Possibility of Kay Alden going to ABC

This is an old article, of course.

In this week's TV Guide, Kay Alden talks about her role as headwriter, the direction she is taking the show and about the firing of Michael Damian (Danny).

When asked if she will take on a more feminist perspective, steer away from the show's sexist formula where most men are controllers and most women live their lives desperately trying to win, steal or keep the man of their dreams, KA says she doesn't want to tamper too much with a formula that works. But the '90s are a different time and she thinks they should look carefully at their tapestry of female characters and see if they should broaden the base of their storytelling. Some women, like Diane, might move in more career-oriented directions.

KA adds that if Y&R is lacking in any way, it's their ability to draw young viewers, but she will address that without bringing in a bunch of extraneous teenagers. TV Guide suggests that KA's sensibilities have already paid off handsomely for Shemar Moore (Malcolm). Although daytime's most popular African-American actor, he has often been relegated to the back burner since joining Y&R in 1994, because BB never quite knew what to do with him. Under KA, Moore is now front and center with a sparkling new leading lady, Michelle Thomas.

KA confirms industry buzz that her agent was shopping her as a headwriter to ABC when BB gave her the gig. She also admits that she and BB recently clashed, reportedly quite heatedly, over Michael Damian (Danny). BB wanted to axe Damian because he felt the dramatic potential of his character had been exhausted. KA, who had a big story in mind for the actor, wanted to keep him. But BB won.

And that's not their only point of disagreement: BB refuses to acknowledge CBS viewer research, especially fan focus groups. He feels they are valueless and has an inherent distrust of them, a view that KA doesn't share. She says that she is very interested in what viewers have to say, but that doesn't mean she is going to do what they tell her to do.

So, is it a real possibility or will CBS keep her?

How dumb does was one have to be to see any value focus groups? Gloria Monty, Bill Bell and Agnes Nixon never saw any use in them and I believe that decision has been vindicated lol.

Reading this, I don't want Alden to come to ABC (third time I've changed my mind on this!). Mind you I always thought Danny was a bore.

She won't be coming to AMC anytime soon. And I was reading an interview with Dena Higley where she seems pretty confident in her position. And Guza has a lifetime contract under Frons.

Notice she says she doesn't plan on bringing in new viewers with a teen overload...thats exactly what she did!
