Well, hopefully he drops the bad habits

The show right now isn't bad or anywhere near great. Inoffensive, introspective, but mediocre. To his credit, he is responsible for using history and bringing back Valerie Grant and creating Eli, but nothing much will change for better or worse, IMO.

The show needs a writer that has fresh ideas and energy and to pair them with a writer that knows and understands the characters.

That's precisely how I feel. The show seems to be caught in a rut right now, in my opinion, due to the current cast of characters and the rapid pace at which everything is filmed. Until those aspects change, it won't make much difference who the head writer is.

I must say, I really enjoyed the end of 2016 through 2017, even though Quan was co-head writing alongside Higley, I felt the show made significant improvements after the whole Griffith mess. The Orpheus/Clyde/Xander storyline, the Greece storyline with Stefano/Shane/Carrie/Austin, the plane crash with Paul's jungle fever, the return of Eric and Valerie, and the introduction of Eli. I believe it set the stage nicely for Carlivati to take over in the fall. Hopefully Quan can help make the show less dull.
