  1. I wish Brook Lynn's motive for keeping Chase off of the force was more compelling. At this point it is just too obvious that Chase will find out about the letter of recommendation, break it off with Brook Lynn, return to the force, then save Brook Lynn from the Hook killer, and they'll get back together. But, if Brook Lynn had a more honest reason to keep Chase from going back to police work, like a political desire to defund the PC police, or she thought that Chase was only going back to the force because he was afraid of chasing his dream, it would demonstrate some growth for the character, and not fall into the age old trap of the woman being crazy for love to point that they loose any sense of reason.
  2. I was just unsuccessfully searching for my favorite campy Sheila line of all time. I believe it is right before the fight in the lab in 1992. Sheila is gaslighting Lauren at the hospital and suggests a playdate between their two kids. Lauren looks at her with astonishment and Sheila responds, "oh right, you can't, because your baby is dead." I mean, it's not subtle, but it was fun. Last thought; if we take it at face value that Sheila has had six kids (the baby with Scott that died, Erica/Mary Warwick, Diana Marone, Daisy, Ryder, and Finn), is that more than any other woman on a Bell soap? I know Stephanie had five (Ridge, Thorne, Angela, Kristen, and Felicia), but I can't think of anyone else with six...
  3. And, of course, the brother of Hogan Sheffer (although the looks did not transfer through the DNA)
  4. That's easy. They knew it was hacked when there hadn't been a tweet about Meghan Markle's podcast for the past twenty minutes 😗
  5. I don't think planning or development was an issue in the chaotic first months of storytelling, I think it was desperation. In terms of preparation, NBC built a new sound stage for SB, there was a ton of promotion on-air and in print, the premiere episode was reviewed in the New York Times, and there was a classic soap murder plot. However, we can't dismiss that NBC chose to unveil the soap as counter programming to the Summer Olympics on ABC. Coverage in SOD at the time suggested that ABC soaps might never recover from the pre-emptions due to the games. Remember that the 1980 games in Moscow were cancelled, so there was a narrative that the 1984 games would flop, and the loyal viewers of ABC daytime would lose interest after two weeks of nonsoap coverage and flock to the other networks. Yet, none of that happened. The 1984 games in Los Angeles was a huge success, ABC had planned well by having cliffhangers before the games and plenty of promotion, and as a result the initial ratings for SB were very poor. After touting the huge sums of money spent on sets and talent, it became clear that NBC and New World began to desperately scramble for ratings. The earthquake, a cast cull, and an injection of more sex were the immediate solutions. However, it was never enough to turn the ship around from the early failure to attract an audience.
  6. One of the oddest tidbit about Pam Long's time on GL that I recall from our review of SOD news from the early 1990's is that her exit interview was actually done by her fiance.
  7. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/real-estate/2022/10/24/legendary-southfork-ranch-sells-to-north-texas-community-developer/ Although the fictional Ewing clan departed the property decades ago, Southfork has continued to be a tourist draw, with the centerpiece mansion used for events and conferences. New owner Centurion American — one of the largest home community developers in North Texas — plans to use part of the 241-acre property in the town of Parker for a new neighborhood of custom homes.
  8. I've noted before that I thought the Lotus Point office set was brilliantly designed for this exact dramatic purpose. Reflecting the contemporary affinity for open office design in that set, and in the later Sumner Group set, gave multiple opportunities for directors to shoot through windows and use character POV's of staring at their lovers and enemies. Yet, when I research Knots' Emmy nominations, it was never honored in the category of set design. In fact, in 1985 Dynasty was nominated, Miami Vice won, but the Knots set never received the respect it deserved given it's unique use as a dramatic device. IMHO, in comparison, JR and Alexis's respective offices were generic and only allowed them to be shot from a single perspective. FYI, according to the Emmy's website, Knots got 3 Noms (Leading Actress for Julie Harris & Michelle Lee in 1982, and the musical score in 1983) and 1 win (Joel Rosenbaum for the underscore in 1987).
  9. You're correct, I should've just said Cameron Mathison's name directly...
  10. I am the first to notice that with Billy Moses and Gregory Harrison there's a Falcon Crest reunion in the making on GH? Seriously, I am much more excited about these castings than regurgitating an aging hair model from another soap.
  11. Although I hadn't considered it until reading @Melroser post, I would offer an alternative opinion. I think a bookstore fits historically in the context of soaps (ATWT had a bookstore for years), as well as accurately depicting Walingford's contemporary times with the rise of huge book shops like Barnes & Noble. Also, given that Cory Publishing was one of the big employers in town, it would make sense to have a book seller that could exemplify the economic underpinnings of the company. However, I agree that having Cass and Felicia running the shop was a poor choice for the characters. Cass was never portrayed as valuing entrepreneurship, and I believe that he would have eaten raw sewage before he got into customer service. Felicia was a romance novelist who never studied literature or consumer trends. Being the managers of Wallingford's felt like another attempt to domesticate these two characters who had previously been celebrated sophisticates, but at that point were being given random twentysomethings to parent. To me it is one of the shames of the 1990s that urbane adult characters who initially eschewed traditional family values, suddenly started dressing in neutral tones and, traded get-rich-quick schemes for building established roles as community leaders. What an awful non-aspirational message that mature love means giving up champagne and feathers for a sober life spent dishing out relationship advice to ungrateful young adults. Every soap needs a communal space, and it always feels fresh when it is not a bar or a diner. Perhaps, if Matthew or Amanda opened a store to sell Cory's books it would have seemed more natural and lasted longer. Felicia could come by for book signings, the store could have been the site of publishing parties, and Pat could pop in to see that Brava was being given primo shelf space.
  12. Not to go too far a field, but why does Jamie Lee Curtis's character have a book deal if everyone hates her and blames her for the deaths?
  13. I second this request, and if there was a like option then I wouldn't even need to post this comment 😁
  14. My complaint continues that by the time I've watched the aftershows on YouTube and their appearances on WWHL, the season has been endlessly rehashed prior to the reunion, so there's no spontaneity. However, Kyle's response to Crystal is befuddling. I guess the logic is that Kyle is mad at Crystal for being unwilling to discuss off-camera gossip about Sutton, which causes Kyle to be unwilling to discuss an off-camera rumor about Crystal?
  15. The movie is on YouTube, and while I didn't see Alexandra Wilson, there is a credit for Jocelyn Seagrave aka Julie from GL https://youtu.be/cpl2PxkSel4 Someone on social media recently said that Gen X'ers only use the internet for sleuthing about crime, and they weren't wrong.
  16. I found the story because something about it rang a bell. It was a famous Weho murder because the guy ran a well known store called Just Sweats. Antonio Sabato Jr starred in the TV movie about it titled "If Looks Could Kill" and Oprah featured the story in an episode about unsolved crimes. https://www.bardachreports.com/murder-hustle While he was at Studio 54, Hawkins met Ilanna "Missy" Hughes, a tall, blonde actress and model who was featured on the TV soap opera "Another World". Several of Hawkins's closest friends refer to Missy as his great love. Their relationship bobbed along for four years and almost solidified into marriage several times. The first Just Sweats was launched in Lexington, Kentucky, the hometown of Ilanna Hughes. Missy came in as an investor, while her brother signed on as manager. Another store, in Columbus, Ohio, became the business's headquarters. Within a year, Just Sweats exploded into twenty-two stores, half in Ohio, half in Kentucky, and was generating a staggering $8.5 million in sales. Isn't funny how a comment about a minor character can turn into an evening's worth of internet searches? P.S. According to CBS News Hawkins was released in 2014 and now counsels trouble youth...
  17. If they're not selling latex face masks or resurrection serums then they're really missing a marketing opportunity.
  18. Just once I want Brooke and Taylor to have a 90210-Kelly-Taylor-"I choose me" revelation. Brooke's a scientist, Taylor's a doctor, and the best that Ridge can do is draw dresses for his father's company. Get it together ladies and learn your worth! I know there's only two other available men in all of Los Angeles, but they've got to find someone else.
  19. Also, Sonny's so desperate to reconcile with Michael that he seems to have completely ignored Dante.
  20. Not to go off topic, but am I correct that someone tried to scam the Nurse's Ball charity? I don't remember how that whole story got resolved What I do remember is that Marco was involved with Sonny during his strip club days and that there had been no character development, or call back to prior events, in his treatment of Karen Wexler versus his treatment of Tina
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong (which I might be) but I would nominate Marco Dane's 1992 return to GH. Although, Gerald Anthony won an emmy on a strong initial story pairing with Tracy. I recall an unseemly story where Marco was going to abscond with the funds from Lucy Coe's annual Nurse's Ball AIDS fundraiser. It seemed irresponsible to take an event that meant to be GH's annual public service episode and pervert it with the story about stealing charitable funds. (Here's where I am uncertain, if Marco wanted to steal the money, or was that someone else's scam?) I would further argue that the Marco who showed up in Port Charles possessed all of the worst parts of the character that were derived from other's writers trying to make him a comedic figure. Certainly, Marco had a wacky side, but he was so much more complex during his relationships with Karen and Katrina. So, to write him as essentially a buffoon, or side kick to Luke and Sonny, robbed the 1992 audience of what made the character so revolutionary in the first place.
  22. How revolutionary would it be for a soap character just to have a hook up with no repercussions? We know Chanel is facing some stress in the near future, and it would be refreshing if this fling with Alex (which looked like fun) brought her and Allie closer rather than the predictable break up and then make up after a crisis.
  23. I agree. My interpretation is that they objectified Alex to fulfill their needs in a way that neither Tripp nor Johnny would be willing to do. They don't want a throuple with Alex (who would? he doesn't bring a lot beyond his physique to the equation), they just wanted some exploration.
  24. Can someone fill me on Regis's NBC show? I recall watching the premiere because my family were big Regis fans from his local morning show AM LA (Los Angeles) But, I was looking at 1982 ratings and saw that the show was listed as 30 minutes. Did NBC reduce the show from 60 to 30 minutes, or was it always 60 and I was mistaken?
