ALL: Proposed Soaps Over The Years
It was a teen soap along the lines of Fifteen and Swans Crossing. Here's part 1 of the first episode:

Great news!!! The series will air regularly on Decades weeknights following Dark Shadows!! I’m assuming they’ll be going through the entire series. My DVR is READY. It starts this coming Monday, March 2.

Dark Shadows Discussion Thread
RIP to Robert Cobert. DS truly did have a great stable of cues to use, probably one of the most recognizable features of the show. He did a great job of creating themes for characters/settings along with just general background themes. My favorite is probably Angelique's theme. "A Darkness at Collinwood" - iconic.

Saturday Night Live: Discussion Thread
That was...interesting, both of them. The performances were funny but yeah, I'm so confused as to the stories they were trying to tell. Why two Dixie Carters? Why Alexis and Dominique as men working in a coal mine? I'm so confused.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I recently thumbed through my copy of Worlds Without End and came across an appropriate quote from Carolyn Culliton: "I'm from the MIdwest, and it used to drive me crazy when cities like Springfield and Bay City, which are in the Midwest, sounded like New York. If you say it's in the Midwest, you must write about the Midwest. I think it is important to understand the customs of the area. You've got to know where Chicago is because everybody in the Midwest knows where it is. Taking cabs and living in lofts are details of New York life that do not belong in a Midwestern setting. I think the audience says, 'That's not true,' and they don't want to watch as much."

I didn't catch those, but man, they had tons of great guest stars in almost every episode.

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
I love DPP!!! I could live off of DPP, Hoarders, and 600-lb Life every day for the rest of my life. Some episodes really are too gross for me to ever want to see again, though. There was the one guy who lived in the trailer park and had (I think) a lipoma that was already partially exposed and smelled like "ten dead rats." I'm glad she was able to fix that for him, and IIRC, he even hooked up with one of the ladies in the trailer park afterward, but I'm never watching that one ever again.

Classic TV
Currently watching THE ROOKIES on Decades Weekend Binge, and I forgot how much I enjoyed this show way back in the early 2000s when TV Land aired it. Even then, they only showed the first season (something they were doing with a ton of shows at that time), and Decades has been airing the third and fourth seasons with Bruce Fairbairn as Chris Owens all weekend. I thought I wouldn't be too interested in it without Michael Ontkean, whom I remember loving on the show, but it's still very good. Such a great ensemble cast, and the real hunk here is the late Sam Melville, who was great with Kate Jackson. Next two weekends are Vega$ and Here Come the Brides. We had both several months ago, but I didn't get to watch much of either the first time around, so I'm still looking forward to them, especially HCTB, which is one of my faves.

Why are soap fans so averse to online streaming?
DAYS is not my favorite soap by a mile, but even I would subscribe to Peacock to be able to see the first 15 years or so. Disney+ is rolling in dough and doesn't care about me, I know, but I need them to understand that I will continue to boycott their service until they figure out a way to make classic AMC available. I don't give a sht anything else that they could give me. Doesn't GH have most of its episodes from the 1960s, when it was produced by Selmur, saved? I remember seeing a list of available episodes that included most of 1963-1970.

Developing: 90210 Reboot with Original Cast!
Fox's statement is exactly what I would expect and tells me that they saw this the same way we did from the very beginning. Tori and the cast saw this as something that could last for a long time whereas the network was like "This is a cute little thing to do for a little while." They went into it with the mindset that it was a limited series event, and I have to applaud them for that. Sucks for the cast, but they have to accept that their audience wants to see them as those characters. I wonder if there was ever any clear communication between Tori and the network in regards to the sustainability of this project.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
Thanks. I figured that was still the weekday time but wasn't sure if it still aired on the weekends. Are the weekend airings from earlier in the run (I seem to remember that they started those back in 1967 when the weekday episodes were in the early 70s).

The Doctors Discussion Thread
As someone who remembers the rumors back in 2003-2004ish about the Hallmark Channel picking up "The Doctors" reruns from the 70s, it's still so hard to believe this show has been so successful at getting a second life all these years later. I wonder if their livestream will eventually make it to Pluto TV.

Vetsoapfan's Treasure Trove: Vintage Soap Material
I'm pretty sure the episode still exists. That Irna quote about people not being either bad or good comes from a clip that was shown during the 50 Years of Soaps special from 1994 (Eileen Fulton can be seen in the background).

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
Oh, I did. One of the first Dynasty clips I ever saw was of Fallon's staccato gasp of "Sammy Jo!" before they start going at it, so it was nice to see it in context. I'm actually really disappointed in how much they're focusing Fallon on that annoying 80s cop Zorelli. I will say that Emma Samms has been great as Fallon, and they've written the character as much more like PSM's early portrayal, so I do like that, but I haaaaaaate Zorelli. I just realized that I had already posted about finishing That Girl and possibly moving on to OTH. I'm pretty positive that I'm just going to do White Shadow and Addams Family at the same time first then go from there. I really want to dip my toes in to starting Ryan's Hope from the first episode, but I also have 90s AMC to start on.

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
I finished That Girl a few weeks ago and miss it terribly. Close to finishing Dynasty (not impressed with season nine, y'all, sorry :(). I'm very undecided on where I want to go after. I'm stuck between The White Shadow (54 episodes, should be a quick watch, will probably be the winner), The Addams Family (an extremely quick watch and should be fun), or catching up on current shows such as Good Trouble.

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
I didn't hear of his passing when it happened. I've enjoyed watching Prisoner, Sons and Daughters, and Neighbours lot over the years, and I thank him for bringing his brand of soap opera to the world. I'd love to see more of The Young Doctors and The Restless Years, which I believe he also had a hand in.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Classic Coronation Street, more than any other soap, regardless of national origin, reminds me of where I grew up. Somehow, the white people on an urban street in the north of England were just like the black people of a rural trailer park in south Louisiana. Those blurred lines between community and family - the realization that your community IS your family, the very strong matriarchal structure, the unashamed working class mindset (people always struggling to make it through), the reverence given to older people, the sentimentality of thinking of days gone by, etc. To me, that’s what set Corrie apart from the other U.K. soaps more than anything else, yet of course, that identity was deemed uncool and so it was washed away.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
That Linda Dano/Erika Slezak pic is like seeing your favorite teachers from high school getting together to talk sh!t for the holidays while enjoying retirement.

Dynasty Discussion Thread
I'm currently making my way through the early episodes of season nine, and it does have a better feel than the previous two seasons. Jeff and Fallon were very needed after The Colbys ended, and it's nice to see them back in the center of the action in the final season. There wasn't enough of them in season eight, and I'm liking this little triangle with Sammy Jo, though Jeff and Sammy Jo makes no sense at all. On the other hand, Jeff is the sexiest he's ever been, even in all of those unfortunate outfits they have him wearing. Karen Atkinson is an awful bitch and I wish she would have been murdered, honestly. It's not often that the show has painted Adam as a victim, but that entire storyline took a turn for the miserable once everyone jumped on Karen's side in the custody hearing. Dana is useless to me, too. Yay, Leslie is gone! I like to believe she died in that cabin. It's nice to see Alexis sparring with Sable and sexing with Dex, completely out of her depression and the Sean mess. I know we don't see much of her in this season, but I'm glad she's at least back to her old self. As I near the end of the series, I find myself waffling between being extremely sad that it's ending (it's taken me a decade to watch the entire thing) and extremely eager to go back and rewatch the first two seasons just to get a taste of them again since it's been so long since I've seen them.

Dynasty Discussion Thread
The end of season 7 really sucked! Dominique gone with no fanfare at all. I am already sick of Leslie and her desperation to belong in the family. Every "Uncle Blake" makes me cringe, but I adored it when she ran up on Fallon, desperate for some kind of familial welcome, and Fallon paid her dust. So am I really supposed to believe that Blake and Alexis are told that Adam really isn't Adam and all they do is decide to adopt "Michael Torrance?" They have no interest in finding the real Adam? This man who's only been in their lives for five years, they never raised him, he's been way more trouble than he's worth the entire time, etc, and they're all "Aw you've always been our son!" No, he hasn't! The Sarah story was depressing, and did they really need to give us two big "OMG what about Krystina!?!?!" stories? Lonely Alexis was also depressing and just represents how far away from the heyday we are, and it was a quick separation. The only thing getting me through season eight is that everyone has always said that season nine was fantastic.
