  1. Seriously, why would ROSEANNE of all people make light of this situation? Does she have NO EMPATHY at all?
  2. The first that comes to my mind is Roger, but I think Zaslow had given notice well before Marland took over. I read somewhere (most likely this very thread and I'll bet the poster was Carl) that Marland had about four months to write Roger out.
  3. I think they are. It's still awesome of someone to put them all up for those who didn't or couldn't buy a region-free DVD player specifically for those DVDs. *whistles innocently*
  4. Yeah, no. Phillip returned to our screens long before Beth did and we didn't see him until the Lucy/Alan-Michael wedding in mid-1996. Beth was the one who initiated divorce proceedings (not without cause) and we didn't see her until after she'd thoroughly traumatized Lizzie with an abusive relationship with Carl Warren.
  5. I could get on that train. However, I really liked Charles Grant as well, so I would've been torn between watching Charles get hurt and watching Vivian and Cutter driving each other crazy.
  6. Speaking of Gilly (and why do I keep forgetting to mention her?), I meant to include her in with the women Cutter had some chemistry with. Speaking as someone who did like Lucy for the most part, I think it was terrible how they just planted her in Gilly's place in the battle for Spaulding. It kind of lost some meaning and oomph, given that Lucy had no idea who Roger was and Gilly had many reasons, both personal and professional, to want to see Roger twisting in the wind.
  7. That's one of the first and most destructive mistakes an EP/HW can really make. Yes, I understand that constant pandering to the audience can be just as destructive (see post-Joie Manny and the return of Brad Cole after we were finally rid of boring Richard for starters), but I really think that had someone listened to the audience in this case (the popularity of Tangie and Cutter), it could have really changed some things right up. Personally, I actually did like Tangie with the Lewises and wish those relationships hadn't been dropped after she and Josh broke up, though I think the Tangie pairing was the last time Josh was actually relevant as a character on his own (or maybe right up to when Reva appeared in Amish country) rather than as one-half (the more "expendable" half from the show's POV) of Jeva.
  8. I think he played some gangsterish type who had something on Irizarry's character. I can't remember what the name of the character was. I don't remember the toupee article.
  9. I think they finally tore the wig off sometime in December of '94, about halfway through his run. He was (still is, actually) hot with or without it, but he got much finer without it. Thanks for sharing the ad! I'll gladly take anything I can see of Hoxby. He and Irizarry were on Y&R together for a few episodes, right? I honestly never understood how Cutter never got a pairing. They tested him with Holly, he had great rapport and chemistry with Tangie, and there was even some chemistry there with Lucy (who was crippled by CLEARLY being for Alan-Michael all along) and Wendy Moniz's Dinah as well. Can you imagine a Cutter/Dinah pairing for sheer opposites-attract value?
  10. Thanks, Moffat! I can't put my finger on quite why, but I'm enjoying this Doctor a lot. In a way, he says the same things the other Doctors did, but he's less charming and more abrasive and he lacks some of the qualities that made it so easy to ignore or excuse Ten or Eleven. He reminds me a lot of the 9th Doctor, but he's not quite as harsh as the 6th, in my opinion.
  11. I'm watching the German DVDs from late 1979 again. Great stuff, even though Ben McFarren was an idiot.
  12. I really adored Time Heist. Now if we can just get Danny into the TARDIS...
  13. For me, it's gotten better by episode. I had to resort to reading a transcript for Deep Breath. And it wasn't the accent for me, it was a combination of some mumbling going on and a lot of fast talking. That being said, I'm thoroughly enjoying this season, and Capaldi's take on the Doctor. I think the change has also been good for Jenna Coleman's Clara. I'm starting to get attached to her for the first time. I'm also really enjoying this Danny Pink guy. We need a new Team TARDIS.
  14. I'm keeping up with the regular uploads and, yeah, it is difficult to get through. Then and now, I can't understand why Amanda was so "awful" that everyone was lined up against her. Blake was unbearable (and had been since Dinah's arrival) and I'm once again looking forward to watching her lies blow up on her face. The whole Roger/Dinah/Hart thing was so mean-spirited all the way around. While I did start off rooting for Dinah and Hart to nail Roger to the wall, all three parties have acted so disgusting that it's increasingly hard to figure out for whom we're actually supposed to be rooting. Fletcher and Holly just completely fell off the map after they got saddled with that baby who was barely mentioned again. The Spauldings were a complete mess with that blowhard Buzzard constantly getting the upper hand on them. This Phillip/Alan-Michael feud is pretty much "been there, done that," and we'd already just sat through it with Alan-Michael/Alexandra/Nick and then Alan/Alan-Michael with Alan doing some pretty disgusting stuff even for him. The lack of Ed at this time blew a hole in the show that was always there when he wasn't around and we're still some time from Mary Stuart's debut as Meta, who did a little to fill in that hole left by there being NO steady, sane patriarchal/matriarchal presence of any kind, as we had already lost Henry and HB had already made his last appearance months before. Rick was nowhere near ready to take on the mantle of being the "elder Bauer," and his time before Phillip's return was completely wasted by throwing him into the Josh/Annie story. And then when Phillip returned, Rick returned to playing second banana to him. This Vanessa story was horrible. The only saving grace was it brought Billy back temporarily (and opened the door for his permanent return later). It hardly helps that, upon rewatch, I've been finding a lot more to dislike about early Matt than I remember. Reva is absolutely terrible and I still hate that they kept making Annie more and more pathetic and evil to prop her up. What was done to the Grants was unforgivable and I'm still trying to figure out the point of Griffin and Marcus Williams. At this point, I'm wishing Brent Lawrence could have made a return engagement to torture everyone some more at this point. What a tumbledown from that glorious (though not without some major flaws) period that was 1989-mid 1995.
  15. I'm so excited for Capaldi tonight!
  16. Cutter's death was as horrifying as Nadine's was, for different reasons. I missed Cutter for a very long time. It didn't help that they started phasing out any non-Cooper or non-Cooper-related cops in the months that followed.
  17. Time for a "Why is half of PC suddenly dead and who is responsible?!" story.
  18. Oh, I am so looking forward to reliving and truly appreciating the frakkery of Josh Taylor as Quinton Chamberlain.
  19. One can't really blame Holly for becoming unhinged. Look at that evil SOB Roger. It's just a shame Holly wasn't given the chance to tell Roger to piss off once and forever after the meat grunge he put her through beyond Center.
  20. I loved Holly's chemistry with Billy. I really wish they had gone somewhere with them for a while.
  21. Since we've had some conversation around Hope lately, can anyone tell me how she managed to disappear so quickly with Alan-Michael without a huge custody fight with Alan? There's virtually nothing I can find regarding Hope's quick exit that justified Alan not fighting for him, considering everything he did to keep Phillip.
  22. And a lot of vocal people continue to insist that Jill Farren Phelps did more damage than Laibson and Rauch did. I just can't with that.
  23. It didn't quite so much bother me that Hope never came back (though that did bother the hell out of me and still does) as much as whenever they did mention her, she was either back to drinking or in rehab. Just don't mention her at all if you're gonna keep twisting the knife.
