As a person who tuned in during an episode in Junior High School and took one look at Erica Kane the Senusal Model, and never stopped watching, I can relate to falling in love with a character then coming to care about the other families, stories, and before you know Pinevalley becomes a place I grow up with. over 25 years later it angers me that the characters I watched grow up and marry and have children and trials and tribulations are pushed aside and ignored. TPTB are idiots if they underestimate the economic power and rating power of the generation that pushed AMC to the # 1 slot. While I am the first to admit that I am at times drawn to the power and talent of some of the newbies you cannot base entires plots around people like Babe, Zarf and Zach no matter how popular they are with a bubble gum crowd. A well planned story (remember those) is one rooted in history and using the talents of the veterans. Cady was many things, but she was also a two time emmy winner as was Julia. David Canary, 5 time emmy winner needs to be pushed to the forefront pronto with three time winner MEK. Though she may have only one Emmy, you cannot overlook the impact Lucci has on the show, history and the cast. Her relationship with Alica and Eden is so believable and took time to build that I care about them even though they are recast they are just as dear to me as Susan. We care about and believe in her relationship with Jack and through that we have accepted Lily, Greenlee, Sean and Reggie ( which is a damn shame they still don't address his abscence properly). Her respect/hate relationship with Brooke was a show staple though she will always be good as a sparing partner with Barbara because once again their is history there we know about be cause we lived through it. Writers can't ruin that because for someone who has watched for 30 years the look Susan Pratt and Susan Lucci gave each other transcends dialogue, that is what is missing now. I will give credit, Jacob Young and Alexa Havins are great talents that can hold their own with the veterans, but you need to blend more experience with these new plots and people who should have remained day playes like everyone at Wildwind, and Confusion. This show is suffering from a total disregard and lack of concern about history and the long time viewer. They never needed ratings tricks or sweeps because in the old days they told good solid stories about family and relationships. The conflict of love and the obstacles of life were enough to keep you interested everyday not just four times a year. Perhaps a focus group with people who are knowledgable and have a vested concern for the show would help the writers and producers learn to respect the history that we to have lived with the characters and actors.

Maybe not the actual show, but surely you see how the OPENING (what I was referring to in the post) honors the past. That VERY retro picture of Erica, for starters. You won't find that on ANY other soap that has ditched its vets and history onscreen during storytime. That's what I meant. No matter how much Pine Valley has changed in the show's narrative, the opening reminds everyone of what it was, and connects the two eras. I think it's brilliant.

I think it’s bad, and I never thought I’d say this but I wish AMC had a bigger fall in the ratings so that Frons could fire McTavish. But, I think he can do it now but doesn’t want to. I’m so sorry that this once sophisticated soap opera is in tatters and no-one is doing a thing to prevent further fall.

I think AMC is absolutely horrible. Some of the premise isn't all bad - a serial killer with ties to someone's past, a transgendered person's journey and a baby saga that could pan out for years. However, they're all done the wrong way. Look at the Wildwind group - I love a group of friends on a soap but they are so contrived it's ridiculous.

Don't get me started on Jonathan not only living in home of the man he murdered in cold blood -- BUT living on the same grounds on which he committed the crime?!?

But, yeah, I agree with you. The ideas and concepts aren't bad at all. But they've all been turned into stories to center around Babe. The Satin Slayer... All About Babe (I mean, really. When Dixie was pronounced dead, and the first words you hear is, "That could've been Babe?"). Zoe's transgender journey? All About Babe (When a transitioning person decides to make their first legitimate debut in the world dressed as a woman -- JUST TO HELP BABE...).

This show is having such major problems because it doesn't know how to focus its already piss poor writing on anything except Babe or Ryan.

Well I have to disagree here. Since about Thanksgiving, Colby has drastically changed and the actress portraying her has improved so much. Just watch today's episode to see an example of that.

Lily was on a LOT last year and most of the posters around here anyway hated her storylines. Besides the romantic pairing of Lily/Jonathan, I enjoyed most of her stuff (Terry, NYC, etc etc). Now she's been given a break lately, but she pops up every once in awhile.

Dani was featured pretty regularly once the Satin Slayer storyline started...once she got attacked and was saved, they sent her to live with relatives in Hawaii until the killer is caught. So who knows when she'll come back.

Anyway - I think AMC is worth watching, if only for Bobbie Eakes! That chick has already won the Emmy for her performances all week.

    • I think they’re desperately trying to cover his awful tattoos. But anyway them being unable to style short kings properly has been a major pet peeve of mine for a while now.  I honestly don’t understand what some people expect from actors to even begin considering them for recognition. Let’s be real—awards mostly mean that an actor is respected by their peers and has some level of cultural relevance. Actual judgment on the acting itself? That’s often secondary—highly subjective and shaped by the times. I completely agree on both points. If you’re an actor or a dancer you shouldn’t get any tattoos (sorry not sorry). Tomas’ tattoos are ugly too. And regarding the couples- you’re completely right. These writers are unable to write romance.   Further comments: - Kat cannot be this dumb to keep tampering with evidence over and over again. And I’m officially not a fan of the actress—every time she’s in a scene with Leslie, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all. She plays it like comic relief, which is just too much, especially when paired with Leslie’s histrionics and over-the-top antics. Leslie is older, dangerous, and has literally been portrayed as homicidal—Kat should be at least a little scared. • I also didn’t like Kat playing damsel in distress with the hotel manager. It gave off the same weird energy as Dani with the cop. I would’ve much preferred the version Paul Raven suggested, with her sneaking in through housekeeping. • And yes, Dani again accused Hayley of faking the pregnancy—this time even specifying she might be using a pillow under her shirt. (No fake miscarriage being mentioned) I stand by my take: this is ridiculous writing. No one in the real world—except us, the chronically online soap watchers—would even think of such a conspiracy theory. Haley is no Beyoncé. • What in the world was Chelsea wearing in her hair the other day? And this whole thing with Madison is beyond cringe. Chelsea’s coming off as needy and toxic—basically like every other Dupree. • I’m glad the casino storyline is moving forward, but it’s still boring as hell. Honestly, I’d be so here for a plot twist where Vanessa and Doug take Joey out. • The direction and editing lately have been rough. Abrupt cuts, weird pacing… something just feels off overall. There’s a strange uneasiness to how it’s all coming together. • And finally: Tomas is too much of a saint. Where are the messy sluts when you need them? (Vanessa doesn’t count.)
    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
    • If the new and improved copies that @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded can be manually moved into the "by month, by year" folders, that would be awesome. I personally don't think it's necessary to keep the older versions (which either have Dutch subtitles hard coded on them, or are lesser in picture quality). That's a lot of valuable drive space that could be cleared. Just my view but can appreciate others may feel differently. The structure had been by month by year previously, so I think it would be easier to conform to that, where so much prior work to get it to that format has already been done. Hopefully you can "drag and drop" so the new copies are in the right month/year? Re Clips, I never look at them now we pretty much have the episodes in full. Appreciate others may use, however. Thanks for all your hard work here @BoldRestless!
    • Oh yes defintely, Josh Griffith repeats and repeats the same storylines.
    • Isnt’t this storyline similar to the Cameron Kirsten situation though? Sharon thought she killed him. He ended up being alive and Sharon was being tormented with thinking she was seeing his face everywhere and that’s how we got that iconic scene with her and Nikki in the sewers.   I understand in Mariah’s case this is different circumstances but it does seem like a play on that whole thing. Maybe I’m wrong. I just wish if they were going to make any character follow in Sharon’s foot steps it would be Faith. Mariah wasn’t even raised by her, and her personality is different. I would expect her to take a different path. I understand I could be completely jumping ahead because the storyline hasn’t even played out yet but we’ll see.
