For the most part I like it.

It's not perfect, but compared to DAYS it's a masterpiece.

That may have been true a year ago, but I'm enjoying DAYS way more than I am OLTL right now. At least DAYS realized that it was having a problem.

I think that the show should bring Lindsay and Nora frontburner again and in a full-on raging !@#$%^&*]FEST. I miss that between those two!

I've not watched OLTL in... God, it's been months. Probably 2 - 3 months. And even then, I wasn't really paying attention. It was just background noise.

Dena Higley is a weak writer, plain and simple. She's run-of-the-mill, ordinary and bland. There's nothing about her writing style that makes her unique, gripping or even mildly entertaining. What a bore!

Yeah, a Nora and Lindsay storyline would be awesome. I can see Lindsay egging Nora on and thinking she won't do anything because of her condition and then Nora jumps up and slaps the crap out of her.

  • Member

Nora/Lindsay would be great but you are never going to see that as long as Fronzie and Hackely are in charge.

I started out a few months ago missing a day every now and again. Then it became days. I really can't say that I have watched the show in the last two weeks. I took it off my Tivo to tape a golf tournament on another channel and haven't put it back on.

I watch the spoilers. If it looks like something interesting may happen, I'll watch. I don't trust the show anymore. I believed Frank and Dena when they said Viki was going to get a story and a love life. I really inevsted in Jess/Tess and Nash. I tolerated all the triangle from hell crap because I did enjoy Jess/Tess and Nash and kept thinking there would be some pay-off for Kevin and Kelly or Todd and Blair. I also thought at last Java is over. It's just lies. They have no intention of giving Viki a story, a love-life or even a family anymore. There's no payoff for any of my favorite characters and I doube kevin will even be on the show much longer.

It's just one big disappointment. Erika Slezak does great work. I think she and Bree are wonderful together. I think they have some of the best chemistry on the show. Kevin, Jess, Clint and Viki are a great family and all four of the actors play well off each other. Sadley, we see Viki propping about once a month now. Well I won't go any further except to add the couples on this show are just painfully bad right now.

I don't comment much because I don't watch much. I do come over and read the boards, looking for some sign that the show is going to get better. It's not happening though.

I, by the way, am watching DOOL for the first time in about ten years and I think it's a very very good show right now.

Jess, well said. The Viki stuff is what gets me the most. Here OLTL has one of the greatest actresses on TV and what do they do? Nothing. And then they lied, they lied about Viki getting a love interest, they lied about the DID being a Viki/Jess mother/daughter thing, they lied in teasing about Viki hooking up with her ex (and they did say that even old Frankie was quoted in the mags) they lied about Viki getting story. I hate the lies and if I ever read Higley using the word "organic" in describing any couple or any story on this show I will vomit until OL is cancelled. The writing is so non-sensical it is disturbing and I only watch when I know certain characters are on because of the acting and nothing more. The OL declining situation is just revolting and so sad. What a sad ending for OL to come to, just disgusting how far it has fallen and how fast.

Don't have a lot of time but will chime in to say one word:

Disgusted. Have not watched at all in weeks. When I first quit I would still watch a few moments each day. And for the last few weeks don't even turn the show on. I am spending the hour watching Law & Order reruns on TNT.

May I add a word for HBS's Nora in here. She may not have been on the show 35 years, but ten years ago, she was the reason I watched. Not one, but two, feisty, accomplished, principalled women (barring the ridiculous cabana) being featured heavily. Now, Nora can' barely walk, and Viki is spat upon by the writing. Yet, Higley is not just shoving Clint/Dorian, a pairing with some conflict and interest, but one set to anger many long time fans, but also Paige/Bo - a boring couple with Bo so out of character I'm surprised he recognizes himself in the mirror and at least little online fanbase. What I don't understand is the business model that is virtually and continouosly spitting in many longterm fans' faces.

I like OLTL right now too.

- I love Evangeline and Cristian, Adriana and Rex, Todd/Blair/Spencer storyline, having Nora awake, Hugh/Kelly, Jessica/Tess storyline (we don't even see Jess/Antonio A LOT), DAVID! I wish he wasn't in John's horrible storyline, Michael/Marcie/Tommy, Nash/Claudia (I know people don't like her, but I think the storyline could be good with Claudia killing her father and what comes next.)

Things I don't like are Dorian/Clint (it should be a triangle with Viki, could be good stuff!), Cristian's boxing storyline, John/Natalie, John's father death storyline, killing off Margaret

But I don't think its that bad!

I agree about both ES and HBS, Viki and Nora. And the resulting crap couples to make up for it with Clint and Bo and their new gals is just disgusting, all the more reason to turn the crap off for good. If Higley thinks that shoving her pairings down out throats will make us like them, sorry, makes me hate both Clint and Bo beyond measure and only makes me want Viki and Nora with new people far, far away from their idiotic boneheaded, dipshit, moron supposed true loves. Who would want Viki with Clint after this, who would want Nora with Bo after this? No one, and to top it off I just don't care about Clint or Bo anymore, I just don't. I DO care about Viki and Nora and will always side with them against everyone else, always especially given how horribly they have been treating Erika and Hilly and how badly Viki and Nora have suffered onscreen.

You wanna know what word to describe One Life to Live right now? I'll give it to you....are you ready? "Clusterfuck".

The good on the show doesn't even come close to outweighing the bad. That is how bad OLTL is right now. The few bright spots are dimmed with shitty writing and bad acting.

That's where it's at for me. Too many isolated storylines with no attempt to create bonds between characters.

Example 1: Nash. Other than wasting Clint promoting him, he doesn't have other ties in town. Instead, they bring in a psycho ex-girlfriend with no ties to anyone. Granted they're aren't a whole lot of families in town but he could have been related to Lindsay or Todd on his mother's side or someone.

Example 2: Paige. Why is Bo so forgiving of her and so hard on Rex? She's a truly worthless character and this recast is the worst of the three. Why is she getting off so much easier than David? Don't care about her damn kid and don't care about her.

Example 3: Tommy storyline. It looked like Tommy was going to turn out to be TJ but now it looks like a two week storyline for M/M who we won't see for the rest of the summer. Why? I think they're one of the most believable couples and yet Higley refuses to write for them.

Example 4: Mobsters from New Jersey. At least they're giving Layla something to do other than propping Van but why not involve her with someone who doesn't have crime ties like maybe Dr. Jamison? Is there a reason that the Hispanic and African American males who actually are on contract all have to have criminal backgrounds(including Cris because of the Tico murder even though this was not his fault).

I love that you brought up the case of Nash. Clint promoting him doesn't make terribly good sense, and even Clint hasn't been 100% in his court, but WHY bring on Claudia and her short-lived dad. Yet another crazy woman scorned. How original (NOT). Why not bring on Nash's dad...to object to his son's fascination with yet another 'loony tune'...and how's that reaction gonna sit with the Buchanans or Viki (or even Todd)? The canvas doesn't NEED more Buchanans (where Dena has all but yelled she's headed,) What it needs is opposition to shore it up and bring it together.

Nash presumably has a mother as well. Rather than give the bland, mostly despised Paige a son, cut your losses, and bring this woman into town to meet her new grandbaby. Imagine how any parents would take to this situation. It gives Nash some reinforcements, some genuine conflict for the older set, some new blood...eventually Nash could have a sister or brother. Hey, it'd even give Antonio someone new to snarl at.

Clint needs a foe to spar with...especially if he is gonna be playing footsie with Dorian.

They could have brought on Nash's dad to pair with Viki for now while Clint is off being bubble head idiot. That would have brought story to all of them, this whole thing tied in more neatly with tons of potential.

  • Member

They could have made Nash Todd's brother by way of Todd's mom -- we don't need more buchanans, we need to give the ones we have a story. They could have and should have built a romance with Jess and Nash instead of returning to Javapuke. They could have kept Kelly and kevin together instead of having Kelly sleep with Kevin's son and hook up with newbie number 5. (No point in giving them names now)

Anyway, they could have done a lot of things that were working instead, they gave us crap stories and crap couples. I really do not understand why they identify couples that work, split them up and pair the parties with someone else and it doesn't work. Makes no sense.
