  1. So Trump is speaking to reporters but it can't be broadcast live because Mar-a-Lago isn't set up for a live broadcast??!! WTF. I'm so skeptical right now, it's coming across as if he planned it this way.
  2. Considering the fact that dead bodies are still being counted from his raid in Yemen, he doesn't have a very good track record so far. Also, isn't there supposed to be some type of Congressional approval to launch missiles? This isn't a raid (which doesn't require Congress, I believe) but launching missiles is altogether different, isn't it?
  3. Probably because it completely contradicts what he said here.
  4. Francois Fillon is the nominee from the Republicans party.
  5. I think that Colleen and Hugo definitely could've worked together again.
  6. The ACLU is said to be taking that case and ACLU has already had success with gathering people to file individual lawsuits and class action against the Trump administration.
  7. I would say so much dark money but the influence is dark while the identity is very much known. I wonder if/when U.S. politics can ever come back after crossing this threshold? The Trump administration has taken big money to the excess. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has almost 500 key positions that are still vacant. Oh well, I guess golf weekends at Mar-a-Lago take precedence.
  8. And this 180 after years ago, tweeting that President Obama should not get involved in 'boots on the ground' in Syria, turns around as twists his words to blame Obama for not putting "boots on the ground'. Trump doesn't have a proper foreign policy agenda, just whatever he feels at the moment. I wonder how active service men and women in the military feel about their prospects these days? I know there have been some very vocal veterans who have spoken out against Trump's policies but I'm curious if his constant turnabouts have cause enrollment to go down or some military to request honorable discharges in higher numbers. Meanwhile, something that needed to be done some time ago,
  9. I cannot stress how true this is. By 2001, P&G had a laissez-faire attitude, that became even more indifferent as the years went by until cancellation. I'll never forget my conversation with someone in their NYC production offices as a graduate student, it was clear they didn't give a f*ck.
  10. Just days after Nikki Haley declares that the U.S. is no longer interested in removing Assad from power, there are vicious chemical attacks unleashed on children, women and men in Syria. Does not appear to be a mere coincidence.
  11. Colleen Zenk, nor should any actor, get to determine the direction of a character. Although I was too young to have seen it myself, from what I've read on soap blogs, Gunnar basically disappeared in a hot air balloon with no real confirmation as to whether he was dead or alive, so it would have been a nod to long-time viewers to include a brief storyline arc where Gunnar emerges from locked in syndrome (or something) and throws Barbara's life into indecision on the eve of her wedding to Henry, instead of Dancing With the Stars. Also, didn't Colleen Zenk post a photo of her with Hugo Napier sometime last year? I think Colleen would have relished the fact that the writers were centering a more complex story around her character.
  12. Nobody listens to this man, except for his frittering fanbase of cultists. Perhaps all his lies have stopped up the ears of these utilities executives. Trump declares end to 'war on coal,' but utilities aren't listening
  13. General Stanley McChrystal makes the case for funding PBS. He says it's not just the military that makes us safer. Stanley McChrystal: Save PBS. It Makes Us Safer.
  14. One thing I would've changed-- every single actor that played Craig Montgomery in the show's last decade should've been playing Rick Ryan, Barbara's wayward brother. The only storylines that the show would've had to change for the actors was there'd be no marriage with Barbara, and no impregnation of Jennifer of course (which was disgusting anyway), but in the end Rick could've still ended up with Roseanna and on the way there, the Ryan family could've been strengthened with opportunities for more conflict (i.e. drama) between Rick and possibly Paul, Emily, even Bob Hughes (remember Bob didn't trust Rick who caused scandal and chaos at the hospital). Unlike Craig who had a very memorable character arc defined by two writing regimes but especially by Douglas Marland, Rick was more of an unfinished character that had enough of a memorable character arc as to provide for some highly interesting storylines, especially seeing as his flight out of Oakdale left a lot of things in limbo. Barbara was on the Oakdale canvass since, what, the late 70s? The Ryans should've had a stronger presence and with just Barbara and Paul (who sometimes barely had scenes with each other some years in the show's last decade) that wasn't happening. Lots of missed opportunities! Like you, @Scrapple ATWT was my favorite soap and I was deeply disappointed in the direction the writers decided to go in the last decade, trashing a lot of what had been celebrated about the show decades before. The last year was mostly unwatchable for me, I finally watched the last handful of episodes a year after the show went off the air and I was mostly numb watching how the show had been ground to dust and although the actors tried their best to give the show a dignified end, the stories, the lighting, sets all worked against that possibility of a dignified end. Many of the actors looked haggard and raked over the coals (Ironically, the oldest actors looked the most vital and stalwart). I can go back and look at many storylines from the 80s and early 90s many times, I can watch clips from the show's late 90s-early 00s (although not entire storyline arc) but I can't even face the possibility of viewing episodes in that final year, the show was too much a mess for me.
  15. Apart from the U.S. Open, I don't see any of the major tournaments adopting any of these, including the shot clock. I don't see Wimbledon doing it and Wimbledon is the Queen Bee of the majors. Maybe Delray Beach and Memphis. Most likely, the testing ground will be the Challengers and Futures, if any of these suggestions get off the ground. With a few exceptions, I think most hard court and grass court tournaments run the appropriate lengths of time. Maybe the ATP would be better served getting roofs for many of their tournaments since rain delays usually jam the schedule. This would only be on the ATP side, there's no way the WTA would consider this.
  16. I saw that photograph earlier today but didn't believe it was actually the official portrait! It looks like a poster advertising the next Scientology convention! *anyone who has seen that HBO documentary about Scientology Going Clear may know what I'm talking about* @MissLlanviewPA Usually I remember a lot of trivia too but as I've gotten older I'm astonished at how well I can selectively erase certain people from my memory bank!
  17. What. Is. This. Exclusive: ATP could trial shorter sets, no service lets and shot clock in raft of potential reforms
  18. The fact that Sanders called for Obama to be primaried in 2012 doesn't sit right with me (how insulting!) and it probably didn't sit well with the other groups that didn't vote for Sanders in the '16 Democratic primary. There are definitely factions within the Democratic party that are either Democrats in name only (e.g. the Joe Manchins) or only use Democratic party apparatus when it suits them (Democratic Socialists like Sanders who Caucus with the Democrats). Anywho, everyone's talking about the 'nuclear option' but this is an interesting fact- and I like actual facts (not alternative facts ).
  19. Yeah, I'm over it too. Wasn't sure why an article from December of last year was posted but *shrugs*.
  20. Shh, best not to say that too loudly, as we're not supposed speak too much about diversity- remember talking about diversity too often is what lost the election. Best to talk in generalities and assume that everybody will 'get' it. And once Obama won, some people were almost hoping for Clinton to dig in her heels but she somehow convinced even her most loyal base to vote for Obama, which even the voters who felt bitter about her loss did vote for Obama. Funny how that worked, huh? Could it be that the two primary candidates actually agreed to work in concert to get the party's nominee elected and not just pay lip service to the idea? Could it also be that Clinton's voters were more interested in securing the White House, rather than spiting Obama? Hmm, I wonder....
  21. Not since Season 3 of House of Cards, have I been hearing the words "backchannel" so often! Apparently, the Chinese have been setting up a backchannel through Kushner to Trump. The Chinese seem to be into dynasties and liken Kushner to a 'princeling' the way China regards wealthy and well-connected sons of Communist party elites as 'princelings'.
  22. I've never cared for Giuliani but in his early years his reputation for wanting to drive out the mob built his reputation for being anti-corruption but this latest chapter in his political career, with him defending a wealthy Iranian businessman who has violated U.S. sanctions laws and has a whole host of other criminal charges (yet is connected to the president of Turkey, Erdogan) really makes Giuliani look like a defender for corruption who is against the rule of law. This entire situation, well, something stinks, right from the head. Legal Team That Includes Giuliani Pushes for Deal, Just Not With Prosecutors
  23. Did y'all hear about the #People's Summit being held in Chicago, with no Chicagoans on the roster?
  24. In a little over a week, this episode will be 60 years old! I I was reading the Wikipedia pages of Santos Ortega and Ruth Warrick. Ms. Warrick was quite a lady. She once refused an award given to her by the South Carolina Arts Commission because they wouldn't remove the Confederate battle flag. It's interesting to try to place each character within context of the Hughes family. That Bob and Penny had an Aunt Edith and an Uncle John (of all names!). There's an announcement for the Edge of Night during the closing credits!
