Y'all didn't hear it from me (you did!), but expect more white folks to be cast on the show. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but just giving a heads up as I know people will complain and think it's whitewashing what's already been established as a predominantly Black cast show.

Thank you for this because it's coming...

I see a largely positive shift in the show, but so far none of it has been towards centering a bunch of white characters IMO. Anyway, it's a short term role.

Respectfully, people have the right to be wary. If 2024 has taught folks anything, that should have been the lesson.

The show hasn't had much luck so far casting interesting Caucasian actors in decent roles --- with the obvious exceptions of Smitty and Vanessa.

Vanessa was the true find.

Mike Manning was already known in daytime for his great work on Days and other online soaps.

Amazing, this show is really going to go a full year (at least) without telling a story about 2 Black contract characters meeting & falling in love. Even Passions & Sunset Beach managed this! B&B did it this year! Utter madness!

I think making so many of the characters be related made this rather impossible. Having three generations of the same family, with all of them being adults, was a bit of an overkill.

Still somehow not convinced B&B is the best place to look for Black representation and romance.

A finite start and end date ...
"a 20-episode run as Dr Lia Whitmore; the brilliant and battle tested, Chief of Staff at Garland Memorial Hospital.

In story, Dr. Whitmore steps into the operating room when her life takes a sharp turn, shattering her confidence and forcing her to question everything she has ever stood for and drawing in the Dupree family and others into her web of deceit. Look for Specht to make her debut on the upcoming February 13th episode and currently to be seen through May 26th."

"currently to be seen through" ? I guess that's not ruling out further appeances.

This show is really risking alienating the very viewers that MVJ claimed to be courting, having stated that daytime has traditionally neglected. I understand that they are trying to placate the new bosses at Paramount/Skydance but the onscreen shifts are very very noticeable and I hope this doesn't portend the beginning of taking Black viewers for granted, some are new to daytime soaps and of those, a number have already dropped off since the debut and others are barely hanging on.

I assume it's a bit of a catch 22. They probably want to get more white viewers as they've already got the black demographics into the show. So they're trying to see if adding more white characters will help with that (hopefully not while marginalizing the black characters).

Also, not having a proper rival family meant not having a proper star-crossed lovers type of story. Eva's out on that since she's related and so many Duprées are females (yes, I know they could do a lesbian story but still).

It's funny you mention Eva. I remember before Eva officially became branded as Ted's daughter, she and Andre shared a scene that the audience seemed to really love. Talked about a chemistry they thought the two characters had to the point of them becoming a couple. OOPS! That gets shot down too once it's realized that Andre and Eva are biological first cousins, and neither one of them are Duprees. A whole entire secondary family was always going to be necessary. I said this before the show even debuted.

100%. The decision to have only 1 Black male regular character single & ready to mingle at the start was another a big blunder of the initial bible.

When they do the post mordem on this show, the conclusion shouldn't be that a Black-focused soap was a bad a idea. It was clearly a great idea. The show had a terrific premier and had good numbers with women under 55 for the first 6 months or so. So clearly a lot of people in that demo gave it a real shot. Its initial good numbers, coupled with its 5-month-ish ahead shooting schedule were a hindrance to making adequate course corrections.

The path forward is telling more romance stories with Black characters. Actually delivering what was expected by a large, under served audience.

It's 'mortem' but thank you for putting the show in the ground already, since it's obviously made you uncomfortable from the jump. Talking about the need for more Black romance is one thing but you've been at its throat manifesting its cancellation from the beginning. That's weird to me.

Another reason I'm not particularly interested in following their example. MVJ learned too much from how that show operates as is. It's unwatchable except to its hardcore.
