B&B June 2024 Spoilers
If B&B is consistent about anything, it's being inconsistent!

B&B June 2024 Discussion Thread
I'm still not convinced that Bill is the daddy. I think Li set up that DNA test because she doesn't want the real truth to come out. I feel like Poppy had potential as a character but the writing is ALL OVER THE PLACE. And, now with the homeless guy making googly eyes at her...sigh. Also, Luna (I do like the actress), is WAAAAY too perfect. She needs some sort of edge to her. Perfect = boring. LOL at Paris answering to Douglas' mommy call. So random. First, we haven't seen Paris since when...November. And, now we're supposed to believe that she somehow got engaged to Thomas in the past few months??? What would have been much more interesting would be if Thomas had returned to Paris engaged to Nicole Avant, Zende's ex-wife for which we never got an explanation for on why they divorced. At least that would tie more characters into the story. Paris, due to the writing, has suffered from "Luna-ism"...so perfect she's boring as all hell.

ALL: Resting long term characters
Bringing Jack on as RJ's rival is a no brainer IMO. I can't believe they haven't done it. Can you imagine the drama...Brooke's son that she didn't give birth to??? He could be all about revenge, drama, and messing up people's lives...think Jonathan back on GL.

DAYS: Who’s worse Higley or Carlivati
I watched DAYS for many years but finally gave up not long after the switch to Peacock...although the switch was not the reason I stopped. I started to become disenchanted with the show when Ben, the serial killer, became the hero after "taking some medicine." If they really wanted to keep the actor, they should have had him switch roles sooner or play Ben's twin. To get all of the characters to forgive a serial killer and make him "the good guy" was just too much of a stretch for me. I've liked some of RC work on OLTL and even some of what he did when he first started on DAYS. I appreciate that he likes to use the veteran actors and tries to incorporate history at times. I loved the introduction of Gwen (and Cady as Jennifer!) but then it went off the rails with Laura being killed (WTF?) and Gwen not being developed for long-term. It would have been so good to have a Abby and Gwen rivalry that went on for years which would have kept Jack and Jenn tied to story...but I digress. The things that finally turned me off the show were: 1. All the false conflict started by mask wearing. It was so stupid and just a lazy way to try and create conflict. It also made all the characters involved look like idiots. Don't even get me started on Marlena, Kayla, and Kate being "put on ice." 2. RC doesn't seem to understand that the Dimeras worked better in small doses. They came in and caused some conflict at times which worked, but under his writing, they have eaten the show to the detriment of other families we actually cared about (Hortons, Bradys, Carvers). Do we really need characters such as Stefan, for instance??? Chad works because of the actor that plays him, and that character should just be used as a contrast to EJ. We don't need all of the others. Kristen is a cartoon at this point. Johnny has never been really developed as a character. The only Dimera I would advocate for adding would be Theo as a Carver/Dimera. There's a lot of possibility there to have a character torn between two very different worlds as Lexi was also. 3. The dismantling of the Hortons also turned me off. To me, they've always been the heart of the show since I watched it as a child. But, now hardly of them are around anymore. Who's left at this point? Julie who pops up on occasion? Sarah who rarely leans into being a Horton? Maggie who's being written as more of a Kiriakis at this point? RC wrote out soooo many characters who have some Horton roots....Abby, JJ, Allie, Lucas, Will, Hope, Jennifer, Eli, Shawn, Ciara, Claire. 4. The obsessive need to make certain characters work that aren't working...looking at you Alex and Leo. Those two have taken up SOOOOO much airtime that could be spent on developing much more interesting characters and stories.

ALL: Resting long term characters
I think British soaps, such as Hollyoaks, are much better at this. They will drop a character whose story has stalled in a blink of an eye and bring in new blood. There's been a definite lack of building up new, younger characters on ALL the shows as other have mentioned. The result is that the shows are not changing with the times. It doesn't mean you drop all your legacy characters, but you give newer characters the same amount of screentime and development to balance it out. I loved the comment about Y&R being anything but young. It's so true, and what does that mean for its future? The show should be renamed The Old and the Tired. Almost everyone is over 40 and filthy rich. Where's the conflict in THAT? A character that I've believed needs to be rested for quite a while now is Ridge on B&B. TK is a wonderful actor, but the character is so self-centered, overplayed and not interesting at this point. Can you imagine how much story the show could get out of Ridge's death...especially if Steffy blamed it on Brooke for some reason? It could send their rivalry into the stratosphere, reenergize the show, send it in a new direction and free Brooke of the albatross that is Ridge. I also think Liam needs a rest. He, just like Ridge, comes off as a misogynistic a-hole that has bounced back and forth between two woman to the point I don't care anymore. On Y&R, characters like Adam, Chelsea, and Abby all need a break, too. They've run their course and are just on repeat at this point. None of them really serve a point. Again, decent actors but tired characters. Bring in some new and YOUNG characters who aren't a Newman or an Abbott. Those two families have intermarried so many times it's nuts (looking at you, too, Brady and Hortons on DAYS). I sort of gave up on DAYS after many years once all the mask wearing and sci-fi stuff took over. The show has lost a lot of its heart the past few years IMO. But, there are soooo many characters that I think could use a break on that show (Steve, Kayla, Rafe, Stefan, Eric) or just need to drive off a cliff (Leo, Alex).

Y&R June 2024 Spoilers
Wow...so apparently TSJ is out as Tucker per his X feed. I wasn't the biggest fan of the character, but he was the first male actor Eileen Davidson has had chemistry with for a long time. I enjoyed them together before the "Ashley meltdown."

B&B: Legacy Character Cast
It would be awesome if Will was Bold's first openly gay character. It'd drive Bill nuts if his son was #1- gay and #2- wanted to work in fashion at Forrester. Alas, we'll never get anything that complex or good.

Ratings From the 90's
I wonder what would have happened if NBC had fallen through on one of those proposed DAYS spin-offs when the show was red hot during that time and scheduled it right after DAYS and bumping AW to the slot Sunset Beach eventually got.

NBC Daytime
This is interesting to read. I adored SB for much of its run, but I feel one of the things that did it in at the end was the fact that the cast was so small for an hour show. So, when popular characters left (such as Cruz & Eden) it was hard to fill that spot by pivoting to other well-established characters.

Ratings From the 90's
And, it's sad, but DAYS rise in the ratings in the 90s never helped AW. I wonder why.

Young & Restless - May 2024 Episode Rankings
I love the old school legacy characters, too, but the show has GOT to start investing in some younger cast members and stories. It's mind boggling. As someone else mentioned, the show has just turned into constant conversations about random companies (which no one seems to know what these companies even do) and who works where. Yawn.

I don't know why they ended Daniel and Lily. Those two had chemistry! Now what is Lily going to do? To put conflict into their relationship, one of Lily's disapproving twins should have come back to town. Maybe Mattie, and she could have ended up in Kyle's orbit. Wow! Elena's storyline is ON FIRE! I can't wait to see what she does(Not) do next!

B&B June 2024 Discussion Thread
All the Steffy/Hope/Finn stuff was FF for me. I watched the Katie/Poppy scenes. Poor Heather Thom. She deserves better. First, of all, Poppy is right. Katie, this ain't your home anymore! This show skips so many story beats that things always fall flat. MAYBE...this would have worked if we saw Katie was unhappy in her "relationship" with Carter that we never see. MAYBE if she also had some sort of reason to distrust Poppy. MAYBE if she had somewhat reconnected with Bill lately. But, NOPE.

IMO, too, KKL is TOTALLY being wasted. She's capable of so much more. I think ONE of things that's missing is that she needs a true antagonist which in my mind is a "younger Brooke" who sets her sights on RJ, sort of the relationship that Brooke had with Stephanie. RJ and Luna are on a one-way ticket to Snoozetown. We need a younger, scheming social climber trying to make her way the top and trying to get Luna out of the way. Brooke would recognize "herself" in the young woman and work to keep this upstart out of her son's life. And, IMO, Brooke is so much more interesting without Ridge. I think she even worked better with Bill back in the day. I'd LOVE to see her in a real relationship with a much younger man. They had the potential there with her and Hollis...but as we know, B&B loves to kill any potential! I'm still pissed that the show killed what could have been an interesting triangle between RJ/Luna/Zende and creating a true rivalry between RJ and Zende. Now, they've basically ruined the Zende character.

Y&R June 2024 Discussion Thread
I wonder why the character has never really worked. Writing? The actresses who have played her? But, she always seemed like more of an afterthought which is really sad since she's Ashley's only child. Even the relationship with Devon, there's just no real chemistry, nothing. Of course, besides Hillary, Devon has never had a viable love interest. And, now Dominic has the most convoluted backstory ever on his birth...and that's saying a lot for a soap character.

Just say with is Luna's father at this point, and why is Li so obsessed over it? Again, people just repeat the same lines...day after day. I wonder what the actors think at this point. I'm sure many are thankful to have steady employment, but even they have to realize what crap the writing has been. They have to repeat these lines about toes, mints, and staplers!

ALL: Who do you think would be a good writer for the remaining soaps?
I don't know why daytime is so adverse to bringing in flesh blood at this point when it comes to writers. We need fresh perspectives!

GENERAL HOSPITAL: May 2024 Episode Count
I do wonder if Sonny is really a character the core audience cares that much about at this point...an aging mobster? He's just kind of on repeat when it comes to his stories.

Sheila is so overplayed at this point, too. They should have really killed her IMO and then brought on the daughter she had with Massimo. A character who could stir things up with a clean slate. Right now, the show is missing that type of character. Everyone just walks around like robots repeating the same lines over and over.

DAYS: June 2024 Spoilers
I hope it's long-term. I checked out of DAYS about a year ago after watching for many, many years. The show just became overrun with Dimeras and the over the top, sci-fi stuff (all that mask wearing!) finally turned me off for good. Plus, the Hortons basically disappeared.

Even though the ages were realllllllly off, I enjoyed her take on Minx.
