I am. I'm getting a little frustrated with it, to be honest. Mindy only interacts with the same 10 people or so (Bill, Lizzie, Rick, Billy, Jonathan, Holly, Phillip, Beth, rival Alex, Mel, Leah to an extent) all the time. She needs to interact with more of the canvas, including big couples like Josh/Reva, Otalia, and Danny/Michelle, and the Coopers. Cooper-haters will be happy to know there hasn't been a single Cooper family scene that I can recall, just brief mentions.

I am so jealous! I wish I could see this! Also, I thought the Masoods were Pakistani.

Quick AW Today ( http://www.anotherworldtoday.com ) update: As of the latest episode posted, Cecile DePoulignac has been murdered! This has split fan opinion on whether it's a brave move or right up there with Maggie DePriest killing Frankie (although Frankie is actually back from the dead now). Also, Kevin Thatcher, who has been mentioned in this thread recently, is in the AW Today text story as Kevin Fowler (the name of his dead uncle, which he took on). Kevin is involved with Amanda and representing Grant in his custody battle for Kirkland. Kevin vowed revenge on the Frames/Matthewses for sending him from relative to relative (including Aunt Janet who has been mentioned in this thread, because she couldn't have children) when he was younger, after Sally died and Catlin coluldn't take care of him anymore because Brittany was jealous. Kevin is also involved with TeleNext's GL continuation as a lawyer handling adoption for Rick and Mindy. Meanwhile, the AW Today Twitter roleplay is also still going strong. The Matthewses feature prominently in that. A tweet limit of 10-tweets-per-character-per-day has been established to make it easier to keep up. TeleNext has also now set up a Facebook page for AW Today.

Awww ... Well she's already been written off in the UK so don't cancel because of that.

It is shown about five years behind (and falling further behind) on some PBS stations. Near-current episodes are available as pay-per-view from Dish network. I have access to neither. The local PBS in Austin does not show EastEnders.

P&G Productions claims to still be working on making GL a web video series, or somehow otherwise keep GL alive beyond just text/Twitter form. The effort has been confirmed over Twitter by a PGP employee, Dave Knox, who met with TeleNext about it. Frank Dicopoulos has also continued to say that P&G has been working on something. It was also referred to in an email by Lucas Watson, a P&G exec. But that doesn't mean anything will happen ... And they don't want fans emailing them or doing anything else yet ... But still there is hope.

I guess it just comes down to for me, I can't see how it's ever pointless for a mother to visit her child, no matter how strained the relationship. Aren't we always complaining on American soaps about how so-and-so's obscure mother (far less central a figure than Peggy Mitchell) didn't show up for their funeral, engagement, wedding, or when they were having a bad time?

I love it that she will be back for special appearances! I disagree that there's no point in her coming back occasionally. I see it as kind of like how Ethel would come back to visit Dot -- those were such warm fuzzy moments.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Ah, I see. Yeah, execution (pacing, setup, interweaving/integration, physical affection shown) seems to be the main problem that is coming up in the disgruntled comments people are making in this thread. That's probably why I can't tell from just reading episode synopses - from a removed, summary level, the stories seem fine. Oh wow, really? I never noticed before. EastEnders transitions of producers seemed to flow so smoothly when I was a regular viewer in the 90s-early 2000s. Then five years later, you could look back and go OMG half the cast has changed, but it was never jarring on screen. I hope this transition can be just as smooth.

Needs overhauling? Not according to the two people quoted by Sylph immediately above your post. Their comments jive with my feeling from reading the synopses that the show just needs some tweaking, not a big overhaul. Ben, were you thinking of Kate Harwood maybe?

Not sure what you mean? Louise Berridge took over from John Yorke when the show was doing great - no flack, no bad press. Hutchison was after her. If one disagrees with the blog post that she was too focused on character history and on pleasing Internet fans, then the other reason the blog post gives for the show's dip in LB's time were down to external factors outside her control - Dalip Tahil (Dan Ferreira) being denied a work visa and Kacey Ainsworth being pregnant resulting in rewrites. I feel bad for her and wish she had stayed. I thought the Ferreiras and, especially, the Moons were super-interesting, so I'll always be grateful to her for them. Not sure what to think of this new producer, not having ever seen Hollyoaks.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
My interpretation was that he was just explaining what he meant by "ensemble show," not trying to prove anything. The implication is that EastEnders once supposedly featured the same main characters every episode, with no rotation. I don't remember it being that way though.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Fascinating! Interesting that the blog writer thinks Louise Berridge paid too much attention to pleasing the minority of the fans on the Internet message boards and to referencing character history. Kathleen Hutchison sounds like she was horrible! That's hilarious and horrifying about the writers who were all suddenly too busy to write for EastEnders under her because of the working environment and tone she set. Yay for John Yorke ... On another note, I'm disappointed that Alan doesn't seem to be coming back with the rest of the Jacksons. Without Alan, they wouldn't *be* the Jacksons, literally.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Aww, Peggy is leaving? The show will survive it though, she was gone for a couple years before. EastEnders: E20 seems like a cool idea! I like that they're using actual young writers for it. I bet they will block global viewing on the website though. I think there's a tendency to look back on the 90s with rose-colored glasses. Things like Cindy arranging a hitman to kill Ian and changing her mind at the last minute but not being able to stop it were "shock" stunts. There are several times when I was watching EastEnders in the mid-90s that I remember thinking, "This is so random, characters keep changing their minds for no reason, if this were an American soap it would be torn to shred on the message boards I go to." Also characters would show up and then disappear for weeks in the 90s too, like Lloyd Tavernier. EastEnders has always had faults but still been great soap. Nothing I'm reading is making me think the show is off the rails. That's great news about the Jacksons coming back!

LOL. CBS and SOD should have spent the money they are wasting on mailing the newsletter to you and others, and on the offer, on investing in and promoting Guiding Light during its run instead of cutting GL's budget and ignoring it. I wish I had your strength in boycotting CBS ... I was going to do it (other than continuing to support ATWT), but Big Brother ended up sucking me back in over the summer. I don't plan on watching anything else on CBS and hopefully I can stick to that.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Well there was the Sam/Ricky/Natalie triangle then when Kim Medcalf was in the role ... Ricky had an affair with Natalie because she was out of love with Barry, rekindling the affair he had with Natalie before, but then he and Sam rediscovered how they were each other's first loves so that ended the affair with Natalie when Natalie found out about it and Natalie left the Square. Sam didn't do much with Ricky after she found out about Natalie too, but it happening did show to me the Sam/Ricky love was still there. I only get to read synopses on the EastEnders website now, I don't get to see the show anymore, so I didn't know how Daniella Westbrook's facial expressions are coming across. I didn't even know she had a tragic car accident, OMG. I just had read about a drug habit or something like that. In pictures I'm liking that she looks so old now - I always like when EastEnders is more gritty and real, as opposed to when it has fake beautiful people.

How is Sam an odd character to bring back? She's a core Mitchell, along with Grant and Phil. These later cousin upstarts are the "odd" folks. I'm glad they are exploring her history with Ricky. The Sam/Ricky/Bianca triangle is great, both Ricky's true loves at one time. I still remember watching in the early 90s when Sam left Ricky because he was just a mechanic and she thought she had posh Clive. Ricky tried to block her from leaving the room ... Sam was just disgusted by him after she'd had a taste of the high life with Clive. Cool that the original Sam is back!

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
They had a fair amount of scenes about self-image (Remy's relationship to his family / whether Christina was "fun"), and about their personal goals or how to figure out what those goals were. Remy talked about loving helping people as an EMT and not wanting to be a doctor, whereas Christina always wanted to be a doctor. Christina encouraged Remy to see that it's better to do what you love, than what other people expect that you should love to do. Christina affirmed to Remy that staying an EMT was not a waste of his potential - kind of like an argument I've had before with my own family about my job. The whole "give my space at Johns Hopkins to Christina" angle was neither cheap nor shallow to me, albeit not something that could actually happen in that way in real life. Even staying fake married at first was meant to help Christina pursue her dream - money for med school. It wasn't some random humor. Later Remy kept the diamonds to try to help Christina's goal of having a day care center when she realized she couldn't afford medical school yet because she lost her job (but ended up using them to help Clayton after Clayton lost all his money because of James's Ponzi scheme, a great reversal of the "failed son, judgmental father" relationship they had had to that point). Remy and Christina losing their jobs also had the show reflecting the economy, and I liked that. I have lost a job before but not told someone for weeks, so that was a real, relatable issue when Remy hid it from Christina. Seeing Remy talk to Christina's grandmother at the hospital was an eary golden moment of their storyline to me. Beyond this, Christina was simply full of life and well-integrated in Springfield with her friendship with Daisy/Ashlee/James and being a physical therapist for Shayne and Olivia at times. Remy's scenes with Shayne were also good. In one sentence, I would say that being an often fun, lively couple with nevertheless relatable, identifiable issues doesn't make the treatment of those issues cheap or shallow. There was enough depressing drama from other couples.

It feels wrong that I now need to post about GL in the cancelled soap section. Who's following the official PGP/TeleNext continuaton, Mindy Lewis's Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis ? Even if you don't read it daily, please consider following to show TeleNext you are still interested in Guiding Light. The story picked up after the "one year later." Sarah is jealous/upset that Lizzie and Bill's baby (Alana Grace Lewis) is a girl, not a boy as they expected. Phillip wants to give away all his money, and didn't talk it over with Beth first, which upset her. Mindy and Rick got married and are trying for a baby despite her previous miscarriages. Josh and Reva are still away somewhere. Also, not sure if anyone posted this already somewhere, but Marvel Comics put up their Guiding Light comic story for free on their Marvel Digital Comics site at http://marvel.com/digitalcomics/titles/GUIDING_LIGHT.2009.1 as a mark of respect for GL coming to an end. I already bought it and read it in 2006, but figured many had not so might be interested to see it now that it's free. The story is strictly okay, and the artwork for Olivia and Coop doesn't look like them at all, but still an interesting piece of history.

Hmm, that would have been a neat idea to use a globe! For the latest on Another World Today twitter version, see this promo on a fan-produced website (not mine), linked below ... On October 31, "Who Really Killed Sally Frame?" will be revealed: http://www.anotherworldroleplay.com Daily synopses of the twitter action and excerpts from Sally Frame's diary can also be found at the above website. Don't miss as the first big umbrella story of AW Today Twitter comes to a head! Meanwhile from the text episodes ... - Jenna was revealed to be Donna and Carl's daughter but died from preeclampsia. - Cass found out that Lucas is alive. - Jamie and Marley got married to keep custody of Kirkland. - Alice Matthews is flirting with Spencer Harrison, saying he reminds her of Steve Frame. - Grant's lawyer Kevin Fowler is really Kevin Thatcher, bounced around from family to family after his mother Sally Frame died and seeking revenge on Alice as well as the other Matthewses/Frames/Corys. - And much more!

CarlD2, glad you are still interested. Don't know about whether the Hardings were named after Harding Lemay - sounds quite possible! There is now an officially sanctioned Twitter role-play companion to the text stories which is really taking off. You gotta check it out! You can sign up to play any character from the show's 35-year run who is not in the main text story. EricJohn, a fan on the TeleNext board, is voluntarily posting summaries of the daily Twitter action. Already in four days since the Twitter role-play was lauched, so much has happened. Just a sample -- there's going to be a Matthews family July 4th BBQ, Alex Cory has come out as gay, Mitch Blake and Cindy Brooke are married, Nick and Remy are raising his son Nico with Angela Corelli who has been stalking them, Ricky Matthews is in a law practice with Wally Curtin, Cory Ewing is trying to find out about his birth father Robert Delaney (to his mother Clarice's consternation), Sean McKinnon has graduated from college and met great-uncle Vince and great-aunt Mary, Tito Banacek is turning his life around after being released from prison because Grant is alive, MJ McKinnon and Adam Cory are married and Adam caught a white collar criminal, and loads of characters including Cameron Sinclair, Sofia Carlino, Nicole Love, and Lisa Grady are making plans to return to town. Another World is back, and really fulfilling Irna Phillips's vision of showing both the "world of events" and the inner "world of feelings and dreams that we strive for." With the way the characters create their own worlds and then make choices that affect other people's characters, Another World has never more truly shown that "We do not live in this world alone, but in a thousand other worlds." P&G/TeleNext are really being cutting edge with this Twitter thing! Get on board, rest of the soap world.

I'm still reading new episodes of Another World Today every week and still enjoying it! Just not posting anymore here (instead on the TeleNext message board directly) because no one responds here. They finally do have a minority character, GQ Todd, a legacy character (grandson of Grant Todd on one side and Quinn Harding on the other), and have finally mentioned Paulina, so I'm happy on those little quibbles I had before.
