Thanks @YRfan23! I'm traveling this week but had to make time to watch this. I'm jumping ahead a bit since I'm currently watching early '93 but everyone's comments made it sound so good - and I'm worried the vid will disappear as it's not unlisted. BE is amazing here! To me, she is the definitive Ashley, as she could portray a wider range of emotions than ED. This is the first time I've seen her play "disturbed Ashley" and she nailed it! Too bad she left at this point. How much time elapsed before Shari Shattuck took over? Comparing what I'm watching now - '93- to this scene - I noticed changes in the production - softer lighting, different camera angles... not necessarily bad, just different.

Haha me too... in both the Claire clips we've seen, she seems like a total psycho. Funny that the Lawrence family winds up happily leaving town together. Interesting how quickly Leslie seems to have moved on from Lance. I think May '82 is the month Dennis Cole left the show. Leslie pined after him for years, had his baby, and wasn't it just in the April '82 ep that we saw them happily dancing around the concert stage? Now she's moving right on to Robert...

I’m pretty sure that’s John Denos. Yes, Joe was extra-smarmy. Really enjoyed John and Carl’s scenes – two patriarchs. Soon Carl will be a Jabot security guard! After the mob frames him and he loses his police job. I can not get into Victoria Mallory… so stiff, wooden, and formal. She does not “feel” like Lorie’s sister to me. Loved Claire creeping up on Robert – so weird! Is Michael Damian wearing braces?

Fantastic ep! So nice to see these pivotal Ashley scenes. ED rocked it. If Bert Kramer was going for a creepy disturbing vibe as Brent, he certainly succeeded. He looked so rough around the edges, no wonder Ashley is so freaked out. He has no sense of boundaries. It was cool that they built an Abbott garage set, complete with real car. Traci’s song was just ok. I wonder if BM liked singing on the show? I know that TEB didn’t prefer it. But I loved the Torchlight Club – it looked so expensive with all the background extras filling up the space. Oh, for the days of soaps having budgets… I think Traci’s singing career is abandoned by summer ’85 when she meets Brad. Surprised Professor Tim is still lurking about. What a loser. Victor was irritating, but I appreciated seeing those scenes, because I always found it so confusing how Victor and Nikki could drift apart in ’85, so soon after their fairy-tale wedding. These scenes showed the beginning of their rift. Thank you @ltm1997 and @YRfan23 I think June of '85 - Katherine mails John the puzzle pieces one by one, showing Jill and Jack together. When he sees the pic, he has a heart attack. There's a clip online from 6/27/85 showing the hospital aftermath https://youtu.be/MnPuM_waZ_8

Here's a question - when Nathan Hastings first came on the show in '84, he was known as Kong, right? I was looking through the cast listing of the YR 25th Anniv. book, and it says that Kong was first played by Oscar winner Forrest Whitaker! That's the first I've heard of this. Anyone remember him in the role?

Like you all, I enjoyed seeing Alana for the first time. I instantly recognized the actress Amy Gibson from one of my favorite movies Airplane, where she had 1 scene as a woman so anxious to say goodbye to her soldier boyfriend that she kept running into airport radio towers Seeing both Amy Gibson and Bond Gideon has been eye-opening to me. Previously, just from knowing that actors like these were let go after short stints, I assumed they were bad. But both of these ladies gave good performances. I guess sometimes other factors lead to being let go. Amy G said she was fired bc she had weight fluctuations. Re: Liz and her finances - I think I read a synopsis circa early '83 that said Liz told Stuart she wanted none of his money in the divorce settlement. The first time I recall seeing Miguel was in summer '84 when Victor's mother was around. Victor's first butler was named Charlie, and of course in '83, crazy Eve took over the household.

This sounds right, thanks... I read some 1972 plot summaries on Jason47's website. It says "Eric lived in an apartment in a seedy part of town among drug users and hookers..." and "Eric had been going through some emotional turmoil. He was not estranged from his family, but apart from their traditional lifestyle. He was a sensitive creative type, withdrawn from the world in many ways, including experience with women". And from Jan 1973: "Greg was upset to inadvertently learn that Eric had concealed the fact that he had a young man, Jeff Michaels, sharing his apartment for the last six months. Eric hastened to assure Greg the relationship is financial only".

Thanks for the heads up, @YRfan23, awesome find! Nikki scenes: was that Esther at the very beginning? It was too quick for me to tell. I read in a SOD article from the time that Katherine/Allison/Earl were supposed to develop into a love triangle. IMO this was poorly conceived. Allison is so arch and brittle – so clipped in her line delivery. I don’t see her as a rootable character. Mark Tapscott as Earl seems dull as dishwater. I’ve seen MT in a few ‘70s Days eps in his role as Bob, and he seems very bland there as well. I don’t get the appeal. Jill scenes: just fantastic. DA does a amazing job of portraying Jill’s insecurity and desperation to escape poverty. Jill wasn’t supposed to be in this situation. Phillip married her and was going to provide for her and little Phillip, but Katherine took Phillip away. Ever since then, Jill has been trying unsuccessfully to escape this waking nightmare. This situation with John and Jack is a perfect example – she was so close to the life of her dreams (meaning both love AND wealth... sorry Andy!) but circumstances again robbed her. So awesome to see the ’81 flashback of Jack and Jill’s tryst. We had been posting on this board a few months ago, trying to figure out if there was an actual Abbott house set before 1982 – now we know there was at least a bedroom and hallway. Jill made a comment that she’d “never done anything like this before”… meaning a one-night stand. I had to think back on her history, but I guess that is correct. John’s letter, where he talked about the reasons for being so closed off, expertly set up Dina’s arrival. But I guess Bill Bell hadn’t yet come up with Ashley and Traci, since John just refers to “my son” in his letter. Loved the “split screen” effect of John and Jill’s phone call – I think the special effects person was having fun with the latest technology Leslie and Lance: what a gorgeously expensive looking concert hall set! I wonder where they filmed that. Dennis Cole is totally wooden. I could see him multiple times looking up at the cue cards. Victoria Mallory is a charming presence but too one-note to be a YR leading lady. She would have been perfect as a Disney princess. Victor and Lorie: well-done but confusing scenes… what exactly are they arguing about? Victor keeps saying “you don’t know what I’m talking about” and Lorie says “you don’t believe me”. I think this is the beginning of Lorie and Lucas’ scam to win back the Prentiss Industries proxies from Victor. Cast credits, yay! Interesting that they still are not listing the full cast – only the cast appearing in this episode. By 1983, they will have switched to listing the full cast even if they’re not in that ep.
