I am very pleased about the Alex Jones verdict and the incompetency of his 11th legal counsel is just icing on the cake. If Alex Jones's attorney thinks he's getting paid for four months worth of billing, than he is definitely dumb enough to send two years worth of missing documents to his opponent. However, I still can't believe that 24% of Americans continue to believe that Sandy Hook was a hoax and still buy $100,000-$300,00 a day in merch sales that makes Alex Jones rich.

I find it intriguing that more people in social media are concerned about the possibility of never seeing a live action Barbara Gordan, rather than closing a tax loop that would allow a company to willfully admit about deliberately taking a loss in order to recoup the money off the back of the taxpayers. I just read that HBO Max and Discovery + combined have 95 million sub, which they fret about while Paramount + has 93 million subs and considers that a victory. As an investment neophyte it sounds like a scam.

I feel like if I put up the multi-episode-when-the-story-could-be-told-in-20-minutes schlock on Netflix, and Prime Video which I always forget about, and 9 bucks for Spotify just so I don't hear the same commercial on repeat every 10 minutes, $4.99 for DAYS and Bravo seems like a bargain for the entertainment value.

The one John Conboy signature move that I always associate with his production style is the way that at the beginning of an episode the camera would sneak around the room from behind a pillar or through a railing to observe the characters as if the audience was peering into the action. You see it on SB, as well as in the Clegg living room on Capitol. So, I wonder if that was part of his motive to change the Capwell Villa? I preferred the lighting on the old set, but I also enjoyed the shots through the archways that provided a meta-commentary on the voyeuristic nature of being a soap fan. Also, the Megan/Greg retcon took away from one of CC's only redeeming qualities which was his devotion to his kids and grandchildren. Why would he have gone through so much trouble to find a home for Brandon, but ignore Greg? It made no sense.

I get that soap fans don't like change. However, it feels like the argument for why people wouldn't pay for cable in the 1980s. The decision was clearly not based on quality, it is part of the change that is happening across media and any hopes of change in production or writing seems to come from left field. I agree from the perspective that there may not be a big marketing push, given that most entertainment talk shows will be on hiatus in August, to inform current viewers of the switch. I always use the example that Y&R switched time slots in LA over a decade ago, and I no longer know what time it airs. It is hard to break old habits.

One assumes they'll post early every morning like Beyond Salem, although the UK soaps recently experimented with posting the whole week of episodes every Monday Call me when that guy gets either a digital marketing degree or spell-check. These are the same types of doomsday predictions that people said when VCRs came to market. The truth is that we don't know how people will consume serialized drama as more people cut the cord. Passions and AMC/OLTL were a lifetime ago in the age of streaming and smart tv technology. And, optimistically, given that streaming sponsorship relies on micro data of the audience, writers and creatives won't be beholden to keep trying to entice 18-35 year old viewers, if an older more dedicated audience continues to watch the show.

So, it seems like although the news is shocking, the experience of how we consume the show wouldn't change that much, and it makes it easier to "second screen", so that people can post and chat as they watch.

I'd be interested to know from those on this board how many watch it live with commercials versus watching it on cable streaming or DVR? There seems to be a dedicated few that watch it live daily and then post here. However, I've not watched a soap live since the Reagan administration (since we're also admitting our age). So, except for the fee, it seems like the same viewing experience to me whether it is streamed on nbc.com or Peacock. And I'd rather pay $5-$15 for a couple of streaming services then $95 for a whole cable package with a with a bunch of sports that I don't watch.

In Los Angeles the NBC affiliate already announced that they're replacing Ellen with local news, From 5am to 2pm (Kelly Clarkson) and then 3-7 it will be 13 hours of news. For me, what's missing is the Slesar way of inter cutting stories. A story ends, characters flounder, and then something else happens to them. I yearn for stories that have consequences, but when even death is not forever in Salem, there's no sense of people who have grown and changed based on experience.

I think this is such an interesting point because affiliate scheduling is also what doomed Generations. Now, I've only read the summaries of FRFP, which admittedly were neither entertaining nor innovative. However, SOD blamed casting and writing choices for the demise of FRFP, but as is often the case, creative forces are only one element in a show's cancellation. TikTok continues to be my go-to source for soap memories.
