While we wait for the announcement of a new headwriter with a mixture of excitement and dread, what do you think needs to be done to bring this show back to some sort of quality.

Which actors/characters need to go?

Which characters should return?

What type of new characters are needed?

How would you resolve the current plots?

What new directions could stories go?

Whoever takes on the job has their work cut out for them unless they just continue Josh Griffith's nonsense.

  1. At least a third of the vets, because Y&R has so many. Maybe have Chelsea die in a car accident.

  2. Reed returns to town as an Army vet/cop. Basically write him to be the new Chance. Love interest could be Mattie Ashby. Charlie would be the new Malcolm-- Jabot's photographer. Maybe introduce a female model for him to interact with.

  3. A brand new family that runs a diner. Three pieces of male candy: a cop, a construction work, a street hood? A teen daughter for brothers Connor and Johnny to fight over. Another option, maybe build a blue-collar, latinx/latino family around Mrs Martinez who should be an on-screen character and be used in a way similar to Mamie was... or .. alternatively, give Audra a cousin or two. Another suggestion would be to build the Fischer family by SORASing Chloe's kids. Kevin breaks up with Chloe off-screen. Maybe have Sharon discover her deadbeat dad's second family.

  4. Teenage set. One or two cops. Another doctor. A junior lawyer-- maybe Michael's half-sister, Eden Baldwin. A new female schemer and their gay coded male partner in crime (comic relief), think ATWT's Henry.

  5. I'd like to consolidate the business stuff to two companies. I'd introduce some humor-tinged comic capers for a variety of tone.

One thing I would love to see a new HW do is to introduce (gradually) a new, working class family with at least one character who is ambitious and eager to have a better life. Nobody on this show strives for anything anymore, except to elude their latest abductor or overcome their latest addiction or chronic illness.

I'd have Chelsea caught in the proverbial crossfire between a relapsing Nick and his dealer(s). She could linger in a coma OR pass away. Either way, Adam would become very angry with his half-brother (and with Victor and Nikki's efforts to protect their son) and decide he's had it with the Newman family. Exacting some sort of vengeance might cross his mind. However, Adam ultimately elects to return to his native Kansas and start over (relocating Chelsea from GC to a nearby long-term care facility if she's still comatose).

That actually sounds juicy. There’s too many people getting along on this show. The only feud that continues to be (tirelessly) played out is Jack vs Victor.

Well, it's one way to usher Chelsea (and Adam) off the show. It's also a way to introduce (or, rather, reintroduce) a character longtime Y&R fans will remember. At first glance, they appear to be working for Nick's dealer(s). In reality, they're working undercover to bust up a fentanyl ring. (And no, it's not Chance or Ronan, lol).

There need to be generational shifts happening. We have not had a generational shift since the 1990s/early 2000s, and it needs to happen in order for the elder cast to slowly be pulled back so we do not have a Jerry Douglas situation happen. And bring back in some Legacy characters ⏤ recur to start and then promote to regular if that is an available option.
