I can't imagine remodeling a set would get an executive producer fired, but perhaps you are correct. But please remember two different events changed the Chancellor set -- first Jill's change to the "narrow shot" toward the foyer (this occurred while Kathryn was still living). And later, Billy's remodeling -- which was so awful they had to reverse most of it.

I hate this so much. I'm actually glad they stopped using the set. It was so bad. Kay couldn't even look out the window at Phillip's grave anymore, which was the defining thing about that mausoleum!

They reversed it after the firing. ;) There was so much backlash from the audience. And if I remember correctly someone that was waaaay up the authority pole also had a biiiig issue with the remodel on top of that. I want to say the board was surprised that someone that high up was even still paying attention to the show at that point. I'm sure one of the other old school Y&R fans can verify what I'm saying. It's been a looooong time since I've thought about it.

IIRC, removing the wallpaper that always hung over the stairs in the Chancellor mansion foyer and changing the original yellow/cream color scheme to some eye-gouging, blue/gray monstrosity was what got JFP canned. As soon as she was out the door, they wrote a scene where Jill accosted Billy for changing the mansion, dipped a paint brush in some paint that matched the house's original colors and painted a stroke on the wall, as if to say, "THIS is what the mansion should (still) look like!"

As a matter of fact, I think it was a soap mag (which someone on SON reposted?) that said, in so many words, "JFP could do whatever she wanted with Y&R, but when she changed the Chancellor mansion, she had to go," lol.

I'm glad they reversed most of Billy Abbot's decorating changes to the Chancellor house. But unfortunately they haven't reversed the front-door. The original front-door was a big heavy four or eight panel wooden-door. After Billy's remodel, the front-door is smaller and is a two panel with a window in the top half. Dear God in Heaven! Have you ever seen a mansion with the upper half of the front-door being a clear glass window? It looks my grandma's back-door from 1965.

If Y&R ever decides to use this set regularly again, the best thing they could do is change the camera angle back toward the fireplace, as it had always been in the glory days of Kathryn and Jill. With the "updated" camera angle constantly toward the foyer, the set looks too similar to the Abbot house. I realize there are big differences (wall colors and other details), but the basic footprints are still quite similar. A new viewer could easily get the two houses confused. With the earlier camera angle, the similarities were minimized.

B&B's lighting still looks the best to me compared to the washed out GH. BTG is bright but not too bad.

I don't know why CBS wanted an updated soap, when Y&R was the best looking soap with the best music on air the air in 2013.

is there a particular reason they have not fully brought back to classic cues, ownership issues perhaps?

Yes, Angelica ordered changes to the set after the negative feedback. But, she was a weasel about it. She viewed the hideous re-design of that set 5 weeks before it was seen onscreen because she regularly watched through closed circuit in her office the production of the shows on CBS. Between the 5 or so weeks that she first saw that set being used and the time it finally aired onscreen, she gave zero feedback to the show about that set. It wasn’t until the negative feedback came after the set was seen by viewers that she tried to backtrack and say she didn’t know about it. B.S. She watched that set being used for a few weeks from her office before it aired and said nothing to the show.

In a way, what happened to JFP the first time she worked on Y&R reminds me of what happened to Felicity Huffman's character on "Frasier." You can insult the man, you can insult his loved ones, you can even insult his expertise as a licensed mental health professional. But the minute you insult his choice of hand towels....!
