Daytime Insights

Note that NBC Daytime programs were coded as specials on Monday, 5/28/07, due to the Memorial Day holiday, and were not included in the weekly averages. Data for the Memorial Day specials.

ABC ranked 1st for the week in women 18-49 rating (1.6), followed by NBC (1.4) and CBS (1.3). NBC and ABC were tied for #1 among women 18-34 (1.3) each, followed by CBS (0.9). NBC led ABC among women 18-34 impressions (444,000 W18-34 viewers for NBC vs. 419,000 for ABC). ABC was 1st in women 25-54 (1.8), followed by CBS (1.6) and NBC (1.2). Compared to the prior thirty-six weeks of the season, NBC was flat in women 18-49, was down -0.1 in women 18-34, and dropped -0.3 in women 25-54. After a few months of sub-par deliveries, NBC daytime showed signs of recovery for the second week in a row.

NBC matched last week's result in women 18-49, which had been its best rating in the demo since the week of 2/12/07. DAYS matched last week's ratings in women 18-49 (1.6) and women 25-54 (1.5). Before last week, the program had not achieved a 1.6 women 18-49 since 2/12/07, while a 1.5 women 25-54 rating was its best in the demo since 4/2/07. While women 18-34 (1.5) was down -0.2 from last week, it was still the show's second-highest delivery since 2/12/07.

PASSIONS matched its lowest women 25-54 delivery ever (1.0). CBS was down -0.1 in women 18-49 and women 25-54 vs. its season-to-date averages, while women 18-34 was flat. AS THE WORLD TURNS posted its lowest weekly deliveries ever among women 18-49 (1.0) and women 25-54 (1.2). GUIDING LIGHT drew its lowest weekly women 18-49 delivery since 11/20/06 (also a 1.0). With the end of Bob Barker's run approaching, PRICE II earned its highest women 18-49 delivery since the week of 3/19/07 (also a 1.4). ABC was off -0.1 in women 18-49 and -0.2 in women 25-54 vs. the prior thirty-six weeks, while women 18-34 was up +0.1.

This was ABC's highest women 18-34 result since the week of 3/12/07. With a big Rosie O'Donnell/Elisabeth Hasselbeck fight garnering lots of press attention, THE VIEW earned its strongest weekly women 18-34 rating since 2/26/07 (also a 1.4).

ALL MY CHILDREN drew its lowest weekly women 25-54 delivery (1.6) in the history of people meters.

Yay DAYS! They are slowly building up (really slowly... another +.1, but hey... who cares! As long as it's going up! :D)

Memorial day numbers were horrible... if it weren't for them, ABC soaps would be ok...

GL and ATWT hitting all time lows is BAD! OMG! GL held above 2.0 for SO LONG! And now they had to fall to 1.8... horrible...

PS Thanks, Lskreet!!

I agree winterguy. The show needs a big overhaul. Katie and Jack need to end. No one cares about them. Cleo needs to leave town. And Will needs to leave Gwen. I have a feeling next week's ratings will be worse.

Congrats to Days!!! The really has been very good the past few weeks, at least it is to me! I wasn't sure that they would improve much in the ratings. I would have been happy if they held steady but a 2.3 is wonderful!! I wouldn't be completely surprised if they pass OLTL and AMC very soon!

And, sorry to say, but AMC is not holding steady. They have lost more viewers.

    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
