Days Gets New Time-Slot in NYC Tri-State Area

I should add, Days' time switch in Chicago coincided with a massive ratings loss for the show, earlier this year. Chicago also happens to be one of the largest markets in the nation. NYC happens to be THE nation's largest and most influential market. NBC affiliates have been itching to tamper with Days for years now and I can certainly see other affiliates following suit.

I would think this would be better for Days. It's getting killed in its time slot against Y & R, B & B and AMC.

I would think Days would want to go into a less competetive time slot. Going up against the top two CBS soaps and AMC is not good. The 1 pm time slot is the most competetive time slot out of all the soaps. I would think moving to two o'clock would be better for Days. Less competetion.

Days has been at 1:00 hour for years in the NYC tri-state area, so viewers have a sense of loyalty to that hour. Also, NBC is reshuffling it's entire daytime lineup, which isn't good news for Days or any of their non-syndicated programming. Many viewers will probably never know about this time switch and when they tune in to see Days at 1:00 and it's not on anymore, they may never return to the show. Also, Days is big business amongst the lunch-time crown, so 2:00 will not be that convenient for that segment of the show's audience.

On one hand, this could be a good thing because it's no longer up against Y&R/B&B. On the other hand, it's disrupting people's schedules (Days lost ratings earlier this year around the time of the Chicago switch) but I am also a believer that people are smart enough to find a show. I mean, if you have a cable box you can check the guide and find it. Most people do that now to read the previews that are on the guide. Plus, people are internet savvy and read TV Guide and such. Most people will learn where the show is. We'll see.

I think the problem is that even if most DAYS viewers in the NYC market find it in the new slot, the show doesn't really have much room for error these days. So if 75% of normal viewers stick with it, that's still a loss of 25% in the country's biggest TV market for a show that routinely dips below the 2.0 mark. DAYS can't afford that.

Hmm...I'm wondering if this is going to be a nationwide network move, rather than an affiliate move.

Here we are on Central Time and DAYS airs at noon, opposite AMC and the last half of Y&R followed by B&B (on one CBS station, and Access Hollywood and B&B on the other).

In fact here is my current cable soap schedule here:

WAVE-3 (NBC, Louisville, KY)

12pm et/11am ct News

1pm et/12pm ct DAYS

2pm et/1pm ct PSSNS

3pm/2pm Dr. Phil

WTVF-5 (CBS, Nashville, TN)

12pm/11am Talk of the Town (Local talk show)

12:30pm/11:30am Y&R

1:30/12:30 B&B

2pm/1pm ATWT

3pm/2pm GL

4pm/3 pm Rachel Ray

WLKY-32 (CBS, Louisville, KY)

12pm/11am News

1pm/12pm Access Hollywood

1:30/12:30 B&B

2pm/1pm ATWT

3pm/2pm GL

4pm/3pm Y&R

WBKO-13 (ABC, Bowling Green, KY)

12pm/11am News

1pm/12pm AMC

2pm/1pm OLTL

3pm/2pm GH

4pm/3pm Ellen

WHAS-11 (ABC, Louiville, KY)

12pm/11am News

1pm/12pm AMC

2pm/1pm OLTL

3pm/2pm GH

4pm/3pm Oprah

As you can see, we currently have 2 each of CBS and ABC affiliates on cable here, compared with only 1 NBC affiliate.

That's interesting, Scotty.

With NBC airing an extra hour of Today it would make sense to move Days further in the afternoon to facilitate that as Today is a morning show. Like I said, this could be good or bad or even mean nothing. It's interesting and I am worried but we'll see when the ratings come out after all this goes into effect.

EXACTLY my sentiments! NBC and its affiliates have been trying to kill Days for years now. Now that Passions is gone and they're reshuffling their entire daytime schedule, this is the best time to do so. So, when they do cancel the show, which I think the writing is already on the wall for, they can blame it entirely on bad ratings and soaring production costs. NBC knows what game they're playing.
