B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
2000 was a HUGE period of the show. Fall with Deacon's arrival plus Kimberly's turn for the dark is high stakes drama and phenomenal acting. IMO; it last untils the arrival of the Latino influx in June 2001 which is too bad because that is one of the last original (!) storylines for the Spectra crew...

Now you are mixing things up in the timeline. Around 2000 there was a shift in stories that at least I didn’t like as much as the previous two years which were pure gold. If I recall correctly, at this time Trent Jones got promoted to co-head writer. By late 2002 Jack Smith got promoted to co-head writer and eventually surpassed Kay Alden in seniority. He became head and she became co-head writer. By 2005 Smith was burnt out due to a family crisis (2004-2005 were uneven…) which lead to the shift to Lynn Marie Latham and the end of the Y&R which we loved and cared for.

Spring/Summer 1998 and onwards until 2000 the show was BETTER than in the previous years, IMO. The - as I remember it - unexpexted longevity of the Phyllis character did indeed change the dynamics of the show slightly. It was so delicious to look at Michelle Stafford playing her tantrums in the apartment set with Joani for months, though.

For everyone watching late 1995/1996 - I would love to hear your thoughts on the stories, characters etc. I have slowed down my watching quite a bit and am still in March 1995 just days before episode #2000. I rewatched 1996 one or two years in its entirety and am ready to jump from Xmas 1995 to Xmas 1996 as soon as Videoland/our gracious Vault angels provide us with the respective episodes...

Thanks a million - a dream come true to have airdates for 1987-1988 confirmed. As we have all the episodes available, it really just depended on knowing how many episodes aired in each month/year - I can now start to do the database like you did for Days. @all: I just submitted various corrections to IMDb - the airdates should soon match with the actual CBS airdates in consideration of the confirmed blackout dates/preemptions. This is splendid!

Bold returns
B&B and Jacob Young had a fallout before (back in 1999). He happily returned to B&B after AMC's cancellation. Never say never in the entertainment world... That said: dropping RIck and Maya was one of the super stupid decisions in the 2010s on B&B - alongside killing off Aly. The show had such a strong momentum going (2014-2015) and totally killed it.

Sets "Problems" On All The Soaps
And the super hideous „decor“ and the producers choice to have the windows with 100% closed view because they don’t want to bother with a proper backdrop. It’s a supposed to be garden house - so what’s the point then!?

I like Taylor's Arabian Night a lot more than I expected to in rewatch. Sure it is cheesy at times and the orphan stuff is laying it thick but it is not nearly as problematic as I imagined it to be in 2023. I loved it back then and still like the plot. Actually, the buildup in some parts of the story should been bigger. Taylor was revealed to be alive rather quickly and she sure got used to her new life fast. And the Morroccans surely are welcoming to this stranger. The royal court is portrayed mure nicer than it is in reality (if you have checked your gossip news in recent years and earthquake news reports in 2023). LOL As for 1994 in general: there is quite some stuff going on but focus and climax moments are missing. Backburning Sheila did not work at all. The Jay Garvin stuff happned literally in 5 seconds. Ivana made a decent villain with moral core, yet they hardly played her as such. Dylan & Jessica were super bland but did not eat the show that much. However, that court story was suuuuuuuuper bad. IMO; the show reeks network interference: there are just too many sprinkles of Melrose Place, Models Inc and BH90210 in this year all of a sudden. CBS obvisouly demanded a de-agigng of the cast and stories, IMO.

Zach is mentioned about 3-4 times after his departure in 1992. A couple of times when Jack suffers his heart attack and Taylor is still considered "dead" (referenced by Stephanie and others...) and in 1997 when Felicia returns to town, the breakup from Zach is mentioned. And I could swear that when Taylor returns from the dead in 2005, Jack quickly drops a line about Zach. But I could be wrong on this one.

Videoland has made such errors before. As for your "seasons" question: the official YouTube started labelling Fall seasons with 1996-1997 beginning in September 1996. However, those who remember the old cbs.com with tons of recaps and other stuff will remember that the website used Spring seasons decades longer. IMO; they started in 2011 (?) when the show went to HD and CBS switches to Fall renewals of its daytime shows. This also happened before. Suddenly, they remove a lot of content... Therefore we cannot thank our gracious uploaders to the Vault enough - this is a dream come true!

IMO; Bill Bell thought that Caroline's cancer and death was already too much sadness for summertime. Therefore he skipped the funeral. I don't agree with this choice, though. The death scene was AMAZING acting-wise. The whole plot was kinda so-so, IMO. The weird disease which was not disclosed, then Caroline looked way too radiant for a while, Ridge moved on after her death in record speed. I'd say there was room for improvement in this execution even though it was a powerful story which lasting effect for a long time.

The good old days when the show could afford those big group scenes. I really liked that in 2000 most days on B&B lasted for about 20 episodes. There were so many great climax scenes and moments of must-see-storylines. Of course it was ridiculous for the 50+ group to be super invested in CJ&Amber, but it was a welcome excuse to pit Susan Flannery against Darlene Conley. Talk about golden moments. I noticed that, too. I wonder if they just messed up closing credits because NO ONE ever mentioned that Jack Smith was headwriting back then - and it made no sense to have him as interim HW for such a short time frame.

The whole Taylor&Ridge story until James' arrival is picture perfect super couple storytelling. This couple is fresh and the actors have off-the-charts chemistry. Ridge as the grieving widower is always a super difficult moment for the show because the writers never dared to to the logic step: actually write Ridge off for at least a month. In 1990 he drove off with his bike after Caroline's funeral (which we never got so see which was a HUGE let-down, IMO) and was back in love-story a month later. The show still honored Caroline (the garden scene is soooooo beautiful around the first anniversary of this event!), but in general the pacing was ridiculous in 1990. IMO; the reral stand-out in this time period is Sally/Clarke/Julie. What an amazing storyline! Yep, it was just tragic and shocking at the same time. Adrienne Franntz was the ultimate Brad Bell pet, yet suddenly he lost interest in her in 2004 and then created this suuuuuper weird Big Bear storyline. I did not like Amber after 2003, but this was just random. Indeed, Amber's time on Y&R was a pleasant surprise. She worked well under all the headwriters there and I never had issue with her. I LOVED Amber & Daniel. Her return to B&B didn't bother me. A redux of a WTD-story and the vansihing act into thin air with Baby Rosey (?) was unneeded and made the whole thing superfluous. Agreed! Deacon & Macy were so HOT. And summer 2003 was AMAZING until Brad Bell simply decided to ditch everything that was working. Bringing on Sydney Penny as Samantha, making Brian Gaskill as Ozzy Marone front and center, focussing on Massimo and Jackie (poor Lesley-Anne Down!) and therefore killing all momentum in Rick/Amber/Deacon/Macy was mind-blowing.
