ARTICLE: Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte Named New Co-Head Writers at ‘General Hospital’, Replacing Outgoing Writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor
I would, if I could get past the technical issues. And IA that Mulcahey is too good for daytime. It's a shame no primetime or streaming series has ever snapped him up.

ALL: Actors who returned in a new role - has it ever worked?
If anyone really wants to know how TPTB at GH felt about Claudia, look no further than how they dispatched with her: blow to the head with an axe handle, followed by a burial in the woods. The intensity of this scene makes the whole, shitty story that led up to it almost - almost - worthwhile:

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
He was. Like @Mitch64 said, GL, and specifically JFP, made a big to-do over Douglas Anderson becoming the show's latest HW, even though most had not heard of him before in any capacity. Anderson wasn't around for very long, however, which tells me that either he realized what a mistake he had made in coming aboard and bailed quickly, or P&G realized right away that he wasn't suited to writing for soaps and cut him loose first chance they got. Who knows? Maybe the decision was mutual, lol. Much of Megan McTavish's writing for GL was bad, but what she wrote for the Grant family, with Gilly unwittingly falling for her biological father, was particularly horrid.

We have a serious problem in this country when it comes to age. Biden and Trump should be disqualified to run or run again, because they're "too old"? Say what!?

Well, just as long as she isn't playing THIS Diana...

TBH, I'm not looking forward to a Biden/Trump rematch. If Biden loses, then that means we get another four years of Trump (and maybe more, if he gets his way) and I don't think the country would survive that. On the other hand, if Trump loses, then that means we get to play another round of "the election was rigged!," and I don't think the country would survive that either. Either way, the 2024 election, IMO, will be the moment when our nation is torn to ribbons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there some sort of controversy surrounding America Ferrara when she still was on "Ugly Betty"? Not anything to do with her personal life, per se, but just that she was polarizing for some reason.

"We lost the jobs that we love, because we chose to love each other." Never mind the fact that you two were married to other people at the time, right? Yeesh.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Was it that soon, lol? IIRC, "The Chew" ran for several years, but with perennially low ratings and a cloud of controversy over it, thanks to those "sexual misconduct" allegations against Mario Batali. "The Revolution," on the other hand, was over and done with in less than a year, which surprised me, because, even though their ratings weren't nearly as good as OLTL's, you would've thought the network would have held onto it a little bit longer and maybe attempted a revamp of sorts for it.

Yep, lol. Was that when Beth Ehlers' Taylor McBride Thompson vanished without any explanation?

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
In retrospect, the cross-country move might have bought AMC a little more time, but I feel like cancellation was inevitable no matter what Julie Hanan Carruthers and her writers did or tried to do.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Exactly. As I said upthread, if they can provide definition and purpose to Drew and to John Caleb Silas Finn (among others!), they will have won half the battle.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
I won't ask/expect too much from Mulcahey/Korte, especially at the start. Just better pacing and clearer objectives for characters and storylines.

ICAM, @BetterForgotten. On the very slim chance that you peruse these boards, Mr. Mulcahey, and are at a loss over what to write for JE/Tracy, here is my advice, pitch, plea, suggestion, etc.: please coax TPTB into bringing Justin Deas on as Tracy's new love interest. Not only because I'm aware of your mutual admiration society, but also because I know in my gut that he and Ms. Elliot would make an incredible older couple on any show, not just on GH. (You'll thank me later.)

I was back for Jane Elliot, ready to leave again because of we-know-who, but now I'll be sticking around indefinitely.

I'd love to see "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" tie for Best Picture, lol.

I'd love to ask those younger voters why they think Trump will be different from Biden on Israel/Palestine, lol. If anything, I think Trump would be even more gung ho about Bibi and Israel.

ARTICLE: Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte Named New Co-Head Writers at ‘General Hospital’, Replacing Outgoing Writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor
Why is it that every time I think I can walk away from these soaps for good, they up and do something to pull me back in?

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
He did. And he seemed to be satisfied with his (well-earned) retirement, too. So, what did it take to lure him back, ABCD? Creative autonomy, Bob Iger's spare yacht loaded down with cash, or both?

If Biden is in danger of losing the "youth vote," then it's because the youth in this country are too damn busy griping about the trees and not paying any attention to the rest of the forest. They are stuck on this concept that "both sides are equally bad," which, to me, only proves just how easy life has been for many of them (and probably will continue to be, even if/when Trump is re-elected). They are too narcissistic and too coddled to understand that societies cannot function without some compromises. Sigh. Once again, it's gonna be up to us black folks to save the rest of y'all from yourselves. SMDH. The other GOP candidates were easier to pick off this time around for one simple reason: they weren't Donald Trump. Even Ron DeWhatshisface, who is literally just Trump in red boots, was overlooked, because what the GOP base wants is not someone who agrees with Trump, but rather, they want Trump himself; and they will continue to want him until he finally croaks. IOW, they're a cult.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
It wouldn't shock me either, @Vee. I mean, how many ONS can you write for Brooke Logan, anyway? But, I think that's part of the allure of writing for a show like B&B. Because they basically have used the same long-term document since 1996, there isn't much heavy lifting to do on that show. Even much of the dialogue sounds like stuff MVJ could toss off while prepping her ingredients for her gumbo. It's literally being paid well to do absolutely nothing, lol. I've attempted several times to watch that Locher Room interview with Patrick Mulcahey, but the technical issues drive me nuts. Do they improve as the interview goes on, or do Locher and Mulcahey fight them all the way through? I wish I had an answer for why ABCD cares again about GH all of a sudden. I really do. No way do I see this as a sign that ABCD is reinvesting in soaps in any significant way. Maybe they're gearing up to transition the show over to Hulu with Disney Plus Costco? Or maybe they just want GH to go out on top? Again, I wish I had the answer.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Same. Between this news and , I get the impression that ABCD knows that GH is in trouble and is doing what they can BTS to fix it. Not because they love GH so much, but probably because they don't have anything ready to replace it at the moment. IMO, Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor wanted to be like Bill Bell, telling big storylines with a "slow burn," but the problem was that their characters weren't complex enough to sustain the pacing. In turn, much of their run became exercises in tedium. (In a way, I'm glad Frank Valentini keeps the scenes under 90 seconds, because that helps create tension and suspense where there clearly is none. If they ran any longer, I think viewers would be ready to commit mass suicide). Obviously, I'm pleased that Patrick Mulcahey is returning to GH as Co-HW. Next to Douglas Marland, he's my all-time favorite soap scribe (and part of my "dream writing staff" for my hypothetical soap, along with Victor Miller, Frank Salisbury and Wisner Washam). And I'm sure ABCD and FV had to make certain concessions in order to get him to sign on, too. Otherwise, why would he return to this industry at all, let alone as a Co-HW, let alone to GH? So, for now, I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude. If he and Elizabeth Korte can turn the ship around and not brook any interference from FV or from the network, then fantastic. If they can't...? Well, knowing what I know about how TPTB operate to this day, I'll be disappointed, but I won't hold it against them, lol. Listen, if Korte and Mulcahey can make the likes of Esme, Cancer Girl, Billy Joel Cassadine, Game Show Host Drew Cain and whichever character Michael Easton is playing these days even a little bit interesting, they will have won half the battle!
