DAYS: With Renee Jones Out and More Pink-Slips coming...

It is just like SSK, only worse because this time you KNOW they won't be coming back. At least not anytime soon.

Well, the last time we thought they weren't either since the deaths were graphic but they all did return. How won't they be coming back? C&A left town and so did J&J. We don't know Lexie is exiting yet so we don't know. If Abe gets fired, I can see Lexie and him leaving with Theo. It would suck not having any diversity though.

I am upset by this and having to fire more people but the thing I hate the most is that this will be the thing used by many out there to bash Hogan with. Many Days fans won't trust him now and this is really going to hurt. RJ leaving won't hurt ratings but still it won't drive them up if people can't trust the show.

Taylor should go. Roman is useless and Taylor has never been accepted but since Corday is clearly making the decisions I don't see it happening. JR was used before on his own so they could drop him to recurring and do it again. I think Tek, Stephanie, and Bonnie are out next and I am actually preparing myself to see Julie Pinson leave too. I think she is very expendable. I don't thins Lauren Koslow is. That is one character that has major story potential and if the Vivian rumors are true then she is safe.

Days will still be recognizable. They have a strong young cast and they still have a ton of vets and that is the problem. Days has so many vets that in times like this it's hard to decide who goes. Lexie is not part of a supercouple or the core families (Dimera's are core but not like Brady/Horton) so she is more expendable. I only hope they don't kill her and bring her back some day. I just love the character but part of me wants a good exit too.

Corday and the inconsistent writing over the past years is to blame. To me, it all began to really snowball when they demoted B&C because the show was on such a high. It has been whirlwind since then. That decision IMO led to all this mess. The show had some trouble before that but not like this.

I am hopeful it will turn out for the best and I think it will. I just hope Hogan doesn't take the hit for this. I am interested in watching all this unfold and seeing where the chips fall.

Are you in my head? Seriously, everything you have been posting about for the last month could have come straight out of my mouth aswell...LOL

I, ONCE again totally agree with you on almost EVERYTHING!

I think Judi Evans(Bonnie) should go and maybe Annie Burgstede(Willow). I'm afraid James Reynolds(Abe), Rhasaan Orange(Tek) & Tanya Boyd(Celeste), who's not on contract (I know) next.

Perhaps

All I know is I am going to try not to let this sour me on the good things Days is doing. I do think Days needs to get soem faves (ED, LS, JM, etc) back and then confirm it to counteract some of the negative press and reaction. That may be a good idea because the anti-Hogan caravan will be running amok in the days ahead.

I think it won't be too bad, but I agree that they need to get some good casting news out soon, with either one of the three you mentioned signing on at DAYS.

Joseph Mascolo would be a HUGE signing for DAYS and would be a very big anticipated return. Davidson and Sorel were HUGE fan favorites too.

If DAYS can land these 3 actors in the next few months (while avoiding firing ANY of the big names they have right now), they are laughing!

I didn't say they would NEVER come back. But with the budget problems, they probably won't be coming back any time in the near future. I'm not one of the fans crying that the show is becoming unrecognizable, because I agree with those that say it isn't. Hell, compare DAYS to all the other soaps on the air and it has more long-timers still on the show than any one. I'm merely saying that this time, it's not like Corday's going to be able to afford to bring them all back in one lump sum (much as I wish it were so). That's all. I'm one of the biggest Hogan supporters there is (hense my username), so I am all for what he has planned for DAYS.

Info provided by Michel Kinter, Executive assistant with New York's American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA)

Newbie (1-4 years)

Salary Range: $900-1,300 per episode

Guarantee: 1-3 days per week guarantee

Tried and True: (5-9 years)

Salary Range: $1,200-$2,500 per episode

Guarantee: 1-3 days

Veterans (10+ years)

Salary Range: $2,000-$4,000 per episode

Guarantee: 1-3 days

When an actor has to double his/her workload, the paycheck is negotiable. "Actors are generally paid for both roles," explains Stephen Burrow, Executive director of New York's AFTRA local. "For an ongoing role, the person may actually negotiate for both roles. For the second role, they'll get paid NOT less than minimum."

Using the guide above....

Departed/ing

Melissa Reeves 80 Episodes $320,000 *Based on 4,000 per eppy*

Matthew Ashford 45 Episodes $180,000 *Based on 4,000 per eppy*

Renee Jones 110 Episodes $220,000

Jason Cook 128 Episodes $256,000

Austin Peck 125 Episodes $250,000

Christie Clark 118 Episodes $236,000

Farah Fath 145 Episodes $290,000

Billy Warlock 80 Episodes: $160,000

Based on $2,000 per episode

That is a total of around 2 million saved (from Jan-Oct)

Here's the Top Vets Salary (Jan-Oct) @ $4,000 per episode

Peter Reckell $630,000

Alison Sweeney $600,000

Kristian Alfonso $600,000

Lauren Koslow $400,000

Deidre Hall $360,000

Drake Hogestyn $360,000

We know they won't touch Bo, Hope, Marlena, John or Sami and that only leaves The Koz ;)

I think a lot of the soaps budget problems is balance. Don't shove any character down out throats 5 days a week. If they have a 3 day a week guarantee, use them 3 days. (unless a major story is playing out) It would definitly save on money.

Ugh still pissed about Renee going :(

I think they'll keep Abe but drop him to recurring. I still don't think there brave enough to get rid of all the african american actors.

I personally think Tek's going to end up killing Lexie. He's gotten this real stalkerish vibe to him lately. Then the other day he say's he'd rather die.

If Hogan does kill Lexie it better be damn good. I want Renee Jones to show what talen they're missing.

  • Member

It also finally answers another question. If the show has been moving slowly, it maybe because Hogan & the writing team didn't want to kick off any big stories until these cast cuts are done.

  • Member

I REEAAALLLLLY hope Lexie isn't killed off, it's bad enough she's being written off at all. Hopefully, it's something like she goes to jail for killing Tek or something. Just so long as she could come back at some point. I know the show will survive without her, but it's so hard to imagine DAYS without Lexie, she's been on ever since I started watching.

Yeah but even that scale is probably off Rick. So it is really hard to judge exactly how much they have saved. Because for some of the like Deidre Hall they get alot more than most others do per episode. And she is guaranteed I think at least pay for 4 episodes per week. I think I seem to remember reading that. She may be one of the daytime stars who gets paid for 5 episodes a week even if she is not on. There are several that fall in that range. I think someone said Susan Lucci was one of those on Days.

So you take into account for some of the big vets like Deidre who get paid for 4 or 5 episodes a week even if they are not on, and all the contract players have a guarantee of so many episodes a week. They are maybe still hurting even with the cuts.

And vets like Susan & Bill Hayes still get that big episode pay even if they are on for a show every once in awhile even without a contract, so that more than likely is more the contributing factor as to why they haven't been on - more so than their traveling. I believe that esp. now since we are hearing they are not through cutting. If the budget is still needing to be met or they are trying to make cuts to afford other vets, then I don't believe we will be seeing much of the Hayes' or any vets that get cut to recurring. That does not bode well at all for James Reynolds, Suzanne Rogers or Peggy McCay if they did get cut to recurring.

I'd love Tek to kill her in a jealous rage! Or a DD accident.

That is an excellent point. It's hard to get anything started when more cuts keep coming. I tend to think it is more to do with getting the show past all the crap of the last few years though.

I don't want Lexie killed because I want the possibility of her returning there but I do want her to have a memorable exit so I guess I don't know what I want but it should be interesting to see what happens

Ademption....Brody was fired months ago and he's not departing until around february...So just because RJ got fired last week, doesn't mean she's leaving before the end of the year....
