I really wish people would stick with DAYS. I get that the pace is a tad sluggish right now, but creatively, the show is better than it's been in YEARS. I say just give it some more time, but that's JMO.

So I guess the Hogan Honeymoon is over. I see more and more fans giving a thumbs down to his vision of DAYS with each passing day.

Does not bode well for 2009 does it... sad :( Not that I really have ever cared about DAYS but our little genre is dying and its sad :(

I'm still a Hogie Ho! :D And damn proud of it! But we're not going to get into that because I don't want to get accused of "praising" DAYS or taking this into a DAYS discussion. :P

I would say try ATWT. I've been getting into it a lot more lately. People say that the show sucks, but I never was a fan and I'm finding myself attracted to Oakdale more now than I ever have. GL is great now, but you say you already watch. GH would be a great choice as well. You're guarenteed great stories at least 3 times a year.

Just say no to Y&R and The Hack!

If I were going on my opinion alone, I think GL is currently the best soap on the air. There's some problems yes, but overall the quality is the better than it has been in years!

I'll do a little run down on the soaps, excluding the NBC soaps, which you're familiar with. These are obviously just my opinions.

AMC - Total trainwreck of epic proportions. Others soaps might be in bad shape, but not one of the touches the lows of AMC. The next head-writer has a lot of work to do before this show ever becomes somewhat watchable again.

ATWT - Just bad overall storytelling, too many of their stories are predictable and filled with too many plot holes. It doesn't help that the show seems to focus on the same damn characters all the time.

B&B - Well, B&B is just B&B. It has times where it can be truly great and times where you want to throw a hammer at your television set while watching it. Right now, the show is kind of boring, but Eileen Davidson is coming and she might spice things up, even if her storyline sounds beyond lame.

GH - They probably had the best sweeps of any show, but that's obviously a given. Since sweeps has now ended, we're back to most of the same old crap, with the same damn characters being pimped ever damn day.

GL - Better than the rest now, and this show possibly has the best cast of all of daytime. The writing has also gotten a lot better lately. I definitely consider GL the most watchable soap on the air.

OLTL - This show is better than it has been in a while, but still pretty uneven and definitely needs a lot more improvement. For the most part, the storylines are all pretty lame, but the show

more balance than it had last year.

Y&R - It's definitely not the old Y&R we loved. The storylines sound very good on paper, but are executed pretty unevenly on-screen. The pace is fast, but something just seems to be missing. It's more plot-driven now. It's definitely better than say AMC, OLTL, ATWT, and B&B, but the show is slowly losing it's identity. Y&R used to be beyond the other soaps in terms of quality, now it's barely so.

I'd say the best writers in daytime currently are the ones who have yet to be hired :lol:

Every current HW has one time or another proven that they are a hack.

Hogan seems untouchable in terms of criticism by many here but I am breaking that rule.

Julia/Jack/Carly.... 2004-2005....... HACK!

No you didn't.... and I was just making a comment. Yes I would pretty much agree compared to the other's he is pretty good because he still is somewhat fresh to the genre and hasn't been recycled as much as the rest.

ATWT was golden under Hogan for the majority of his run. Daytime needs to take chances on more writers like him. New to the genre. Which is why I was very disappointed when the Burton Armus rumors concerning AMC did not pan out.

      She appeared onscreen not long after Rose Livingston and Sara Montaigne, and we found out that Sara was Rose's estranged daughter. I wonder whether Peggy might have been part of that family group -- or else they were just juggling a few different potential mysteries so that they could develop whatever seemed to be getting the best response from the audience. They didn't do anything much with Rose and Sara really either. Maybe Rose would have become more prominent if Rachel and Mac had split up over Mitch, or if Sara had really flourished. In some ways I can picture Cheryl being affected by MJ's prostitution similarly to how Josie was distressed by finding out about Sharlene. But I can also see that Josie as a Frame being involved with Matthew would have different stakes for Rachel and Sharlene than Cheryl being involved with Scott. I do think the solution for Cheryl would have had to be a badder boy than Scott -- either a real bad boy who would do her wrong, or the kind of bad boy (not Chad!!!) who is essentially misunderstood and other people just don't understand. Cheryl would also have been better off with some friends her own age. Matthew and Josie benefited a bit from having other teenagers to interact with.

      Sally Spencer was a decent actress, but the writing destroyed the "M.J." that Kathleen Layman had built. Layman had a quiet strength about her, and she and Osburn really felt like sisters. Spencer's character should have been either an unmentioned sister, or maybe Jake's that grew up close to Kathleen, M.J. and the rest, but was away for a few years before joining the force. Kristen Marie was o.k., but I always got a mousier vibe from her. Being pigeon-holed with Scott for most of the run hurt things for her, as well.  The Loves were also underserved between Rhonda Lewin and Philece Sampler. Philece would have been better as Nicole. Thank goodness Anne Heche  showed up for the next round of auditions. Christopher Holder was mediocre as Peter, but given a shot, I think Marcus Smythe could have stuck around for a while.  I would have had Peggy Lazarus be a Frame -- possibly an ex-wife for Vince with an agenda. Smythe and Hollen had  a fun chemistry that could have kept the two around.. Bringing recasts for  Cheryl and Ben back mixing it up with other Frames. Corys, Lawrences at the time might have kept all the families stronger.

      That's an odd coincidence. Yeah, Roger would turn anything he could to his advantage. At the time, he's just taking the pictures to bank leverage over Reva, Billy or the Lewises.  I'm kinda squeamish about 1986 episodes myself. I'd love to hear the original version of Ross/Vanessa/Dinah, but the Cain story is bad, and I don't want Billy and Vanessa to break up.

      Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.

      I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.

      That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
