Anyone know exactly when Mamie debuted? I have a feeling that for awhile, she was referred to but not seen. I noticed that happen in two of these "lost eps". Same thing in the May '82 ep that used to be on YT, when Patty says Mamie was very welcoming after she moved in. The first synopsis mention I see is after John and Jill's marriage, when Jill and Mamie argue over household finances.

I read this quote too, but it confused me. From '78-'79, Jill tricked Stuart Brooks into marriage by pretending she was pregnant, and tried and failed to get a divorce settlement from him. For the rest of '79, before BD left, she went back to plotting with Derek how to fleece Katherine of her money. So... seems like Jill of the late '70s was already a schemer - not sure why BD was so thrown off when she came back.

Looking through the '82 SOD recaps - pretty certain they didn't leave town together. After this March episode just posted, I only see one more mention of Karen in the recaps, when she finally signs Andy's divorce papers. Lucas stays on through summer '82 to help Lorie with her revenge plot against Victor (which she winds up abandoning when JLB quits). The 9/26/82 recap details Lorie leaving town and saying goodbye to Lucas, but I can't find any mention of him after that, so who knows if he got an official farewell scene? The only person left for him to possibly say goodbye to was Leslie. Also can't find any farewell mentions for Chris or Greg.

Patty was still on the show for most of 1984, after she left Jack's orbit. She was brought into the Danny/Traci/Lauren story. Danny gave Patty hope that they could be together, but Danny was in the sham marriage with Traci, because Traci wanted it kept secret that she was pregnant with Professor Tim's baby. I found the SOD recap (dated 12/4/84) covering Patty's departure! "Patty has come to the realization that there is nothing left for her in GC. Danny and Traci appear to be getting closer to each other with each passing day. Besides, Danny blames Patty for Traci's accident. Arriving at the conclusion that her relationship with Danny is over, Patty tells her brother she's leaving town. Paul attempts to talk her out of the decision, but to no avail. Patty has a very touching farewell with her mother. It comes as a complete shock to Mary that her daughter is leaving, but Patty promises to return as soon as she can straighten out her personal life"

Just watched episode 2 - I love Deborah Adair's Jill, as evidenced by my avatar! I think she ranks as my favorite Jill of all. Agreed with @DRW50 that DA's Jill scenes with Liz didn't quite nail the mother-daughter dynamic. DA's Jill has a more refined, patrician way of speaking, and Liz is less refined... she'll leave the "g" off of words, like "thinkin" instead of "thinking". Jill was raised in the lower middle-class home by Liz, so this disparity doesn't really add up. But regardless, they're both fantastic. Interesting for Liz to note that Jack is older than Jill - not sure if I ever knew that. Or maybe this fact was "forgotten" once BD took back the role. I do believe that Jill is in love with John Abbott. I also believe she loves his money! How ironic that Jack is so afraid that Jill will take some control of Jabot. She eventually does... but only because of the scandal that ensued after he slept with her, lol! I thought the Claire/janitor scene would end with Robert discovering them... not with Claire choking the janitor!! This fits in with the "gothic" tone that sometimes permeated YR from '79-'81. This is the first time I'm seeing the Carolyn character, and she seems like a snoozefest. Kevin also, while cute, is milquetoast. I think this ep is right when MTS leaves for maternity leave? Maybe this deal she made with God to leave Kevin is why she disappears for a few months.

Agreed... the scenes, while beautifully styled and set-designed, feel so outdated, like from a '60s musical. I found the Brooks child actor to be the most engaging, which is a problem. Dennis Cole is a blank slate... a Ken doll. Victoria Mallory is trying her hardest, but I guess she is just lacking charisma... that "it factor". And it really takes away from these scenes to know that Lance soon leaves town alone, while Leslie starts a short-lived, ill-fated romance with Robert Laurence before also leaving town. I've read all the SOD recaps from that time, and just reading everything about the Stevens family was sooooo boring. I saw the one New Years Eve 1982 ep with Bobbi, aka Barbara (April's twin), and she was not a good actress. I really enjoyed Cynthia Eilbacher, though, when April came back in '93-'94.

Here’s a recap of the other episode I watched at Paley – “Danny and Cricket’s Wedding in Maui” from November 1990. I actually found this ep pretty boring, bc I’m not a big Danny/Cricket fan or a Rex/Leanna fan. There wasn’t much content to the wedding scenes… just how happy and lucky D&C are, and D&C reminiscing about their moms, which isn’t too meaningful as we never saw Danny’s mom, and Jessica wasn’t around that long. Also, the Jack/Nikki/Victor/Ashley scenes were just filler, no new developments. The highlight was definitely all the gorgeous Maui scenery! = = = = = Nikki crying, with Jack. She has a big decision to make about her back pain. The medication isn’t helping any more. Dr. Noah told her surgery is the only option. Nikki can’t discount the risks associated with surgery. Jack comforts her. Victor arrives at the door. Rex finds Danny at the Maui seashore. Danny talks about how happy he is. Rex says Danny has a better idea of what love is than Rex does. Danny says Rex should be proud of what he’s made of his life. Rex says his proudest accomplishment is his two children, and that Danny will be a great father. Danny wishes his mom could be at the wedding. Nina and Gina help Cricket get her makeup on. Rex putting his tux on in the hotel room. Leanna upset that she still doesn’t have her luggage. She calls a luggage rep at the airport and is so rude. The rep says they’re still looking for her bag. Two hotel workers bring in a mysterious package that Leanna had requested. Jack lets Victor in, reluctantly, and leaves Victor with Nikki. Victor wants to confirm what the holiday plans are, re: the children. Victor notices that Nikki is upset but she deflects. Says it’s nothing to do with her marriage to Jack. Limo pulls up to beautiful seaside church – Scott opens the door and helps Cricket out. Rex offers to buy Leanna a new dress. She refuses – she doesn’t want to be obligated to Rex. She reluctantly agrees to buy her own dress. Victor proposes that everyone (Victor, Ashley, Jack, Nikki, and the kids) spend time together for the holiday. Nikki says she’ll think about it. Scott and Cricket inside the beautiful church, talking about how happy she is, blah blah. She believes this marriage “is forever”. Scott agrees it will be forever (more like 4 years). Cricket sad her mom won’t be there. Cricket feels her presence. Cricket brought a pic of her. Scott leaves her alone to reflect on her mother. Cricket looks at pic and “talks” to her mother. Nina and Scott come in with the ring. Someone bangs on Leanna’s door. Big intimidating muscly man has her suitcase, which looked similar to his. He yells at her that she took his bag. They switch bags. He doesn’t trust her that she didn’t take his stuff. He finds his wrestling cape and is happy - his cape reads “Jumbo Man”. Danny, Gina and Rex before the ceremony. So happy blah blah. Reverend walks up, and the band members as well. Nina, David and Leanna arrive. Leanna acts dramatic and Danny makes a face. Ashley greets Victor back at the apartment. He fills her in on the conversation with Nikki. Ashley counsels that it’s not Victor’s role anymore to solve Nikki’s problems. Gina sings the wedding processional song (don’t know the song… “Starting here, starting now..”) Ceremony takes place. Nikki tells Jack she doesn’t want Victor to know about her back issues. Everyone arrives at the luau reception. David wishes Cricket and Danny well. They don’t look suspicious or bothered by him. Rex gives a toast. Luau dancers perform. Jack tells Nikki they’ll have a great Christmas. Ashley asks Victor if he’ll spend the whole evening thinking of Nikki? Victor says no and they start making out and head up to take a shower together. END

We were speculating a few pages back when Jeanne Cooper might have gone to rehab. I would guess this ep was pre-rehab. She didn't look very healthy. As others have commented, I find Victoria Mallory to be lovely, but not the strongest actress. Her acting isn't layered - she just plays the one emotion that the scene seems to be about. i think this was right before Brenda Dickson exited, and I could tell...she seemed unengaged. And I don't get the appeal of Joe Ladue, looks or acting-wise! The episode highlight was definitely the creepy Nikki and Rose scenes. MT was already demonstrating great acting chops.

Hi everyone - I made it back to Paley Center NYC again. I'm running out of old YR eps to watch, but found a couple more. This one is titled "Nikki, Rose, and Vince dump the dead body". No date given, but I'm pretty sure it's from very late in 1979, right before the show expanded to an hour. There is a cast listing in the credits, but it's not the full cast, only the cast appearing in this episode. YRfan23 - the other one I watched was Danny and Cricket's wedding... recap coming soon Here's my summary: Derek at the Chancellor mansion - he has a flashback to his conversation with Jill, where he tells Jill that her plan to have him sleep with Katherine backfired. Jill says she is worse off than he is - stuck living at home with her mother, unsure if Liz will kick her out. Derek asks her - do you want me to stop pretending I want to be married to Katherine? Derek then has another flashback, to his conversation in the mansion with Katherine, in which he asks her to burn the audiotape. He says - if she will burn the tape, it will prove he trusts her. Katherine says she does trust him - but that she's keeping the tape. It's a symbol to her, of her love and trust. Leslie asks Jonas if he is satisfied with the type of music she is playing. He said sure. She is annoyed that he isn't more communicative. Jonas says she is more lively since he told her to dye her hair blonde. She says she doesn't feel like a blonde. He calls her "Chris". She can't remember anything about her past. But she likes the "new woman" Jonas is molding her into. Lucas with Vanessa and Casey. Lucas can't believe Leslie called Vanessa. Vanessa said Leslie called to reassure Lucas, that she's all right, and to say how much she misses Lucas. Vanessa walks out. Lucas is mad that Leslie didn't say when she's coming home or where she is, and doesnt think his marriage has much hope. Casey thinks Lucas is too fatalistic. Rose pulls up with her car outside the hotel employee entrance. Nikki and Vince carry the "john" out to the car. Nikki wants to go home but Rose pulls her in. They drive off. Derek and Jill at dinner. He tells her that their last meeting was audiotaped. He doesn't know who taped them... it wasn't Katherine, but Katherine does have the tape (but hasn't listened to it). Derek's plan is to make a new tape, and replace it with the first tape. She is skeptical but needs her help. She agrees. Derek almost knocks over a water glass (don't think that was in the script Nikki and Vince in backseat with corpse, Rose driving. Rose has the heat blasting to keep the corpse warm, so cops can't figure out the time of death. Rose tells Nikki this is all her fault. They dump the corpse in an alley (this is filmed on location). Car pulls away. A young man walks up to the corpse and steals his wallet. Right then, cops pulls up and chase the young man. END. Cast: Derek Thurston: Joe LaDue Kay Chancellor: Jeanne Cooper Jill Foster: Brenda Dickson Leslie Brooks Prentiss: Victoria Mallory Jonas: Jerry Lacy Lucas Prentiss: Tom Ligon Vanessa Prentiss: KT Stevens Dr. Casey Reed: Roberta Leighton Vince Holliday: Alex Rebar Rose DeVille: Darlene Conley Nikki Reed Foster: Melody Thomas Walter Addison: Paul Savior

Nothing about JLB or the Brooks at all! (I did skip the opening and ending chapters, assuming they were more about Jeanne's personal life, so I may have missed something) I think she was serious about Felipe She spent awhile recounting the whole story of how Katherine fell overboard on the boat she was on with Derek... washed up onshore and met Felipe, and they fell in love. She felt Katherine could have spent the rest of her days with Felipe, but she got an infection, and Felipe had to bring her to a mainland hospital for treatment. He realized their worlds were too different and said goodbye to her. Sounds like Jeanne enjoyed the story, but I have a feeling it was one of the early-80s misfire stories, after the show expanded to an hour. Oh! Is your vid the "Gina sings the YR theme" 1983? That is so cool that you got a shout-out!

Jeanne was mystified why MTS wouldn't talk to her! Though clearly Ed Scott disliking Jeanne had something to do with it. Nikki and Katherine continued to have scenes together but once the camera stopped rolling, MTS would not interact. After two years, Ed Scott was lighting a scene to be shot between Nikki and Katherine. He was only focused on MTS' lighting, and literally kept Jeanne in the dark. According to Jeanne, maybe this made MTS felt bad? MTS said "Ed - what about Mother's lighting"? From that moment, MTS resumed the relationship with Jeanne, and I guess that was the end of it. Speaking of Jeanne and GL... she mentioned something I ever forgot or never knew about... she and Christian Leblanc appeared on an episode during the very last week of Guiding Light, in small parts. At first, they were just going to be extras, but the writers gave them a few lines. Jeanne and CL did it as a sign of respect for the canceled show.

My library has the e-audiobook for Jeanne’s book, so I listened to it. I enjoyed it but would have liked more of a deep-dive in the YR years, especially the earlier, less-documented years. For example, 1981… I’ve read the SOD recaps for that year, and Katherine was barely on except for meeting Nikki and hiring her gigolo Cash. Was that due to issues in Jeanne’s personal life, or issues on the set? Here are some highlights: - Became best friends with Juliana McCarthy. Was very close with Terry Lester, EB, JW, and Tricia Cast. Sung praises of VR, TLW, KSJ, S Moore, P Weaver, T Bregman, LLB, ED, PB, BMaitland - William Grey Espy welcomed her on her first day. They had co-starred in the movie Kansas City Bomber - Doesn't know why they replaced John Considine with Donnelly Rhodes as Philip - She hooked up a couple times with Donnelly Rhodes! She also hooked up once with Quinn Redeker! - Had a full-on relationship with Beau Kayzer after her divorce! He wanted marriage but Jeanne wasn't ready. - When Katherine went to AA in 1975, Jeanne was a full-blown alcoholic. She went to rehab a few years later when BB insisted. - Gave mostly praise for BD - called her feisty yet talented - Jeanne and Jess didn't like the 2003 mother daughter twist...felt like it changed the dynamic too much - Coached David Hasselhoff when he started as Snapper. David was hired for his good looks and charisma, not his acting ability. She is very fond of him and wishes him the best as he goes through his tabloid dramas. - Doug Davidson and Don Diamont were a pair of offscreen goofballs - Felt Katherine's greatest love was Felipe Ramirez ( from 1980) - Threatened to quit if PB was fired after PBs fight with EB in 1991 - Liked to pinch young co-stars like G Rikaart, J Morrow, B Miller, M Grazidei during dramatic scenes. She stopped to discreetly greet (and pinch) GR as she was walking down the aisle during Katherine's wedding to Murphy. Pinched EB once during a boring scene. EB drove her nuts, because he always would have Victor say the last line in a scene, even if the line wasn't in the script. One time she was able to best him, and have Katherine improv the last line in the scene before the director yelled cut. -Was initially friends with Ed Scott and MTS. MTS even called her “mother”. In the late 80s, MTS suddenly stopped speaking to her for no reason, and Ed was hostile to her. MTS finally started speaking to her again two years later, out of the blue, and the friendship was renewed. - Katherine's first maid, Emma, was around til 1981 when the actress died. Jeanne requested a new maid, and Kate Linder was cast as an unnamed maid in 1982. Jeanne named her Esther. KL pitched a story to BB in '90 in which Katherine would die, and Esther and Kate would inherit the estate! When Jeanne confronted her, KL denied it. - The early ‘90s was a tough period for Jeanne at YR, because besides this KL incident, she felt that Ed Scott wanted her off the show. During this time period, she met Doug Marland (ATWT head writer), who said he would create a new role on his show for Jeanne, and she could work again with Terry who was on the show. Jeanne said yes, because working in New York City with a legend like Doug and her old friend Terry sounded like a dream. But Doug soon after died of a heart attack. She always wondered what could have been.
