The story goes that Douglass Watson came on in August 74 as a possible love interest for Liz and then Lemay saw a spark with Rachel and rewrote the story. They started seeing each other in December and were married by February. So I wonder what he planned to do with Rachel had Mac not entered the picture? Maybe Neil Johnson as he arrived around that time... He decided to go with a quick marriage and then the fallout, rather than having Rachel/Mac face obstacles on their way to the altar. Do you think that was the best decision or should he have invested more in the relationship/courtship and delay a wedding?

Read up on Lisa's background. Her parents divorced when she wan infant, her mother was an alcoholic and died at 34. She married for the first time at 15. So it seems there wasn't a lot of stability there. She was married to Doug Stevenson (Lee SFT) for a few years.

Yikes, I had to turn that off after a few minutes. Looks like they were the types who continually set themselves up for drama and then scramble around trying to justify and blame others. I'm sure booze and drugs don't help...

Why would Doug be asked to be in the photo? He was shut out of the show twice and hasn't been seen for over a year. They obviously had little interest in Paul and him speaking out sealed the deal. Kate Linder is prepared to be on a few times a year but Doug wasn't willing. With no sign of him returning as part of the 50th I think that's definitely the end of Paul. Eric spoke out last time but not a word from anyone this time around.

I have read conflicting reports that writers receive payments and residuals for creating new characters on soaps. I have read flat out denials and discussions like the ones above that indicate otherwise. Can anyone clear this up?

Hope so. The current opening is as dull as the show. Some more current and flattering shots would be good especially for MTS. And maybe some variety in the shots rather than having the actors in the same outfit -and sometimes the same pose- in the close up and background shot.

The Doctors The Dancys Hit -Barney, Virginia, Joan, Luke. Sara, Nola,Jerry. I'd have to say hit in that even though 3 of them died they were still a presence on the show till the end. GL Spauldings Hit - Alan, Elizabeth, Phillip .Alex etc From their intro in 1977 on they maintained a presence despite all the changes around them.

OLTL Vernons Hit - Will, Samantha and Brad were on for years and the children were front burner. O'Neills Miss - Harry then Pete. Connie, Joy.Didi. They were pushed at the start but then petered out

I would break these years into 2 eras 73-80 growing years Original concept carried through ratings growing although 79 was beginning to show cracks with recasts and story choices eg Leslie as Pris, Jill/Stuart 80-82 rocky years expansion to an hour, multiple new characters, timeslot change, original characters/themes sidelined/dropped.

Ok. You might be right and Robby originated the role and played it for a few months and then Maitland took over and continued until Gary Tomlin assumed the role. We know from past experience that published dates in reference books can be way off. Thanks for all your detective work!

John and JLB also starred in the pilot for 'Together Again' which was planned as a daily syndicated soap produced in Mexico. It never got past the pilot stage. It was stated that they may not continue if the show was picked up -they were used basically as names to promote the show and dress up the pilot.

Y&R Success- Prentiss family - Vanessa, Lance and Lucas and Leslie/Lorie as in laws. Flop- Bill Bell tried with the Stevens-April, Dorothy and Wayne and then twin sister Barbara but then quickly dumped them all. SFT Kendalls -flop? Lloyd, Steve, Michael, Estelle,Chase, Alec,TR So many recasts, story changes meant that family never really took off. They were never on the canvas at the same time. AW Holloways -flop Taylor,Miranda,Amy, Rick,Kit .The show dropped many more familiar and long running characters to focus on this clan but they were soon dropped.

I get that having Nate as a doctor was limiting, especially as there was no hospital set or storyline. But they needed better motivation to have him move into the business world. Could have been interesting to see him move into business. Of course we have the awful 'media' setting with podcasts and now Daniel's dumb game.
