  1. 2:30 - 3:13 = the part where amateur/karaoke singers embarrass themselves trying to imitate the Queen. This is funny:
  2. Can’t believe they are both gone.
  3. Sadly she has passed. https://apnews.com/bec7e5ec9193462ebb7dce2047ef9c46
  4. NYT: 60 times Madonna changed the culture: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/08/16/arts/music/madonna-birthday-impact.html
  5. By now, we’ve all heard she isn’t well, and I know there are many fans here, so I thought it would be appropriate to start an appreciation thread. During college, my friend and I would lounge around in my dorm and just soak in every track from her 30 Greatest Hits double CD. Other than Songs in the Key of Life, I don’t think there’s an album I’ve played more. My favorite song has always been “Angel,” with its spoken intro dedicated to her sister Carolyn and its almost unbearable sense of longing and loneliness.
  6. There are just too many to list! She lost me somewhere around Ray of Light, although there are select songs I enjoy post-1997/98. A short BBC by-the-numbers piece on Madonna’s career (with British chart stuff but some other stats as well): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-45112992?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook&ns_mchannel=social
  7. The ladies making their entrances and greeting Andy was fun, but I thought it was unusually lacking in content for a HW reunion trailer. It makes me curious if the reunion itself will be lacking in content, especially with Luann not taking part.
  8. Ridiculous scene between Phyllis and Lily, but it’s par for the course. GT’s Phyllis may as well have been a completely different character from Stafford’s.
  9. Bad luck for Serena to face Kvitova in the second round in Cincy. Serena looked more solid than she has all year this week, so maybe this provides something to build on in NYC (and she’ll be fresher with this early loss).
  10. Thiem withdraws from Cincy; Garcia-Lopez takes his spot.
  11. Can they kill Jack? I’m sick of that guy.
  12. Wow. They have a crawl during today’s show reading, “We want to know what you think of The Bold and the Beautiful. Go to cbs.com/daytime and tell us what you think.” They must be alarmed at the moment.
  13. RSW is probably more conventionally attractive, but to each their own, right? We don’t all have to salivate over the same men. Some of us don’t salivate over men at all.
  14. That was fast. I wonder how many others will announce they aren’t playing Cincy. Good quote:
  15. The soaps gave up a long time ago. They are just maintaining their dwindling, literally dying audience for as long as possible until they can’t slash budgets anymore. They are comfort food for folks who enjoy kitschy nostalgia while paying very trivial lip service to trends. Everyone can find a show for themselves these shows if they look hard enough, and we just don’t “need” Y&R or GH anymore. And you know what? That’s cool. I sometimes wish soaps had ‘70s-quality writing applied to 2018 issues and demographics, but “Insecure” is on tonight so... Really, who knows where broadcast TV as a whole will be in 10 years? Look how desperate ABC has been with the Oscars, forcing them to create some BS “Best Popular Film” award because of how ratings have trended. Live sports is hemorrhaging viewers. The whole ship is sinking, and daytime soaps just happened to be one of first parts to be submerged. But it’s always sad when these shared experiences die. I don’t like seeing everyone in their little bubbles.
