  1. IIRC, it was one of the CW shows that survived because it did well on Netflix. Once that deal wound down the shows did too.
  2. I'd forgotten about that. I'd love to hear Linda talking about ATWT and GL.
  3. I watched that a few years ago. A strong cast (Alan Ruck even did uncredited guest spots). Some strong moments. What I remember most is probably Wayne "Newman" Knight as the head of a family whose response to everything was to open fire. I am not too surprised if it was canned due to shots at Tori. (I guess that may also be why Melanie Hutsell had no career - well, one reason)
  4. Yes. FOX lost its soul by the mid/late '90s. I will always miss the network of Married With Children, Get a Life, In Living Color, Herman's Head.
  5. No one who looked like Jay Hammer would be cast on a soap today anyway, at least as a leading man. You have to have a generic face and an eight pack.
  6. I think this had already been up in parts but I'm not sure if the whole thing was. THE EDGE OF NIGHT - SEPTEMBER 24 1975 CBS DAYTIME W/original commercials @vetsoapfan
  7. 1980 Beat The Clock episode January 16
  8. I had the same feeling about this story as I did when Emmerdale told an equally bad version about 5-6 years ago - I'd rather they not try than get it wrong.
  9. 1984 ABC promo Sins of the Past
  10. The show was like paint drying to me for much of 1999 and 2000. I was not watching regularly in the rest of the '00s so maybe that period was livelier on a daily basis. I can see why people would miss him, as no one running the show currently seems to care, beyond Korte's love of Carly, I guess.
  11. I like the bits I've seen of Derek. He's saddled with Hillary, but he has some quiet humor and personality - he reminds me of men from '30s comedies. He just never had a chance because he was mostly there to be the loser compared to (ugh) Tony.
  12. I really do think it was Ted LePlat. Those quotes seem like past tense, and Beecroft, Newman and Pinter were still on the show at the time. Marland never had Newman as any kind of sexy stud - he was painted as heinous from early on. Marland was also gracious toward Pinter at ATWT (he was let go but Marland kept him on for over a year and gave him a strong exit storyline) and brought Beecroft in for a hugely important role at ATWT. I may be wrong but I don't think LePlat was ever brought in at ATWT under his watch. Andy's story also seemed to be truncated severely when you think of how he had been built up. Andy was supposed to be incredibly charismatic and have all sorts of power over many women in Springfield. We were meant to see softer sides of him when it came to his mother or Hope or whoever else. LePlat just could not do it. He was an extremely poor casting choice.
  13. Ten - Savannah promo (October 1996) - YouTube Ten - 2000 Malibu Road promo (January 1993)
  14. Thanks @Paul Raven So much we'll never get to see. I would be curious to see the car crash scenes with Bob and Jennifer.
  15. I don't really watch outside of clips, but I don't think so. The only soap impression I've heard of is Kat Slater on UK Drag Race.
  16. Jill Eikenberry on “L.A. Law”, Meryl Streep, Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli, Dustin Hoffman & much more
  17. The main part I remember about this episode was Marlena de Lacroix (I think) talking about how flat the interaction between Erica and Ru was compared to what could have been. I suppose that was intended due to Erica's addiction.
  18. Sorry if this spoils any of @Franko 's wonderful recaps. Speaking of the recaps - I like the bits I've seen of Shelley Taylor Morgan. I wish Lorena could have had more legs and then Shelley wouldn't be known best for having to put up with Michal Logan on Pure Soap. (does Lorena have any involvement with Monica by this point) The show has such a large cast yet from your recaps we can see how few are actually being used. I guess this will have to change once Laurelton is finally over. I appreciate seeing the connections Robin has with characters, which will be important as she grows up. Yet they don't feel treacly, the way we often get with kids on soaps - no one is talking down to her and the show is covering the moments with sugar. A shame what happened with Tia and GH, although she likely wasn't ever going to be a major presence anyway.
  19. I think the opening is cheesy fun (it doesn't hurt that I didn't like the leaves opening [the closing music is gorgeous though]), but I don't believe for a minute this would have appealed to any younger viewer. Disco wasn't even a big thing by 1981. I think under Marland's pen the show did shift to being younger, but you can't feel the shift because the show (to me anyway) is so incredibly dreary. Long has quite a few younger characters, but she has more age groups - characters like Alex being in central roles helps.
  20. Thanks. I couldn't find the page.
  21. Thank you @janea4old I'm so sorry to hear about Marcy's health struggles. Could you post these in the Santa Barbara thread too?
  22. @Paul Raven Thanks for the articles. You're right. The questioning is snide. Reminds me of Jiminy Glick.
  23. Susan Lucci and Donna McKechnie will be among many making appearances in the Broadway play Celebrity Autobiography (reading passages from old memoirs). 'Celebrity Autobiography' Broadway Review: Few Laughs In Starry Tomes
