GH: the unaired pilot with Denise Alexander

I just finished watching the fantastic unaired pilot for GH called Emergency Hospital! It featured Denise Alexander who went on to star on GH, Days and Another World. She played 18 year old Kathy who was in a car accident with her husband of three months. Her mother had disowned her for marrying beneath her and when she learned her husband was dead, she wanted to die. She did an AMAZING job with making me care for this character in one episode. The other characters were a fat cop, hunky doctor and a nurse.

Does anyone know why they dumped this and retooled it with what became GH? The only problem I have with it is that its an anthology and I'm not sure how that would work in daytime. But as a primetime show, I think this could've been hot. Other than Alexander, are there any other connections to GH?

Where did you get a copy of the ULTRA RARE PILOT

I've always liked the idea of an anthology in daytime. Have a new story for each week. It'd be cool if a network like The CW or FOX actually developed a lineup based on anthologies. It'd be a hell of a lot better than teleNOvelas.

Chris it seems like I remember reading once that GH changed the anthology format because The Doctors was already in the works at NBC as an anthology. The Doctors stayed an anthology for quite awhile featuring one of 4 or 5 characters alternately each week. Dr. Matt Powers was introduced and then later the show changed to regular format.

I cannot remember why Denise Alexander was dropped though, and why her character did not become part of GH then. I know that she had received good reviews for her short stint on the short-lived series Ben Jerrod (her first soap role). I do not even remember now who she played.

Then of course Days got her and she was very popular as Susan Martin. I wish Days had never let her slip away. Susan Martin on Days and then Mary McKinnon on AW are my 2 favorite roles by her, even more than Lesley on GH who I also love.

I looked it up: She played Emily Sanders on "Ben Jarrod."

Now I just watched the first episode of Peyton Place and this show is amazing! It's so weird seeing a primetime soap in the 60s. It's completely different from the daytime soaps of the time. It has lots of location stuff, it's at a primetime speed and they can cover more ground per episode, than daytime.

It is great seeing so many well known stars at a younger age! You have Mia Farrow, Ryan O'Neal and Barbara Perkins so far. Mia Farrow is the most impressive so far. Allison is an introvert who is wise beyond her years. I'm loving everything about her.

Another interesting twist was seeing Rodney date Betty while his father is sleeping with her mother. Because of this, Rodney dumped her, met Allison, thus setting up the Betty/Rodney/Alison love triangle.

Alison's mother, Constance, is a bit of a mystery so far. She has a picture of her "husband" who died at birth. Alison suggested she move on, but she shot her down. Then when Constance saw Rodney kiss Alison, she seemed uneasy about the relationship. Since I've seen the movie I understand her reservations. In the movie Alison was the product of an affair and all hell broke loose when it was revealed.

Can't wait to see that here!

Okay, HOW are you getting to see Peyton Place?

I would kill for just a few episodes of that!

Yikes, no need to kill, All My Shadows!

I have the series PP, so if you want to see it, drop me a line.

Just no violence please, LOL!

I ordered all this great stuff from a website, if you're interested, I can PM you the link. So far I've gotten the first 44 episodes of Peyton Place and two dvds full of Search For Tomorrow, Secret Storm, Valant Lady, Guiding Light and the GH pilot.

I'm a very happy camper right now! :D

Honestly, some people have all the luck really. Surprised there's no "Love of Life" included with the daytime soaps.

Love of Life and ATWT were included, but he couldn't find them so he gave me some bonus stuff. Would love to find some ATWT now. I did find a site with a ton of full episodes from the mid-80s all the way to the 00's, but I am not sure if it's real or not so I'm waiting on that. I think I'll do a small order and see how it goes first.
