One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I don't recall this criticism, but looking back, I'd have to disagree. While get the comparison of both women being buried by their loved one in a special place, Megan's death was lengthy, it coincided with an anniversary, so it facilitated older characters sharing clips about their lives, and it was a whole event. Luna's death was more sudden and traumatic. On the other hand the Men of 21 stuff was a mess. Totally difficult to keep track of the characters. Bo was getting too old for these types of action stories. And there was very little character motivation that made sense. That being said, you have to admire the production values of the time, with building multiple new sets, the wardrobe was stunning, and music was excellent.

Y&R: Old Articles
I often wonder if part of the CBS daytime marketing campaign was to create obtuse taglines so that they stuck in the audience's head. I mean what the heck is a Y&R minute? 30 years later, I'm still trying to figure out how in the heat of the day, there's a different kind of fire? And what lyrical genius thought it was enticing to remind us that in the heat of the day, it's hot?

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
@Kane Kudos on your blog https://lovingsoapopera.wordpress.com/home/ I appreciate the character bios, along with your witty editorializing. I could spend hours reading your posts about the various sets around Corinth. It is so interesting to see how Burnell's changed over time. The photos of the Alden estate are so helpful when trying to remember it's various iterations. And it is so fun to re-visit places like The Tides (I love a house with a name). I know it is never easy to keep these things going, but I wanted to drop a note to say that I admire your efforts.

All My Children Tribute Thread
That's her, thank you, a google of Meg Myles really drew me down a rabbit hole. What was Joanna's motive for disliking Erica (beside the obvious), and what was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back that caused Ross to send her packing? Also, any memories of Marion's fiance during the Zack mystery?

Two classic Y&R tiktoks come to mind when reading this 1. Jill and Dina, with Dina really trying to stick it to Jill And 2 a great scene of Liz Foster finally throwing it back at Kay. I always remember Liz as being a rather put-upon somewhat weak woman, so it always pleases me when she speaks her mind. But, for pete's sake Liz, don't let Kay drive you anywhere!

All My Children Tribute Thread
I'm watching eps on tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@amcfantok?lang=en It's odd that Liza #2 has almost no scenes with Greg or Tad. She works at the TV station with Cliff, who for some reason is more motivated to be on local television than to work at the hospital which had been his passion. Upon reflection Alice Hanning has Liza's preppy vibe, but she's missing any sense of bitchiness and her role is mostly as a talk to for Marion during the Zach Grayson murder mystery. Marion's wealthy fiance seems lost to history, I'd love to know if anyone remembers what happens to him once Marion goes to jail? Her motive to kill Zach was that he was blackmailing her with their affair that she had prior to meeting a rich dude who wanted to marry her and take her on a trip around the world for their honeymoon. I swear the women in Pine Valley women underestimate the reactions of their romantic partners and keep too much information secret for no logical reason. But, I totally agree with you @danfling that Melissa Leo's Linda is a bright spot in a fallow period. She's got a very juicy scene where she taunts Nina about the pictures that she took of Nina and Zach in flagrante delicto. Obviously sexual assault on a woman who had been drugged would be played differently today, but that scene was great at showing Linda's villianry and went a long way as a red herring to implicate her in the murder. Andrew is definitely another highlight of the period. While there's a lot of overlap between Andrew and Tad's role as town cads, which may have limited story potential for both, Stephen Caffrey is excellent in his scenes with Jane Elliott, They remind me of the mother/son duo in the film The Grifters with Anjelica Houston and John Cusack. Although, I always think of his hysterical lip sync scene in Longtime Companion whenever I see him (as well as the heartbreaking ending of that film). I also really like Robert Gentry as Ross. It is an such interesting role that was written as a romantic hero with some questionable motives and is tied to two major families. It is a shame that later creative choices backed Ross into a corner, because he had such potential, and I like Gentry so much more as Ross than as Ed on GL. Was Ross excluded from both Adam and Palmer's will? Finally, there's one other character that I don't recall the reference. At some point when Adam disappears, and is then kidnapped by Billy Clyde, Ross is firing a female member of the household staff. He really dislikes her and she was clearly not a nice person. I think she had something to do with keeping Stuart in line, but I can't remember her name or her story?

Yes, Nina's 18th birthday was celebrated with a costume ball. Daisy had already been introduced, she was living/working in the stables and was established as Nina's mother shortly before the ball. But, it was during the party that Palmer realized Daisy was in Pine Valley and hunted her down with his very scary german shepherds. I don't know if it was due to her diabetes (which seemed to magically disappear after she lost her virginity to Cliff), or she was just sheltered by Palmer, but Nina was never shown in high school, despite the fact that she would have been just a bit younger than Jenny, and perhaps close in age to Tad, given that he was matriculating at PVU during Daisy's trial for Zach's murder. I would speculate that given Nina's romance with Cliff, who would have been in his mid 20s at least, they didn't want to emphasize Nina's youth. In the scenes on TikTok, there's no painted portrait, but there is an 8x10 in the living room of a woman who was supposed to be Daisy, but it was just a picture of Taylor with a wig. Today's thought after watching 1985-1986. Cliff drunkenly slept with Sybil the moment Nina rejected him due to her fears about loosing her eyesight, and later Nina slept with Matt the moment she thought Cliff was dead. Some love affair! These two hop into bed with other partners the minute their back is turned. Nina did it with Zack, Steve, and Matt, all the while claiming her love for Cliff.

General Hospital: August 2022 Discussion Thread
The more that I see social media posts celebrating the anniversary of other actors, the more I believe the theory that both felt slighted that their anniversary has not been celebrated. At first I thought it may be due to the fact that both have not been on GH consistently for the past 45 years. Kin famously went off to Texas for a bit, and JZ also took some time off in the 1980s. But, then I remembered that Genie Francis also had jobs outside of GH within those 45 years and she was celebrated. So, I don't know what the issue is with the lack of recognition, but it seems like the most reasonable theory.

Ken Corday interview on the move to Peacock.
This made me laugh. The idea of teaching a 98 year old man how to watch TV suggests that marketing has not really done their research on what are the perceived barriers to using a streaming service. I mean read the other threads, it seems like value for dollar is a more likely impediment than a lack of understanding of technology. On the other hand, I think these are his strongest arguments. If you ignore the writing, acting, lighting, sets, and production values, at least the picture will be clearer and there will be more of it to watch.

General Hospital: August 2022 Discussion Thread
OK, I know Cody hasn't been confirmed to be Scott's son, but if he is, that would be the fourth kid that Scott found out about as an adult; which seems like some sort of Stefano-level achievement. Besides Serena, he's met Karen, Franco, and Logan (all RIP), which seems odd because Scott isn't that much of a mess that four different women would never reveal to him that they were pregnant. Come to think of it, maybe Serena should stay out of town, things don't tend to end well for Scotty's kids.

new GH cast photos
I was looking at them this morning on Tumblr. While everyone is lovely, I found it remarkable how unglamorized the current pics seem. Here's Cynthia Watros Just for comparison, because they were in same post, here's Tia Carrere as Jade Soong from 1985, looking more like a soap actress, not just of the era here's some more of the current crop (thanks @GHPast&Present Tumblr Pretty, modern, just underwhelming when it comes to styling And I'll just leave this one here

DAYS: August 2022 Discussion Thread ⌛
It's a shame that they'll pit Belle and Jada against each other because Belle needs a confidant, both to ground her and make her more likable. I think it would go a long way to see Belle laughing with another woman (not her mother) about the lack of quality men in Salem that she's either not related to, boffed one of their brothers, or has been boffed by her sister. To me, Belle is defined by her harsh treatment of Sami (regardless of justification), and she needs a little levity to make her a romantic interest.

All My Children Tribute Thread
As I mentioned above I am watching 84-86 on TikTok, and I have a theory... I wonder if Jeremy Hunter was a replacement character for Giles St. Clair Here's my totally unfounded, out of thin air, no proof theory. After the unsuccessful recast of Mike Roy, Giles was brought on as a love interest for Erica, and the third part of a love triangle with Brooke. The character was intriguing, but mostly portrayed as a himbo, sunning himself in speedos on the roof of the Chandler Mansion. One of his stunts was that he climbed the building of Erica's office tower. Cut to Jeremy, a french stud who also climbed the building to Erica's office window. At the time AMC was struggling creatively with recasts of Nina and Liza, as well as the fake Jenny. So, perhaps rather than recasting Giles, they brought in Jeremy. Which, of course, proved to be very successful as the character drove story for years both on AMC and LOV. Also, justice for Dottie, she deserved to find love, and I would have liked them to explore more of the possible connection of Donna and Cliff. Benny was remarried too quickly after Estelle and Nina was not a good match for Cliff, so the pairing of the two made sense and there was chemistry.

B&B August 2022 Discussion Thread
Wouldn't it be fun if Sheila has assumed Diane from Y&R's secret identity? They're both in LA, Deacon may have helped them both escape, and there hasn't been a juicy Y&R/B&B crossover for awhile.

ARTICLE: ‘Days of our Lives’ Making the Shift from NBC to Peacock Starting September 12
Perhaps I don't understand the context, but when people say radio silence do they expect more than a press release from NBC, an article in Variety, and coverage on Entertainment Tonight? Is a social media post more meaningful than those sources? Because twitter has a fraction of the interaction than those platforms cited. So, if we are waiting on a tweet, it seems unnecessary (sorry for the tone, chalk it up to a bad mood). On the other hand, I am concerned that the lack of entertainment media being produced during August hiatus will create a vacuum of publicity for the move amongst viewers of broadcast TV who are not engaged in social media. Without promotion it seems like the move with occur with a whimper and not a bang. At the very least I would have expected that the weekly preview commercials would include the coda, "soon to be a Peacock exclusive".
