DIRTY SEXY MONEY (ABC)

STATUS:

currently in development (2007-2008 season)

DEVELOPMENT STAGE:

ordered to pilot

DESCRIPTION:

Power, privilege and family money are a volatile cocktail. Living proof: The Darlings of New York City, so absurdly wealthy they put the "upper" in Upper East Side. This preeminent family's five spoiled adult brats one of them a Presidential candidate are always getting mixed up with the wrong people, including freeloading spouses, illegal immigrants and transvestite hookers. It will take a miracle to keep this Kennedy-esque clan out of the tabloids and out of jail. That miracle comes in the form of Nick George. As a boy, Nick watched his father surrender his freedom and family as the Darling's trusted consigliere. Burned by his own boyhood encounters with the family, Nick did a 180 and became a lawyer for the disadvantaged. But the passing of his dad thrusts the daunting responsibility of protecting the Darlings' secrets onto Nick. When the family's patriarch offers him an ungodly salary, Nick isn't sure if it's the chance of a lifetime - or a life sentence. In no time, he finds himself racing to plead with cops, hush the tabloids and furiously try to wipe the mud off the esteemed Darling reputation. With new disasters every week, hopefully Nick has the stamina for a marathon.

Three-time Emmy® nominee Peter Krause, Emmy® winner Donald Sutherland, and two-time Oscar® nominee Jill Clayburgh star in this younger, sexier, redheaded stepchild of Dallas and Dynasty. Emmy® and Pulitzer® nominated Craig Wright ("Brothers & Sisters," "Lost," "Six Feet Under") and executive producer Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters," "Everwood") use over-the-top situations and razor-sharp satire to illustrate how scads of money can create a great American family... and demolish it.

CAST INFORMATION:

· Donald Sutherland as Tripp Darling

· Jill Clayburgh as Letitia Darling

· Natalie Zea ("Passions," "Eyes") as Karen Darling

I really really am hoping that it gets picked up!

I think it has a great shot because of the cast, I mean Donald Sutherland & Jill Clayburgh as the matriarch and patriarch? That's big

I think it'll get picked up as well, unless the pilot is really crappy and with THAT cast, no way it can be.

*prays*

That's just too big to ignore. Maybe with Donald Sutherland's son on 24 they'll have to give it more consideration *crosses fingers*

I agree. Plus, they have Greg Berlanti and Craig Wright from Brothers & Sisters which has been one of the few hits for ABC this season, so I think that might work in this show's favor as well.

Well they didn't take that into consideration when Donald was on Commander and Chief, an abc show that had so much potential then abc just gave up on it for no reason at all.

This sounds really great. Actually like a B&S clone with more satire edge.

They even an ex-SFU castmember (Griffths -> Kraus) and an Oscar-nominee (Suitherland, not a winner like Sally Field though) among their cast. LOL!

Sounds like a great opposite for Brothers & Sisters. Could be a powerhouse....I'm interested.

Anything with Seth Gabel though...haha

It does sound like a slightly soapier B&S, I will admit, but I still want to see it badly!

This is the one show I'm most anxious to see. I know production on it was recently shut while they retool some elements which often is bad news--but then look at Brothers and Sisters which (after a slightly shakey start and lotsa bad word of mouth) turned into my must see show. On the other hand reviews for DSM have already been pretty good--it's on most cirtics list of shows to watch...

It does remind me of B&S upped to a MUCH soapier, grandiose level but I don't see it as a copy as some here do--the tone already looks drastically different.

The main reason I'm going for it though, besides that killer cast, is Craig Wright who's the creator and show runner/head writer. Much like B&S (and HBO and Six Feet Under) it's interesting that a new relationship based soap is being written by a well known, gay (and fairly political) playwright. Craig Wright wrote one of my fave plays, The Pavillion which was even nomianted for the Pulitzer (!) for drama. He knows what he's doing--he also wrote I think some of the best episodes of Six Feet Under's last years as well as many of Brothers and Sister's best eps last year (In fact I'm a bit disappointed that he'll be leaving B&S). The man is a brilliant writer and I think he'll give this show many layers--from some camp down to more "Deeper" stuff.

Also--William Baldwin is having an affair with the famous transexual Candis Cayne. She actually ahs a contract role--is this the first time network tv has given a real transexual (ie not Rebbeca Stamos) a major role?
