Frankly, she shouldn't have gone there, and neither should have Mal Young. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: stories about dementia, or any other terminal illness, do not belong on daytime. For one thing, they're depressing. For another, because you know at the start how the story will end, you're basically watching somebody die, and then what?

We all can agree that Ron Carlivati would be a terrible choice for JG's replacement, but let's be real, folks: who else is there? TPTB won't invest anymore in new talent, and everyone else with HW'ing experience has either died or left the business, with no desire to return.

"But what about [enter still employed writer's name here]?"

Yeah, chances are, most who still write for soaps but who aren't HW's are happy not to have to deal with the level of network interference that comes with being the HW.

So, in the end, I think it's either Ron or its Chat GPT, lol.

The rest will (almost undoubtedly) be a mess, but I'll be watching.

Clearly, JG was inspired by Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" when he wrote that storyline, so why didn't he acknowledge that inspiration and have Cane use the alias "Edmond Dantès" instead?

Sweetie.. these are soap operas.. not Hallmark Channel movies or tv shows.

Death is a part of life and we all whine and complain about soaps being unrealistic. At the same time, there does need to be a balance so if one is going to write a terminal illness.. balance it out with a story that's warm and comical as a sort of palette cleanser.

And on a unrelated note, I really wish some posters would learn how to post links properly without copying and pasting useless info to go along with it.

Something else that I thought of was about Daytime Emmy nominations. The nominations will be out in a few weeks and maybe there is buzz about Y&R not doing so well with nominations or at least underperforming compared to previous years. Of course these things are kept airtight because of how secure the process is, but you still may get academy members talking when they shouldn't be.

The nominations were very skimpy last year with just three shows nominated. A three show race of B&B, GH and DAYS or BTG (not sure how good DAYS was last year) for outstanding drama series would be embarrassing for Y&R and more than enough to send the head writer packing.
