Days: Rumor about future storyline

I think the storyline needs to be told. Again, it hasn't been done in daytime in several years for anyone to remember. It does happen in real life.

I doubt Brandt, Cook and Fath left becuase of the storyline though. Do you think it even has anything to do with these 3? They all decided to leave even before Hogan came onboard so that's a lie.

I can see Will being the rape victim. They would need to find a better actor that can handle scenes like this because Christopher Gerse just can't do it. It would bring Lucas and Sami together, or it may just tear them apart. It would be such good drama. The only problem with this possibility is the fact that Hogan wants LUMI to be the new comical couple (ala Jack and Jennifer). I don't see anything funny about male rape so maybe Will isn't going to be the victim.

I don't want to see Shawn as the victim either. It wouldn't be believable to me.

I think Corday would probably object to the storyline, but doesn't Sheffer have the control over the writing? I understood that he was supposed to, but maybe I misunderstood.

I also agree that Brandon Beemer doesn't have the acting chops for this kind of story. I'm just not that enthused over the guy.

As for the rumor about this storyline being the reason Cook, Fath, and Brandt left, is total BS.

I think having Will as a rape victim would be an excellent story, but I'm sorry not with Christopher Gerse. Then again, maybe it would make a lot of sense too, because of how Will looks.

Most likely, a storyline like this will probably not even see daylight.

That is apparently one of those stories that has gone around in the soap world that really isn't true. Some "Love of Life" fans on another board said that while Ben was in prison he was about to be raped, but then there was a fire in the prison and Ben got out and saved his potential rapist I believe.

I had heard that too. I have discussed this on my board with some other fans too. Some have that opinion of the story that Ben escaped being raped too. I know that some remember it like I did that even though it was not shown that you know what happened. I guess thinking now years later, it was best to leave it like that and not discuss it much.

I do remember a quote from a book called "The Soap Opera Book". I don't have the book any longer (lost it along with many others), so don't remember who wrote it. But it was the 1970's. But a quote from it said it was an attempted rape too: "This year on Love of Life, Ben Harper was convicted of bigamy and sent to prison. At first his imprisonment was marked by boredom and depression; later he learned of the violence that is equally characteristic of prison life. He was subjected to physical attacks, and even to attempted rape.

The show tried to realistically depict the cruelty and degradation experienced by men behind bars. (In addition, this story marked the first time that male rape was ever discussed on a daytime serial.)"

I remember Christopher Reeve discussing the role once on a talk show - could have been on James Lipton's show. He said that he knew about the proposed story, but was already leaving to take on the role of Superman. It was Chandler Harben's first story as Ben. I remember him saying that the character was raped, but he didn't say if he saw the show or not.

Here is a pic that I got some years ago of Chandler Harben as Ben during the prison story. I don't remember who the other guys were, but some of them look familiar. I didn't save the caption for some reason.

I guess some will debate it for years, and maybe that is what the writers wanted. I do know that most historians agree with those of us who say the rape happened. But who knows for sure.

I don't see the big fuss about a male/male rape scene as brutally as they rape women on soaps. It's actually a common thing for women and nobody seems to care. I remember being particularly disturbed during Bianca's rape on AMC and Emily's on GH.

The closest thing to a male rape would be Kevin getting beat up in prison. That was pretty heartbreaking.

IF they recast Will with someone who could act, I'd think it'd be great to have Will be the victim, should it happen to begin with.

Think of the possibilities of Sami confronting her own past rape while trying to deal with Will's.

Sweeney would ROCK those scenes.

Um, I'd doubt that Alan would rape Sami's son to get revenge on her. He's not gay.

    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archivedcopy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
    • I'm sorry. I well remember Jake doing Doris but I have no independent memory of the story around it.  Krystle with a K Lake, sure, both Tony the Tuna stories & NOT.  And, Jake also impersonated a woman named Bunny Eberhardt but he didn't know she was a woman so there was no drag. This weekend I re-watched Kevin & Mac, GH, and my strong impression is exactly what it was when I watched it in real time: They did not let them look very pretty. Of course, I think the best ever drag on GH was Alexis posing as the Q butler.  In a different use of drag at AW one Halloween, Jensen Buchanan went as Charlie Chaplin & Judi Evans went as, I think, a male gypsy.
