Ani Difranco - Fuel (Amazing Lyrics and so damn true)

They were digging a new foundation in Manhattan

And they discovered a slave cemetary there

May their souls rest easy

Now that lynching is frowned upon

And we've moved on to the electric chair

And I wonder who's gonna be president, tweedle dum or tweedle dummer?

And who's gonna have the big blockbuster box office this summer?

How about we put up a wall between the houses and the highway

And you can go your way, and I can go my way

Except all the radios agree with all the tvs

And all the magazines agree with all the radios

And I keep hearing that same damn song everywhere I go

Maybe I should put a bucket over my head

And a marshmallow in each ear

And stumble around for another dumb-numb week

Waiting for another hum drum hit song to appear

People used to make records

As in a record of an event

The event of people playing music in a room

Now everything is cross-marketing

Its about sunglasses and shoes

Or guns and drugs

You choose

We got it rehashed

We got it half-assed

We're digging up all the graves

And we're spitting on the past

And you can choose between the colors

Of the lipstick on the whores

Cause we know the difference between

The font of 20% more

And the font of teriakiyi

You tell me

How does it... make you feel?

You tell me

What's ... real?

And they say that alcoholics are always alcoholics

Even when they're as dry as my lips for years

Even when they're stranded on a small desert island

With no place within 2,000 miles to buy beer

And I wonder

Is he different?

Is he different?

Has he changed? what's he about?..

Or is he just a liar with nothing to lie about?

Am I headed for the same brick wall

Is there anything I can do about

Anything at all?

Except go back to that corner in Manhattan

And dig deeper, dig deeper this time

Down beneath the impossible pain of our history

Beneath unknown bones

Beneath the bedrock of the mystery

Beneath the sewage systems and the PATH train

Beneath the cobblestones and the water mains

Beneath the traffic of friendships and street deals

Beneath the screeching of kamikaze cab wheels

Beneath everything I can think of to think about

Beneath it all, beneath all get out

Beneath the good and the kind and the stupid and the cruel

There's a fire just waiting for fuel

I think it's too difficult to pick just one, but a few that stick with me are...

Sexbox by La Toya Jackson - She is so underrated and this house classic from her No Relations album is just brilliant. "He took me home and opened up my front door, I felt no regrets!! Turn me in, turn me out. You make me wanna shout! Oooh, it feels so good. My first time in my mind, you knew that I was lying. You were mine and I was your, anytime you want me to!"

Stop It Hurts You're Killing Me Don't Stop by Danielle Brisebois - This is such an angry, powerful love (?) song and like so many of her others it has such emotion. My favorite lines are, "I'm only happy when I fall out of love, I'm only happy when the blind man is mugged, I'm only happy when the hostage is killed, I'm only happy when I dance positively. Such a shame the album this was on wasn't released. :( Kelly Clarkson covered one of her tracks, Just Missed the Train.

The list of classic songs by Rufus Wainwright is neverending, but my absolute favorite is Damned Ladies. It's about wronged Opera characters, which is very...unique and it's beautifully sung. Simple and forgettable to some, but a classic for me! My favorite part: There is a knock at the door, tell me it's not Mimi again! Or is it Gilda's waiting, bashing to be stabbed and killed again. Katya Kabanova, why did you marry him? You knew his mother was a bitch and would keep hold of you! Oh, Pamina got away from Mama...before the age of Rambo Opera.

Another great one by Rufus is Memphis Skyline which is about Jeff Buckley, this is honestly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard! Especially being a fan of Buckley. If you're a fan and haven't heard this song, you should check it out. It's a fitting tribute from one great artist to another.

Desperado by the Eagles -- best song ever

"Desperado"

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

You been out ridin' fences for so long now

Oh, you're a hard one

I know that you got your reasons

These things that are pleasin' you

Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy

She'll beat you if she's able

You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things

Have been laid upon your table

But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger

Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home

And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'

Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?

The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine

It's hard to tell the night time from the day

You're losin' all your highs and lows

Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

Come down from your fences, open the gate

It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you

You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

One of the BEST songs ever made in the history of the universe is "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac. It's not a typical breakup song, and so haunting:

Listen to the wind blow

Watch the sun rise

Run in the shadows

Damn your love

Damn your lies

And if

You don't love me now

You will never love me again

I can still hear you saying

You would never break the chain.

List to the wind blow

Down comes the night

Run in the shadows

Damn your love

Damn your lies

Break the silence

Damn the dark

Damn the light

And if

You don't love me now

You will never love me again

I can still hear you saying

You would never break the chain.

Chain....you must never

Running in the shadows

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush probably!

MUSIC VIDEO:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGc4wcil2g...ering%20heights

Out on the wiley, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green.

You had a temper like my jealousy

Too hot, too greedy.

How could you leave me,

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night

You told me I was going to lose the fight,

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,

On the other side from you.

I pine a lot. I find the lot

Falls through without you.

I'm coming back, love,

Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,

My only master.

Too long I roamed in the night.

I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.

I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering,

Wuthering Heights,

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me, your Cathy, I've come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! Let me have it.

Let me grab your soul away.

Ooh! Let me have it.

Let me grab your soul away.

You know it's me--Cathy!

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold,

let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy, come home. I´m so cold.

AHHHHHHH YAAAAA YAAAA OHHHH YAAAAAAA

Bree and Rick, love those picks! GOTTA love Ani and Fleetwood Mac!

I would say, one of my all-time favorite songs is definitely "Breathe Me" by Sia. If you download it, be careful because there all of these crazy remixes.

Used during the Six Feet Under Series finale Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or0sDw4qGIY

Used also for the last season promo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYPf5-QelEU

The Video is here (but it kind of sucks.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr6T8kLeVO4

Truly one of the best and most beautiful and most powerful songs ever, IMO!

My favourite song is "In Repair" by Our Lady Peace. I absolutely love this song.

Well it's good to know that you'll be okay

I've been waiting for this

And I'll be there to sit while you pray

No one's blaming me

I'm not supposed to wait

When they open up your heart

Oh I… I have been good, I understood

Like a machine, I'll fix you from the start

I'm in repair, the life that we share

I know that I'll be lost in

But we're always in repair

Lock the door, lock the door

Lock the door, lock the door

Lock the door, lock the door

And it's good to know that you'll drive away

From this car crash nightmare

And I'll be there to help you again

And there's no danger

We're just killing time again

When they order up new parts

Oh I… I have been good, I understood

Like a machine, I'll fix you from the start

I'm in repair, the life that we share

I know that I'll be lost in

But we're always in repair

Take this time to figure it out

Know the wire, the fuse, the things that you doubt

The wheels, the air, the metal, the mouth

Something, something, something

Oh I… I have been good, I understood

Like a machine, I'll fix you from the start

I'm in repair, the life that we share

I know that I'll be lost in

Oh I… I have been good, I understood

Like a machine, I'll fix you from the start

I'm in repair, the life that we share

I know that I'll be lost in

But we're always in repair

Lock the door, lock the door

Lock the door, lock the door

Lock the door, lock the door

If You leave Me Now - Chicago

Mercy Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye

It's So Hard To say Goodbye To Yesterday - G.C. Cameron

Also, didn't songs back then have much better titles? Memphis Skyline. Now, just hearing that title would put you in the mood to put down the top and just go cruising on some beautiful night with that special someone.

Nowadays, all the titles are talking about who killed who and who got who pregnant.

Chris, thank you for mentioning Jeff Buckley, who i just think is the gold standard musician/artist! His voice transcends time, it is not of this world!

My favourite of his is Lover, You Should've Come Over

Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners

Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water

And maybe I’m too young to keep good love from going wrong

But tonight you’re on my mind so you never know

When I’m broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it

Where are you tonight, child you know how much I need it

Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun

And much too blind to see the damage he’s done

Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So I’ll wait for you... and I’ll burn

Will I ever see your sweet return

Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should’ve come over

’cause it’s not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in

Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him

My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It’s never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder

It’s never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her

It’s never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter

It’s never over, she’s the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe I’m just too young

To keep good love from going wrong

Oh... lover, you should’ve come over

’cause it’s not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on

And I’m much too old to break free and run

Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage I’ve done

Sweet lover, you should’ve come over

Oh, love well I’m waiting for you

Lover, you should’ve come over

’cause it’s not too late

I don't have an all-time favourite b/c usually it changes depending on what type of music I'm liking, so I have a lot.

But one of my favourites is "Visions of Johanna" by: Bob Dylan. The version on Blonde on Blonde (which is my favourite album) is good, but I prefer the alternative version that was released on one of his bootleg CDs.

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?

We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it

And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it

Lights flicker from the opposite loft

In this room the heat pipes just cough

The country music station plays soft

But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off

Just Louise and her lover so entwined

And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind

In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain

And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the "D" train

We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight

Ask himself if it's him or them that's really insane

Louise, she's all right, she's just near

She's delicate and seems like the mirror

But she just makes it all too concise and too clear

That Johanna's not here

The ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face

Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously

He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously

And when bringing her name up

He speaks of a farewell kiss to me

He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all

Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall

How can I explain?

Oh, it's so hard to get on

And these visions of Johanna, they kept me up past the dawn

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial

Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while

But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues

You can tell by the way she smiles

See the primitive wallflower freeze

When the jelly-faced women all sneeze

Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze

I can't find my knees"

Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule

But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel

The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him

Sayin', "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"

But like Louise always says

"Ya can't look at much, can ya man?"

As she, herself, prepares for him

And Madonna, she still has not showed

We see this empty cage now corrode

Where her cape of the stage once had flowed

The fiddler, he now steps to the road

He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed

On the back of the fish truck that loads

While my conscience explodes

The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain

And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain

I don't know about some people by my #1 favorite is Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody (Album: A Night at the Opera, 1975)

(Mercury)

Is this the real life -

Is this just fantasy -

Caught in a landslide -

No escape from reality -

Open your eyes

Look up to the skies and see -

I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy -

Because I'm easy come, easy go,

A little high, little low,

Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me,

- to me -,

Mama, just killed a men,

Put a gun against his head,

Pulled my trigger, now he's dead,

Mama, life had just begun,

but now I've gone and thrown it all away -

Mama, ooo,

Didn't mean to make you cry -

If I'm not back again this time tomorrow -

Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters -

Too late, my time has come,

Sends shivers down my spine -

Body's aching all the time,

Goodbye everybody - I've got to go -

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth -

Mama, ooo -

I don't want to die,

I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all -

I see a little silhouetto of a man,

Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the Fandango -

Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me -

Gallileo, Gallileo,

Gallileo, Gallileo

Gallileo figaro - Magnifico -

But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me -

He's just a poor boy from a poor family -

Spare him his life from this monstrosity -

Easy come easy go -, will you let me go -

Bismillah! No -, we will not let you go - let him go -

Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go

Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go

Will not let you go - let him go

Will not let you go - let him go

No, no, no, no, no, no, no -

Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go -

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me -

for me -

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye -

So you think you can love me and leave me to die -

Oh Baby - Can't do this to me baby -

Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here -

Nothing really matters,

Anyone can see,

Nothing really matters -, nothing really matters to me,

Anyway the wind blows...

These 2 other songs are just as great.

I SHALL BELIEVE SHERYL CROW

Come to me now

And lay your hands over me

Even if it's a lie

Say it will be alright

And I shall believe

I'm broken in two

And I know you're on to me

That I only come home

When I'm so all alone

But I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way

You think it ought to be

It seems like every time I try to make it right

It all comes down on me

Please say honestly you won't give up on me

And I shall believe

And I shall believe

Open the door

And show me your face tonight

I know it's true

No one heals me like you

And you hold the key

Never again

Would I turn away from you

I'm so heavy tonight

But your love is alright

And I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way

You think it ought to be

It seems like every time I try to make it right

It all comes down on me

Please say honestly

You won't give up on me

And I shall believe

I shall believe

And I shall believe

OUTSIDE-STAIND

And you bring me to my knees, again

All this time that I could beg you please, in vain

All the times that I felt insecure, for you

And I leave my burdens at the door

I'm on the outside

I'm looking in

I can see through you

See your true colors

'cause inside you're ugly

Ugly like me

I can see through you

See to the real you

All this time that I felt like this wont end

It's for you

And I taste what I could never have

Was from you

All those times that I tried

My intentions

Full of pride

And I waste more time than anyone

I'm on the outside

I'm looking in

I can see through you

See your true colors

Cause inside you're ugly

Ugly like me

I can see through you

See to the real you

All the times that I cried

All this wastin

It's all inside

And I feel all this pain

Stuffed it down

It's back again

And I lie here in bed

All alone

I cant mend but I feel

Tomorrow will be okay

I'm on the outside

I'm looking in

I can see through you

See your true colors

Inside you're ugly

Ugly like me

I can see through you

See to the real you

Others are Fleetwood Mack's "Landslide", "Rhinnion", and already mentioned "The Chain". The Beatles "Hey Jude", Elton John's "Your Song", and Bonnie Raitt's "Make You Love Me".

Whisper In A Crowd By Golden Earring

You can't play with feelings

The way you sometimes do

And hide your true intentions

Behind those eyes so blue

Always pretending

You're nobody's fool

Now until forever

The world was made for you

You cheat, you lie

You hurt, my pride

You fake desire

Upset my life

You fly solo,

Make up your own rule

You break your word

As if I don't know

Whisper in a crowd

Just like a silent scream

Ah ah ah ah,

No one, will hear

Your cry of fear

You made your seven wishes

None of them came true

Like your expectations

You gotta face the truth
