GH: Confused about Ric

I've been catching GH lately. I am confused about Ric. What is it that Ric has supposedly done to Sonny. The last time I saw of ths was that Ric seemed concerned about Sonny's behavio. What has developed since then?

Jason and Carly are trying to prove Ric bought the white dress that looked like the one Lily wore the night of the car bomb explosion. Ric did, in fact, do that, but he convinced Sonny he was the one who bought the dress for Emily and forgot about it -- not Ric. Jason and Carly... in their expert opinion, believe this one incident is what made Sonny's breakdown the worst EVER! So now, they're out to prove Ric did this, thereby forcing Sonny into this breakdwon.

You know... not the fact that that's simply the nature of the disorder if left unchecked.

This whole storyline sucked from the start. This little "twist" just makes it even worser.

Thanx guys. I was actually enjoying the fact that Ric and Sonny were bonding. Sucks that Guza has ruined Ric's character once again.

This whole MD storyline has been just plain bad, imo. This whole dress thing is just silly. I hate Ric, but it's still irritating for TIIC to go this route.

Schemering in his Soap Opera Encyclopedia (and I've heard others say this) did say that in the 1970s AMC always looked cheap and it wasn't until a big overhaul a bit after they went to an hour (and ABC bought the show) that the sets by the 80s were up to snuff.

1970s Trends

RH was kind of in a league of it's own because it took place in NYC so they introduced a lot of topics and attempted some form of diversity in the late 70s... but seemed more focused on religious diversity with Pat.. an Irish Catholic dating Nancy.. a Jewish girl... and Maeve and Sibohan having a debate about it in the kitchen as they're washing dishes.
They also dealt with women's roles, battle of the sexes, even did a right to die story I believe, but I don't recall any discos being shown on the show.. even when Rae's daughter Kim joins the scene.
1970s were more social issue oriented... some soaps more so than other soaps in presenting them... but based on some of the early RH episodes I saw... it was a tad too militant same with the summaries I came across for How to Survive a Marriage.

ARTICLE: Elia Cantu Exits ‘Days Of Our Lives’ As Jada Hunter

Months after it was revealed that she had dropped to recurring status at “Days of our Lives,” actress Elia Cantu announced on Wednesday that she has officially exited the daytime drama series as Jada Hunter.
“As I say goodbye to ‘Days of our Lives,’ I’m excited and looking forward to the next chapter,” said Cantu. “Leaving ‘DAYS’ is bittersweet, but I step away full of gratitude and joy for what’s ahead.”
“Jada Louise Hunter. It’s been an honor. She is bold, layered, and I’ll forever cherish bringing her to life,” continued the actress, speaking about her character, whom she portrayed for the last four years, having begun her run in 2022. “She remains a staple in Salem, and I’ll carry everything she taught me as I go. Jada, you will always be my girl.” The character is the daughter of the legacy character Marcus Hunter, played by the late Richard Biggs from 1987-1992.
In March, when word broke that Cantu and co-star Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez) were no longer on contract, a spokesperson for the show noted, “We never comment on actor contract status, but rest assured, Rafe and Jada are still in Salem.” The change in their status wasn’t cause for concern at the time, as a number of cast members were not under contract but involved in hot storylines, including Brandon Beemer (Shawn Brady) and Casey Moss (JJ Deveraux).
Though the situation may have since changed for Cantu, there’s no indication at present that Gering will also be exiting the show. Cantu’s exit from the show reportedly won’t be felt until at least spring 2027, as the daytime drama series tapes episodes roughly 10 months before they air on Peacock.
“To the cast & crew – Thank you for your hard work and long hours. What a journey it has been,” said Cantu, continuing her statement on social media. “To the ‘DAYS’ fans – Thank you. You are incredibly supportive, caring, and dedicated. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. There’s more to come, and I hope you’ll come along with me for what’s next. Love, Elia Cantu.”
On Instagram, Cantu shared a short video of her taking her final bow with the caption, “Godspeed” and a “heart’ emoji.
Co-star Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez) responded to Cantu's announcement, saying in the comments, "I am so lucky to have shared the stage with you in so many wonderful scenes. You are a light & so incredibly talented. Can’t wait to see what magic comes your way."
Before joining "Days of our Lives" as a series regular, Cantu made appearances in such shows as "Criminal Minds," "Black-ish," "Lucifer," "This is Us," "Lethal Weapon," "A Black Lady Sketch Show," "9-1-1" and "Mom," among others.

DAYS: June 2026 Discussion Thread

So, the plagiarism lawsuit actually is going to get dropped.
And I think that's too bad because, despite how clunky this storyline was, it really was one of the most compelling and interesting on Days right now. I liked the way that so many characters and their own smaller storylines were weaved into it. It could've had huge ripple effects across the canvas. But I'm still curious to see what's going to happen for everybody in the aftermath of all this.
Kate's confession to Roman was the best part of today. Despite Josh Taylor's voice lol he and Lauren Koslow had me hooked. It felt like classic Kate, where she felt guilty about hurting Roman but deep down still feels like she did the right thing and that nothing would change her mind about that. It's a pretty interesting dynamic for a character to have. And I hope that Kate is correct when she revealed to Xander that she fears that the fallout is just beginning
I didn't really care all that much about EJ and Lexie, even though I felt that Nikki Crawford didn't come off as cold and withdrawn as she usually is. But I would much rather EJ had spent the whole episode comforting Holly or sparring with Xander.
Speaking of Holly and Xander, I enjoyed Holly's scenes with Sarah. I like their relationship and that Days is continuing to feature it. And I'm curious to see how Sarah's going to react once she finds out about Gwen and Kristen. I'm glad that she had Holly to talk to today about her feelings for Xander. Btw, I wonder if Holly and Ari's trip to the Horton cabin is going to end up meaning something.
As for Gabi/Theo, I'm still not exactly shipping them but I am interested in seeing what happens with the two of them, especially since Xander is still blackmailing Gabi. Theo is one Dimera that actually should be featured a lot.

5 years later and I finally found a mention about True Story in an 1959 interview with Wes Kenney.
Considering it lasted 4 years, that series truly flew under the radar,
TRUE STORY —In a discussion of his "True Story" weekly half-hour, Kenney explained that many of his actors come from off-Broadway stage production!. He mentioned Carol Lawrence of "West Side Story*' and Dick Van Dyke, emcee of the "Laugh Line" panel show as actors in past shows.
"We use a cast of four to seven players a week," he said. The cast rehearses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and puts the show on tape on Sunday for the following Saturday's "True Story" episode of personal conflict." Kenney said he is interested in scripts from free lance writers and pays $800 per script, a little over scale for a half-hour TV story.

Jean Simmons joins prime-time soaper

After 37 years as an actress, Jean Simmons has agreed to star in her first television series. Miss Simmons, star of more than a score of movies here and in her native England, and a nominee for an Academy Award for her performance in The Happy Ending, finally said yes to “Golden Gate.” A two-hour pilot movie has just been completed and will be broadcast early next year by ABC.
MISS SIMMONS stars as the matron of an aristocratic San Francisco publishing family in this proposed primetime soap opera in the mold of “Dallas.” The pilot show tells the story of the Kingsleys, played by Richard Kiley and Miss Simmons, owners of the fictional San Francisco Bulletin, and their two children, Perry King and Mary Crosby, who was Kristin, the woman who shot J.R. on “Dallas.” Miss Simmons said she and executive producer Lin Bolen had a certain unnamed grande dame of publishing in mind as the model for Jane Spencer Kingsley.
“I’VE NEVER DONE a series before so I don’t know what to expect,” Miss Simmons said in an interview in her Santa Monica home. “I would hope that my character would sort of pop in and out.” She said she’s never purposely avoided a TV series. “I’ve never really thought about it. But as I get on in life I find the less I want to work. I’d like to do a lot of traveling.” Her role in the film frequently calls for her to be an intermediary between her husband and son, who are at sword’s point.
“THERE’S A RIFT in the family,” she said, “mainly because of the son’s love for his mother and the way the father treats her.“We did a lot of kidding on the set about how we could get Richard to sing. (Kiley was Broadway’s “Man of La Mancha.”) He only sings in the shower in the movie, and when I don’t hear him I discover that he’s had a stroke.” Miss Simmons formerly was married to writer-director Richard Brooks, and has two daughters, Tracy and Kate, named after Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. She starred with Tracy in The Actress.
“I WAS BORN within the sound of the Bow Bells in London,” she said. “That makes me a real Cockney. I grew up with a Cockney accent. When the Rank Organization put me under contract I had to talk like a lady. We had to take elocution lessons. “Michael Caine broke the rules in Alfie. He was a hero with a Cockney accent. Things became much better after that.”
HER FIRST MOVIE was Give Us the Moon, and her first American movie was Androcles and the Lion, for Howard Hughes. “Howard Hughes bought my contract,” she said. “I woke up one morning and found myself working for Hughes. I’d met him earlier and found him to be very nice.” She said she considers Elmer Gantry to be her favorite movie, but she said she also particularly likes The Actress. While filming Gantry, she and Brooks fell in love and marfried.- they are now divorced.
ANOTHER MAJOR MOVIE was Spartacus, during which she said she learned the art of patience from Sir Laurence Olivier. “I worked in that film with Peter Ustinov,” she said “He was difficult to work with — because he was so brilliant and so funny. He always had some witticism and before each scene I’d have to dig my nails into my hands to keep from laughing.” Simmons’ television projects include the mini-series “Beggarman, Thief” and “The Dane Curse.”

Pre VCRs and I would have been a pre-teen or early teen, so school would have interfered with my viewing habits, but I remember Ruth Martin, a nurse?, on the verge of having an affair with a doctor played by the Principal in The Breakfast Club many years later. I don't k ow if they actually "did it" if they did I missed it.
A lot of AMC was cheap looking in those days. Phoebe's then mansion seemed cramped with a few attempts to look wealthy, like the cheap clock embedded in the fireplace mantle but it felt more like a suggestion of prosperity.
The big gold snd black IN GOD WE TRUST sign in every courtroom scene was also a bit tacky.
But it didn't really matter in the long run.
Not when rich snobby former jet-setter Iris on AW had a trashy above ground pool on her patio.

Loved Christina Pickles as Elena and loved Dennis but I never found that story credible with Mike Hammet as Dennis. At first I did not like when Jim Poyner replaced him, but came to embrace Poyner quite quickly. The new Jamie Frame was another story. He was awful. ( but my friends said he looked like me) but then Richard Bekins came along and blew every other Jamie away.

All My Children Tribute Thread

Only recently was I reminded about some of the drama when Fickett retired from AMC. I think it was shortly after the anniversary week at the start of 1995 (when it felt like literally dozens of past characters came to the homewarming of the Martins new home, after the previous one was destroyed in the fire.) I believe shortly afterwards was when Lee Merriwether took over the role, and then from my bad memory, Fickett DID come back in a recurring status for a while, before Lee took over permanently. I feel very guilty admitting that I didn't... well mind Lee in the role, even if it really wasn't the same (for the most part AMC seemed to do well by their vets, and it does seem with Fickett it was her decision not to return again.) It is tragic how she seemed to be pretty incapacitated (with Alzheimer's and other health issues) for the final years of her life, and died IIRC just days before the ABC finale for the soap which was dedicated to her.

She was only in her early 40s when she started playing Ruth, which I suppose says something about how the age of actors (and age of people in general) has changed over the past 50 years, although for the first decades of AMC, although we don't have a lot of remaining episodes to easily check out, they certainly gave her a lot of her own stories.
