  1. Congratulations are in order for former “All My Children” and “Days of our Lives” actress turned reality TV starlet Chrishell Stause who won the Best Reality Star award at the 2022 “MTV Movie & TV Awards” which aired Sunday, June 5 on MTV. Her Netflix series, “Selling Sunset,” won Best Docu-Reality Show. In her acceptance speech, Stause thanked the show’s executive producer, Adam DiVello, Netflix, the show’s cast and MTV, among others. She said, “[Without] the whole cast I wouldn’t be standing here… you can’t do a reality show without every single person that makes it work, so, thank you guys so much! And just really quick, I knew about this nomination before I had said anything about my sexuality – I’m not trying to get really deep with you guys, but the fact that this was voted on after means so much to me because I wasn’t sure, you know, how that was going to go, and I thank you guys so much. I appreciate it.” In early May, Stause revealed she’s dating G Flip, a non-binary Australian singer. Calling them “an extremely talented musician,” Stause stated, “I recently have been spending a lot of time with someone that’s very important to me. Their name is G Flip. They’re nonbinary, so they go by they/them.” Prior to her relationship with G Flip, Stause had been dating her “Selling Sunset” boss/co-star Jason Oppenheim and had been married to former “This Is Us” and “The Young and the Restless” actor Justin Hartley. “I. AM. SO. HONORED!!!” Stause later said on Twitter after winning her award. “Truly thank you to everyone that voted and thank you so much @MTV & @netflix.” To watch Stause’s acceptance speech, click the play button below. 2. Josh Kelly made his “General Hospital” debut as Cody Bell at the tail end of the Wednesday, June 1 episode of the daytime drama series when the character parachuted into the Metro Court Hotel pool, making a memorable impression on Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). So how did the former “Midnight, Texas” star land himself a gig in Port Charles? Similar to co-star Cameron Mathison who joined the soap last year as a recast Drew Cain, a text exchange with the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, who previously oversaw production at “One Life to Live” where Kelly moonlighted as Cutter Wentworth from 2010-2011, made things a little easier for the actor. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Kelly told the publication that he began thinking about a return to daytime soaps after hearing from a friend who had auditioned for a character on the soap last year. “He was like, ‘Dude, you should go in for this role,’” Kelly remembers of the conversation without naming the friend or the character they auditioned for. “And I was like, ‘You know what? I miss working regularly.” Thus, he decided to reach out to Valentini after realizing he wanted a more steady gig that would keep him in the Los Angeles area where he resides. “I’ve had to go to Memphis or Albuquerque or Atlanta [to film on location] and I love traveling, but my home is in Los Angeles and I’ve never gotten to work here,” Kelly says. “I also missed being part of a little acting troupe family. So I actually texted [Executive Producer] Frank Valentini. I was like, ‘Hey, why am I not on ‘GH?’” Recalling their exchange, Kelly notes, “He was like, ‘Are you serious? You’d have to do a contract.’ And I was like, ‘Let’s do it!’ They were like, ‘We’re going to come up with a cool character for you’ – and they did!’” Referencing Valentini’s enthusiasm for working with him again, Kelly says, “It meant a lot to me. I’d always felt like I wanted to do more [in daytime]. ‘One Life to Live’ was canceled kind of right when I was getting my legs underneath me and getting into my stride. So this, in a weird way, feels like I’m fulfilling my original contract. Frank and I, we’ve kept in touch and I’ve actually visited the set of ‘GH’ a couple of times because I’ve had some friends working there, and I did some work on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and they shoot at the same lot. Whenever I’m over there, I always send him a text message and I’d come in and we’d talk, but the timing [to possibly join ‘GH’] has never been right. And now the timing seems kind of perfect.” Despite acting on “GH” for the first time, Kelly has personally known or is friends with a number of the show’s cast, including Michael Easton (Finn) and Roger Howarth (Austin) who Kelly worked alongside during their time together at “OLTL,” and he’s worked with both Tanisha Harper (Jordan) and Sofia Mattsson (Sasha) in other TV projects. Additionally, he has mutual friends with Chad Duell (Michael) and he shared a meal years ago with Kirsten Storms (Maxie), just to name a few. Beyond that, Kelly has also been a fan of the show since childhood when his sister would force him into watching the soap before he could eventually watch his favorite “Batman” cartoon. He also noted that when his father was in the Navy, his squadron was “addicted to the Luke and Laura saga.” Overall, Kelly is appreciative of what it means to be working on the legacy series. “I always like to think about what ‘little kid Josh’ would think in the moment,” he states. “It keeps me very happy on long days or times like last night, when I was late to a premiere for a movie I was in because I was working on ‘General freakin’ Hospital!’ ‘Little kid Josh’ wouldn’t be upset about that, and so ‘big kid Josh’ wasn’t, either!” For more from Kelly’s interview with Digest, pick up the latest issue, on newsstands now. In addition to his role on “GH,” and his previous role as Cutter Wentworth on both the ABC version of “One Life to Live” and the short-lived 2013 online reboot, Kelly has also starred as Jeremy Caner in the Lifetime drama “UnREAL.” More recently, Kelly appeared in the dramas “What/If,” “Army Wives” and cross-over episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19.” He also starred opposite Emilie Ullerup in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original movie “Christmas Bells Are Ringing.” Note: The post Josh Kelly Reveals How a Text Exchange with ‘General Hospital’ EP Frank Valentini Led to a Contract Role appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 4. Now that Finn has been revealed to be very much alive after viewers of “The Bold and the Beautiful” were initially led to believe that the character had died following his being shot by his biological mother, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), portrayer Tanner Novlan will be on hand to discuss his return to the soap during the Wednesday, June 8 broadcast of “BOLD Live" airing at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT on YouTube. The episode was originally scheduled to air live on Friday, June 3. Hosted by the soap’s supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk, the weekly YouTube series which regularly airs every Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT is the only official talk show that gives fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful” the opportunity to consistently interact with their favorite actors by way of picking up the phone, dialing a number and talking to them live on air. The show airs live from Television City in Los Angeles where “B&B” tapes. In early April, Finn was shot after he came upon Sheila as she was preparing to shoot his wife, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), who herself was confronting Sheila over her involvement in breaking Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) sobriety. Begging for her life, Steffy didn’t have time to mourn her presumed-dead husband as Sheila also shot her, leaving the couple laying in a pool of their own blood in an alleyway. Steffy has since recovered and Sheila is in jail pending trial. Except for Finn’s adopted mother, Li (Naomi Matsuda), and those she trusts, it’s not yet known, particularly by Steffy, that Finn is still alive. Steffy recently made plans to leave town in order to clear her mind following recent events. To set yourself a reminder to tune in to “BOLD Live,” click here. 5. If you’ve been tuning in to “General Hospital” this week you might have noticed a different face playing the role of Michael Corinthos on the ABC drama series. As noted by the voice announcer, “The Young and the Restless” and “Hollywood Heights” alum Robert Adamson stepped in for Chad Duell beginning with the Wednesday, June 1 episode and now we know why the temporary replacement was needed. In a tweet, Duell revealed that he will be back taping beginning next week and that Adamson stepped in due to COVID-related reasons. “I’m good.. I’ll be back filming next week. Was covid related,” said Duell regarding his on-screen absence. Noting Adamson’s performance, Duell commented, “Robert did great” and included clapping hands emojis. From 2012-2020, Adamson portrayed Noah Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” Shortly before joining the daytime drama series, he played Phil Sanders in the short-lived Nick @ Nite teen drama “Hollywood Heights.” He’s probably best known outside of soaps for his role as Charli Antoni in the drama “Lincoln Heights.” More recently, Adamson has appeared in episodes of “All Rise,” “Stumptown” and “Dave.” He’ll next appear in the movie “Tub Life” alongside former “GH” star Robert Palmer Watkins (ex-Dillon Quartermaine). 6. Although he’s gone on to a lucrative voice acting career where he can be heard voicing characters from “Star Wars,” “Marvel’s Avengers” and “Gotham Knights” TV and video game series, former “Days of our Lives” actor Christopher Sean has never shied away from his daytime roots. In fact, he’s set to reprise his role as Paul Narita in “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” when the series returns for Chapter 2 next month. Following news of his reprisal, Sean thanked the power’s that be at the daytime drama series and Peacock for bringing him back into the “DAYS” fold, even if briefly. “Honored that @nbcdays brought back Paul Narita for #BeyondSalem on the @peacockTV app,” said Sean. “Three cheers to my DOOL family and all the fans that have showed so much love and welcomed me back with such a warm embrace. Much Love.” While details of his return remain under wraps, we do know that Paul’s father, private eye John Black (Drake Hogestyn), travels to San Francisco to see his son which later integrates seamlessly with the overall umbrella storyline which is full of larger-than-life romance, jaw-dropping twists, and high-stakes drama that all connects back to a memorable plot that originated on “Days of our Lives” long ago. Since leaving “Days of our Lives” in November 2018, Sean has starred as a voice actor in several lucrative TV and video game franchises, including “Fallout 76,” “Star Wars Resistance,” “Star Wars: Visions,” “Marvel’s Avengers,” “Ghost Tsushima” and “Gotham Knights.” He was a featured player in the third season of the Netflix thriller “You,” and more recently appeared in an episode of “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” includes five all-new episodes releasing daily starting Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 on Peacock. The second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.775 million) also saw week-to-week gains, +4,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. The show was down a mere -3,000 viewers versus its performance during the same week last year, however. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.097 million) and “The Young and the Restless” (3.473 million) continue seeing massive year-to-year increases, up +357,000 and +260,000, respectively, compared to the same week last year. In fact, compared to their fifth consecutive week of classic episodes (reruns) in 2020, both soaps are seeing an increase of up to 1.5 million viewers each. “General Hospital” (2.088 million) saw a big drop in viewers week-to-week, and a rare year-to-year decline, due to airing a rerun on Wednesday, May 25 in place of an original as a result of ongoing ABC News coverage from Uvalde, Texas. The rerun was included in the show’s weekly average. With several preemptions impacting its airing schedule due to ongoing NBC News coverage from Uvalde, Texas, “Days of our Lives” (1.593 million) saw the biggest week-to-week drop of any daytime broadcast series, down -164,000 viewers, and fell behind both “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “The Talk” in Total Viewers. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 23-27, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” began their months-long era of classic episodes which continued through late July 2020 and early August 2020, respectively. Comparable 2020 figures for “General Hospital” will return in August as the show aired reruns for most of the summer that year and was not rated (NR) by Nielsen. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. In fact, just 205,000 viewers separated the soap from its lead-in, “The Young and the Restless” (3.525 million), marking the smallest gap between the two shows among viewers since at least the week of October 5-9, 2020. 16. Agreed. There wasn't a need for some loving boyfriend and son situation outside of the convenience of why she didn't take Henry's calls the night he died. I still don't get why Henry can drive but couldn't have the concept of him calling 911 as a solution during his time of need. I understand that it's due to his not being able to adapt well to strangers but the same strangers would be the people he'd meet at the hospital, so... I understand the reasoning for script purposes but I don't get it from my perspective. I guess I just have to "get" that Henry's thought process isn't like my own due to the intellectual disability.
  17. Agreed. I felt the movie was very light on the drama, but that’s to be expected for a Hallmark movie. Ironically, the only person I felt was the villain type was the news reporter. It’s sad how true her disdain for “happy news” was since it’s the reality we live in here in the real world. Of course, besides Chandler’s character needing more time before his death occurred, and I’d have liked to see them show the accident, I really was impressed with O’Grady’s delivery with that handicapped speech. Things you don’t think about as it’s in our everyday language but it’s origins are rooted in a place that might be hurtful to others. Particularly those who might not be able to do anything about it themselves.
  18. Working full-time as a data scientist in Atlanta, Chandler Massey appears intermittently as Will Horton on “Days of our Lives” and is excited to be back in the Hallmark fold following the success of Hallmark Channel’s “Next Stop, Christmas,” which ranked in the top 10 of 2021’s most-watched Christmas movies, averaging 2.79 million viewers. This time he’s starring in “Heart of the Matter” for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries,” which premieres tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT on the cable network. So, what’s it been like for the three-time Daytime Emmy award winner now that he’s officially become a Hallmark star? “Both of the [Hallmark] projects that I was fortunate enough to work on I’ve really had the time of my life,” Massey shares. “Obviously, ‘Next Stop, Christmas’ was so much fun and I thought it was really charming, and [‘Heart of the Matter’] was probably the biggest acting challenge for me of my career. And one of the most touching scripts I think I’ve ever read.” In “Heart of the Matter,” we meet a cardiologist named Andie Hodges (Aimeé Teegarden) who has a great passion for the patients she treats and prides herself on giving them the best of care. Following the accidental death of Massey’s character, Henry, a young patient of Andie’s with an intellectual disability, the accomplished doctor is left shaken and doubting her ability as a medical provider. Things get even more chaotic when Henry’s mother, Gladys (Gail O’Grady), files a malpractice lawsuit against Andie which leads to potential sanctions from the medical review board. Aimeé Teegarden, Gail O’Grady (“Heart of the Matter”) Photo by Bettina Strauss/Crown Media “It’s really powerful. It’s about two women and their journey through grief and forgiveness, and love and acceptance,” Massey says before giving us some background about his neurodiverse character. “[Henry] experiences lower than average IQ but is relatively high functioning. He has a job. He’s just recently moved into his own place and he places a lot of importance on his independence and making a life for himself.” Unfortunately, as previously noted, Henry’s independence is short-lived. Despite all the sadness surrounding his character’s death and where things go from there, Massey quite enjoyed working with and learning from his co-stars, Teegarden and O’Grady, both of whom he says he had an “amazing” time working with. “[They] were phenomenal actors and really, really great people. I think I learned a lot from watching them and they are obviously both powerhouses in their scenes so it was just a treat to be able to work with them.” Photo by Bettina Strauss/Crown Media Massey also learned a lot from the time he spent researching for the role. In the movie, there is a speech made by Henry’s mother to a TV reporter in which she explains the background of where the term “handicapped” came from and why that word is not liked by people who are often labeled that way. “The history of words is important,” he says. “It was a huge learning experience for me. Definitely the biggest challenge I’ve had and I think the furthest I’ve gone away from just my natural self in playing a character.” Meanwhile, the bond Henry shares with Andie and his mom will be on display throughout the movie, giving viewers the chance to see how Henry is able to connect with others. For instance, in one scene Henry and his mother plan to watch a movie together, “Spiderman,” which was named in the script as the one Henry wanted to watch most. However, O’Grady and Massey were able to put some emphasis on the why part. “We decided that ‘Spiderman’ was a movie that Henry always suggested watching,” Massey shares. “He’s a big Spiderman fan so we sort of took what was in the script and tried to build on that a little bit.” Aimeé Teegarden, Chandler Massey (“Heart of the Matter”) Photo by Bettina Strauss/Crown Media As for Henry’s friendship with Andie, Gladys, in grieving over her son, isn’t aware that the two were friends and blames the doctor for not being there when Henry needed her most. So, if Henry could speak to his mother about the lawsuit, he would probably try to talk her out of going that route, Massey thinks. “What will become very apparent for anyone who watches the movie is that Henry and Andie really have a special relationship. He trusts her a lot. I think they respect each other and so I think Henry would understand his mother’s pain, for sure, but try to convince her that there are better ways to heal and Andie is not the target.” With tonight’s premiere, Massey will be tuning in from home like everyone else. In fact, it’ll be the first time he’ll have seen the movie in its entirety. “I read the script so I know what happens [but] I haven’t actually seen any footage yet except for a few minutes when I did some ADR stuff. But yeah, I’ll be watching it with everyone else.” He’ll especially be tuning in to see what character traits were kept in. “I do like to keep a piece of me in every role that I play, sort of like a cornerstone from which to build outwards,” he says, adding, “I doubt you’ll be shocked by this [laughs], but I do stray… I think my time on ‘DAYS’ ingrained in me this tendency to go off script a little bit in the moment if it feels right, so it’s hard to know what made it… and I won’t know what made it into the final cut until I watch it but I think there are mannerisms and phrases I inserted that weren’t necessarily in the script but I thought that it helped me kind of ground Henry and sort of find that cadence of how he speaks, how he moves, and things like that.” Speaking happily on his being able to work full time while still being able to secure acting gigs here and there, Massey says, “I think it’s nice that I have a stable day job because opportunities like this one kind of came out of nowhere. It’s hard to predict what I’ll be doing six months from now.” Of course, considering “DAYS” is filmed about six months out, can he provide a prediction on that front? “Yes, I guess I can predict that,” he says. “I’ll be on ‘DAYS’ until they kick me off.” Speaking of which, even though he’s currently appearing sparingly as he’s on recurring status with the daytime drama series, since returning to the set last fall with scenes airing in March, Massey reveals that he has been back a few times since then. “I think I’m averaging about once every six weeks or something like that,” Massey notes, noting that his most recent stint was taped just over a month ago. As for fans complaining about Sonny (Zach Tinker) appearing without Will, Massey points out, “Believe it or not they are two separate people, so they can be on their own.” He adds, “I definitely get it. Obviously, Will and Sonny are the main partners for each other but I’m also sure that Zach is appreciating getting to explore Sonny on his own for a little bit outside of the coupling.” Meanwhile, playing Henry in “Heart of the Matter,” Massey hopes fans will take a journey as we meet his latest character. “[With Henry] I think I took some risks. I went big. I told myself, ‘This is either going to be one of the best things I’ve ever done or the worst things I’ve ever done,’ so I’m kind of terrified. So, I think I’ll just be watching it alone in a dark room with a blanket over my head, probably.” “Heart of the Matter” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and also stars Andrew Zachar as Patrick, Andie’s loving and supportive boyfriend. James Wilberger is the executive producer. Alexandre Coscas, Ben C. Silverman, Michael R. Goldstein and Simon Richardson are producers. Mark Jean directed from a script by Karen Struck.
