  1. Could the world of “reality TV” finally have a reckoning with the “real world”? This is a share (aka gift) article. Reality TV or Court TV? Lawsuits Test Limits of Outrageous Behavior
  2. Since they’re not even trying anymore, NBC just needed to let what little coverage they were providing go. It’s so shabby. Honestly, I don’t know whether this is a step up or a lateral move at this point. I read that TNT is making some changes with their NBA coverage and many are unhappy about this. I don’t know about any of these television outlets and their commitment to tennis. It sure doesn’t seem like anyone is talking about ‘growing the game’ like they used to. As for the men’s and women’s finals- I watched most of the first set of yesterday’s women’s final and between the diminished confidence of Paolini and the unbearable commentary, my attention started to drift to what was going on outside. A beautiful Saturday morning, with clear, bright sunny skies and moderate breezes…and I was out of there! Today’s match was at the very least, more intriguing if predictable. Never for one moment did I think Zverev was in any danger of winning that match…not even when Alcaraz called the trainer. When Mary Carillo, of all people, stated that Zverev was composed (or some such description) and that he seemed unfazed and not panicked, I nearly did a spit take. Then my next thought was that, “yeah sure his on court demeanor is calm, but off court, he will take it out on someone). What a disaster in the commentary booth are Carillo and McEnroe! Of tennis doesn’t want to drop behind pickle ball, they’ve got to come up with a more sustainable approach than this.
  3. I completely forgot about the Daytime Emmy awards, but I wonder if MVJ wants to reveal anything other than a tagline before the fall. Still, someone could have said “…coming soon to your television screens, the first daytime drama to debut on CBS in nearly 40 years…” which could have lended some sense of intrigue to things. Oh well, daytime, especially CBS Daytime stopped putting effort into promoting these soaps a number of years ago. 🤷🏾‍♀️
  4. The Sister Act 2 reunion on The View has been a hot topic over the past week and in this interview, Tanya Trotter (née Blount) says that she and Lauryn Hill auditioned in NYC and Lauryn had just gotten off of acting on the…er, The Young and the Restless. 😬
  5. That is my hope as well. There’s a very fine line, especially when the subject of the documentary is not here to speak for himself.
  6. Wow, I completely and utterly forgot that this was on tonight! I never thought I would see the day when the Daytime Emmy awards would completely fall off my radar! 🤯
  7. Some of those images made my heart sink. The documentary that Kristoff worked on that detailed his abuse in that cult showed also be shown alongside this documentary. As hard as it is for us to watch watch that trailer, it must be doubly hard for his daughters.
  8. BBC World News reported on reaction to Rishi Sunak’s decision to leave to do the ITV interview. In this day and age of technological innovation, couldn’t ITV have done a remote? Whoever keeps his calendar and books his media should have requested that the reporter come to France or they do an interview via video conference. Not the finest choice was made by team Sunak. Seems like the British public are hot to get rid of the Tories from power and it increasingly looks like Sunak could be at the helm when his party gets the boot.
  9. Wow, I had no idea that Zverev took a plea deal. I saw your post @Soapsudsand went searching for more information. ESPN a network that barely cares about tennis at least has a modest write up on it, while tennis channel’s website doesn’t appear to have posted anything- if they have, I can’t find it.
  10. Don’t want to talk to much to jinx it, but boy that result of that 2nd women’s semifinal made me happy.
  11. Once again, another influence campaign using fake Black people as part of its strategy. https://www.yahoo.com/news/israel-secretly-targets-u-lawmakers-113653377.html
  12. There are so many other characters in the Frasier universe that could be brought back for a brief story arc. I would be more interested in seeing another Patricia…Patricia Clarkson, who I thought was great as Claire, a brief love interest to Frasier. I would love for Claire and Frasier to encounter each other by happenstance, and after a wonderful conversation (where Claire expresses her condolences about the passing of Martin, who she was always very fond of), Frasier is convinced that Claire had to have been “the one” and that he messed up in dumping her. Frasier decides to pursue and attempt to woo Claire, only to realize that Claire is in a committed relationship with Neil, the guy who Frasier wooed Claire away from in the original Frasier series.
  13. Back To You was terrible! I guess Grammar feels a certain comfort and kinship with Heaton- 2 right-wingers in Hollywood?
  14. The elections in South Africa and India are interesting in how both the ANC and the BJP won but it appears, not enough to govern outright, each will need a coalition partner. I am still trying to figure out whether this is truly surprising. Apparently, Modi’s toxic rhetoric didn’t achieve what he thought it would and Jacob Zuma appears to thrown some chaos into the path of the ANC, his former party. Interesting times.
  15. Has I not been straight, maybe she would also have been my type.🤣 Once she retired and no longer had to eat, sleep and breathe tennis, she probably had time to find her sense of style. Edit: I meant “had I not been straight”. Man, I just can’t get it right today and I injured myself putting together a table.
  16. Oops, I mean “Are they in Argentina?” 😳But you knew what I meant.😂 And yeah, despite the age difference, I say…Gabi could get it.😂
  17. Wow yeah, we could only imagine what that would yield. Or even someone like Christopher Sarson who originated Masterpiece Theatre. Did you ever see that series I, Claudius? I imagine, in the right hands, the best produced daytime dramas could have risen to those heights. I, Claudius at it’s core, was really fantastic soap opera.
  18. I completely missed any tennis news today, never thought I’d see the day when I paid so little attention to what was going on in this sport. Are they Argentina? Lemme put away that joke about Delpo possibly seeking a sugar mama after his financial troubles. Gabi looks great though.
  19. Oops, my bad. I posted about Ashley and Dr. Steven Lassiter a couple of months ago. https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/66450-yr-april-2024-discussion-thread/?do=findComment&comment=1921656
  20. Wow, how predictable is this show? I mentioned Ashley and Blade in a post ages ago and I don’t even watch this show anymore, just based my comments on what I had been reading in the threads. This is sad.
  21. It’s a shame that the theater and dance programs eventually fell by the wayside, but the opera clearly still garners financial support from the pledged support of deep pocketed viewers but yes, Venza executive producer a lot what once sustained PBS performing arts programming at one time.
  22. One thing that I am definitely hoping for is that MVJ, Sheila Duckworth and the NAACP do not all P&G to have anything to do with the process of archiving and preserving archives. I realize that, unlike their other soaps, this soap will be digital from the very beginning but I wouldn’t trust P&G to have a hand in even maintenance of digital holdings, they are known for being lousy at maintaining archives even when ATWT and GL had turned to digital. Hopefully P&G will be relegated to product placement and sponsorship duties (and hopefully they will be one of many sponsors). Seeing as how P&G neglected their own library of shows, I wouldn’t trust them with making anything close to programming and archive for this new series.
  23. Just curious (because honestly, I don’t care that much) as to whether these corporate “titans” will continue to back him.
  24. The U.S. is becoming more and more of a Western outlier as Mexico elects their first woman leader Claudia Sheinbaum. Mexico's Sheinbaum wins landslide to become country's first woman president
  25. Bookworms unite!😊 Back then, I was also studying music and developing a keen interest in theater (but not musical theater, go figure!). I forgot to tell you @Taoboi that I knew someone who visited PEI and did a self-guided tour of all the landmarks illustrated in the AOGG/AOA series. At the time, she said it was every bit picturesque as it was in the series. It’s likely to still be that way. I had no earthly idea that there were any controversies with PBS until I was a full-grown adult lol. NYC PBS was wild though! In many ways, it was more risqué than anything you were going to see on HBO. I truly miss those daring days. Speaking of those daring days, this article talks about the inception of the series POV and how the show’s creators got advice from other PBS series creators like Frontline, Alive From Off Center and American Playhouse, three of my favorite shows! http://archive.pov.org/blog/news/2017/12/30marathon-marc-weiss-letter/ P.S. If you want to get a kick (of amusement as well as feeling old) take a look at some of the DJH/DH reactions by younger generations on YouTube!
