Re: Alan recasts. Two things I've pointed out before. Daniel Pilon seemed like a stop-gap in order to wrap up Alan storylines and write the character off the canvas. I am 99% sure that JFP had a friend in mind for Alan but said friend was either not available or not interested, thus Ron Raines was cast and he was a virtual unknown to daytime fans but not to musical theater fans.

Ratings from the 70's
September 11, 1972 CBS rearranged the soap schedule (all times ET) 11:30 am Love of Life Noon Where the Heart Is 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm Local programming 1:30 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light (moved up from 2:30 pm) 2:30 pm The Edge of Night (moved up from 3:30 pm) 3 pm Love is a Many Splendored Thing (moved down from 2 pm) 3:30 pm The Secret Storm (moved down from 3 pm) We know the move for The Edge of Night was an epic failure. The moves of Love is a Many Splendored Thing and The Secret Storm look like tank jobs. March 26, 1973 the soap schedule changed again (all times ET) 11:30 am Love of Life Noon Y&R (series premiere, replaces Where the Heart Is) 12:30 pm Search for Tomorrow 1 pm Local programming 1:30 pm As the World Turns 2 pm Guiding Light 2:30 pm The Edge of Night 3 pm The Price is Right (moved down from 10:30 am, replaces Love is a Many Splendored Thing. 10:30 am had the series premiere of $10,000 Pyramid) 3:30 pm Hollywood's Talking (series premiere, replaces The Secret Storm) 4 pm The Secret Storm (replaces The Vin Scully Show) Isolating The Secret Storm from the rest of the soaps, that looks like sabotage.

I don't consider Andre a playboy, he's more like popular with the ladies.

We knew from Day 1 that Hayley was all about the come up. The supposed pregnancy is how she's going to secure the bag.

ALL: General Retro Soap Discussion
Y&R had a fictional country in 1980, San Leandro. I'm thinking it was supposed to be in the Caribbean.

The more I think about it, I'd guess the 1985 favorite was Deidre Hall as supercouple Days was going strong. Robin Strasser won three years earlier but the 1985 nomination was during One Life to Live tanking era (from the 1980s Ratings thread One Life to Live was tanking from when Y&R moved past them for #3 in 1984 until Andrea Evans return in 1985). I broke down Elizabeth Hubbard losses in the As the World Turns thread but I think she had the same issues as Susan Lucci, the submissions were not so great. As for Susan Lucci, the losing streak actually boosted her profile. Even those who never watched All My Children or daytime at all knew who she was. The losing streak also played a part in bringing an audience to the Daytime Emmy broadcasts. It's no wonder the Daytime Emmys stopped being relevant once the streak was over and it's also telling that Susan Lucci was the only Daytime Emmy winner who's win got a People cover story.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
We already know Marcus indulged. Maybe Jody likes Marcus for his access to the finer stuff. Larsa still trying to snag a baller, which is just ridiculous at her big age. She got half of Scottie Pippen retirement fund in their divorce plus she apparently has family money so I don't think she's hurting for cash.

GL was so unstable after Nancy Curlee left the writing team in March 1994. A series of writers until Megan McTavish and her run was July 1995 to October 1996. The EP swap from JFP to Michael Laibson in May 1995 and his run was until December 1996. GL entered cancel territory in 1995 and 1996 many consider GL's nadir.

Y&R: Old Articles
Michael Crawford arc was 1986-1990 I believe. I agree that he was pretty much replaced by John Silva as the go-to lawyer in town. Y&R lawyers in the 1980s were Greg Foster, Mitchell Sherman, Tyrone Jackson, Michael Crawford, Glenn Richards, John Silva. Then in the 1990s Cricket became lawyer Christine and Michael Baldwin arrived.

The Golden Girls 40 years later
Can't say I'm surprised re Bea Arthur/Betty White beef. Watch Betty White 1986 Emmy win and when the camera pans to Bea Arthur she does not look happy. Oddly enough, Bea Arthur was close friends with Angela Lansbury and they seem like the two most unlikely people to have a friendship. From what I've seen online, their friendship began when they both starred in the 1966 Broadway production of Mame and lasted until Bea's death.

Has it ever been said that Kat was waiting for a ring before giving up the goodies? I really hope that BtG doesn't go the prized virgin heroine becomes a rape victim route with Kat like Y&R did with Cricket and B&B did with Caroline. At least As the World Turns didn't have Lily raped, but Lily rushed into her first time and I also hope Kat doesn't rush into her first time.

ALL: Your first soap watching memory
Sometime in the 1980s, sneak watching Y&R on a school break. I loved The Price is Right growing up so that naturally made me curious about the show that came on after. My 1980s school break memories of Y&R are mostly of the summer social issue storylines, cringy Danny concerts, and Cricket eating the show.
