  1. Some of the current writers truly do seem to put keeping some of their favorite characters, in spite of a laundry list of horrible actions, above any coherency. I would write Ava out, but then I'd also write Sonny and Carly out, so I can understand why Ava might exist as a counterweight to them. I have no idea why Heather is there. Zero. Alley Mills may be a wonderful person. Various writers may love the Wonder Years. They may love Doctor Quinn (RIP Orson Bean). Either way, the character needs to go. When I peruse Twitter I notice a lot of the Liz fans also prefer her with Ric (or want a new man for her). She and JJ definitely had strong chemistry in the old days, but Guza truly salted the earth of that pairing on JJ's return.
  2. To be honest I'd rather they just go with Sonny doing whatever the hell he wants than blaming meds. The show already exploits his mental illness so much as it is.
  3. Another Mary Frann ad. I know she had brown hair earlier in her career but I do wonder if this is a wig.
  4. Beware Hollywood’s digital demolition: it’s as if your favourite films and TV shows never existed | Zach Schonfeld | The Guardian Film is Fabulous has been sharing a number of discoveries from '50s and '60s TV. https://filmisfabulous.org.uk/
  5. For some reason I thought he had passed away a few years ago. I'm not sure why. Ron was a wonderful actor. He was, initially, a delight as Roger, before the show wrote the character into a corner. He was also great as Mike Corbin, a character trope that often doesn't work beyond a guest appearance, no matter how talented the actor is. Yet something clicked here. Ron always knew how to play the impossible in a man whose eyes twinkled, but you never knew quite how much life was behind them. I always appreciated seeing him onscreen - he took my attention even when I had little to no interest in Sonny or Sonny dramas. He had a real warmth to him but never in a way that felt false to the character of Mike or Mike's dark history. Anything I've ever read of Ron Hale as a person was nothing but kind and gracious. Sorry to hear he's gone.
  6. A number of the people praising Vance in the debate (at op-ed pages, or the loathsome Megyn Kelly or Megan McAradle) are women. I don't think he was civil (I think he put on a facade of civility) and I don't think those women speak for all women, but I do think there are a number of white women who tend to break for Trump, and while that may change due to Dobbs, he (and the press) have gone out of their way to whitewash his stance on Dobbs, enough to where I could see it helping (and he does still have his usual portion of their support in some polling). I don't think Vance is going to make any voter who was disgusted by him suddenly support him or Trump, but I think the sham last night, and the way the press has covered it, help with the shiny facade that gives people (and the press) permission to support such a heinous regime. And right now, with the momentum he already had building up (if we believe polling, and some of the possible reports on early voting) that is what Trump needs. Not enough on its own to make a difference, but one part of the puzzle Trump is putting together. I saw a Washington Post poll claiming that voters who watched the debate felt Vance was better on climate change than Walz. That is so insane to me that it makes me see just how many out there are desperate enough to get Trump back in. I've seen some claim Walz should have stopped this if he'd been slicker or not as bumbling, but unless Vance had taken a dump onstage nothing likely would have made a difference. Everything was set up for him and all these voters who have amnesia about Trump or are easily swayed fall for it.
  7. I had so much respect for John Amos, who stood up for what he felt was right on Good Times and still kept his career and dignity, who never gave a bad performance and fit into so many different types of films and TV. Learning that his last years were spent caught in a toxic feud or situation with his son and daughter, and the poor daughter not even learning of his death until everyone else online...it's so wrong. You hear about this happening with your elders time after time but when it's someone who associate with so many strong and proud TV roles it hurts all the more. I'm sorry that the end of his time on this planet had to be that way.
  8. I see Bulwark has piled on as well. It's all such navel gazing and just furthers Republican talking points each time. A reminder of how much even 'allies' put themselves first over their supposed goal. I was going to add this to the other post but apparently I can't edit it...
  9. It tends to be sprinkled everywhere. I just saw a Guardian piece going on about how the Trump campaign is so sure the debate helped them. They know how to make these moments what they want to make them. The debate in of itself won't matter, but anything that benefits Trump or is perceived to benefit him per the press is going to be held onto for dear life by those in power.
  10. I think it may among neutral parties, but most of the media isn't neutral. Beyond those I mentioned before, Politico also went on about Vance winning, his pink tie, and how much Walz could be hurt by his answer about Tiananmen Square (only one of their editors said no one would care). I don't think it's going to move a lot of votes, debates don't, but it's going to help set the storyline they have craved over how Vance is actually a great pick after all, and Harris should have gone with Shapiro or Buttigieg or whoever. At a time when Trump seems to be regaining momentum in polls (if you trust polls) this is another step forward for him.
  11. This probably isn't what you needed but February 26th and 27th are on Youtube.
  12. Thanks for watching so some of us didn't have to @Vee . One talking point that will go around (I saw the father of a Parkland victim pushing this on Twitter) is Walz misspeaking that he has befriended school shooters. I see that the narrative from Deadline, Acosta (as you posted), etc. is that Walz went easy on him and let opportunities slip. I imagine we'll be hearing that one a lot. And CNN going on about how Walz wasn't prepared enough and hadn't done enough interviews (the establishment media are still very sore about not being kissed up to enough). Vance is such a nasty [!@#$%^&*] that going into the debate seeming "normal" and appeasing the voters who are appalled by how visibly decayed Trump is but still want to support him was probably his main goal, and I guess that succeeded, I don't know. Walz was going to be seen as the loser no matter what, because that's what the narrative demands, but he didn't seem to flame out the way Tim Kaine did in 2016. Other than the Biden/Trump debate this June I generally don't think debates make a big difference and I don't think this one will either (I do think reluctant Trump supporters will claim the debate moved them, but they were going to vote for Trump anyway).
  13. @Vee The longer this goes on the more Nuzzi's middle-aged male fanclub will be torn, and torn up. Maybe Nuzzi can go bitch and blame liberals on Bari Weiss' podcast.
  14. Levi's career was already on a downward spiral anyway, but what will hurt him the most is he has no powerful allies. RDJ and Jodie Foster adore Gibson and I imagine they played some part in his comeback. Levi had better just hope Ben Shapiro is still producing movies.
  15. I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm glad they are taking his diagnosis with some humor. For some reason I thought they were no longer together.
  16. He is, but it's one of those things that all branches of propaganda outlets seem united on. They know their talking points.
  17. More of the media push I mentioned in the politics thread.
  18. I do hope Democrats will point out Project 2025's plans and I imagine many are, but you can already see the narrative being pushed (and the left and the right on social media are also endlessly saying the money is going to Israel and Ukraine). Disgusting to know that Trump stomping into a disaster area with his hatemonger cohort (Billy Graham's son) is still hyped as a great move and many people likely fall for it.
  19. Irna Philips would be proud. Now if only she could convince them to push Sonny into oncoming traffic.
  20. I doubt they will care. Nothing about him will probably be long term anyway. Look at how the show treated Jake, who was well-liked by a number of fans. (and now will likely be recast with an actor who is 10-15 years too old for the part to make up for this Aidan). I laughed when I saw tweets that he looks older than Lucky, because he kind of does. To me complaining about killing off legacy children isn't low-hanging fruit, it's a decision that often rots away a show and leads to little to no valuable storyline. I think much of the time complaints about recasting with actors who look too old is valid, but it is especially so in this case as JJ and Herbst look younger than their ages. Having a son who is meant to be 14 but looks their age or older is odd. It might not stand out as much with parent actors who look older, but in this case, it's as if their child was transported from the Depression and given a makeover. I also saw mention that he is older than the actor who plays Gio, which just makes me wonder even more why Gio was even brought in.
  21. All the mention of Bobbie not approving and them being family reminds me of when Gloria Monty almost paired her with her biological cousin, although they were the same age, and hadn't seen each other in decades. I don't think the show is going to pair Lucas and Aidan, as that would be hugely controversial and GH is mostly averse to controversy, but it speaks volumes of just how barren the canvas is in terms of queer men that it's even a possibility. A lot of younger people are smoking again. It's seen as cool in many cases, and the idea seems to be everyone is going to die soon anyway, so who cares. Given the climate in America today they probably just didn't want to take the risk. Emmerdale had a young man, played by an age-appropriate actor, come out, and were immediately attacked by a lot of viewers, an attempt at pairing him with another character around the same age was called grooming, and that character was quickly written out. The main character then vanished for ages and is still barely used now. And that's in the UK. The US is always somewhat worse on these matters. GH has never been good with lgbt characters, and I don't see that changing.
  22. Thank you for the confirmation, and all of your tributes in the thread.
