observing Anita and Vernon with him.   And speaking of worth it...Oooo YES Nicole vs Ted was worth totally worth it. Oooooo I knew DD would nail it, and it was all so well done. The fight between the part of Nicole who is a therapist vs Nicole as a woman who wants to express how she feels. And being so angry. And how there would be moments when it would shoot out of her. And how she would restrain herself. But how she felt she should not be restrain. Just the levels of processing and layers. And DD played it all so well. I do wish Maurice gave just a little bit more, but overall, I thought he did a good job even if it was just Ted coming across as a deadbeat and not at all redeemable. And Kat being there for her mother was so beautiful.   Minority, but I love the montage though yes, it did run a little long. Given how the Duprees like to bond (and also as I mentioned from my own very recent family experiences), it did not seem out of place to me.     That said...let's see how the aftermath worked in today's episode. Overall. Cuz RC can be hit or miss.
    • I wonder whose brilliant (

) idea it was to do an almost complete rip-off of the "who killed Tom King"-storyline. That's some quality style writing right there.....
