That (or LML) was the time where I fully accepted that Y&R would probably never seem like itself again. Bill Bell liked a dark story at times, but he never would have thrown a fetus into a fireplace.

I'm drawing a blank. Can you remind me of the "fetus into the fireplace" plot?? And who was the head-writer at that time?

Victor and Ashley were married. Adam was gaslighting a pregnant Ashley (while also faking blindness and jabbing needles in his eyes, IIRC). She passed out at the ranch, had a miscarriage, and Adam, who wanted her to think she was still pregnant, disposed of the fetus. MAB, Hogan Sheffer (the writer at the time) or Michael Muhney was asked how Adam got rid of the fetus and the response was that Adam threw the fetus into the fireplace.

Okay, I remember that era of the show and I actually enjoyed it. Certainly 100 percent more compelling than what we get these days on Y&R. I do not, however, remember the "fetus in the fireplace" interview. Eeew! Wouldn't that smell like steak on the grill, and smell-up the entire house? Dear God in Heaven!!

Yeah that’s pretty dark but a lot of those storylines were very soapy and like someone else mentioned, the stakes were high.

She also had Sharon drug an officer and escape from prison and dye her hair dark to disguise her appearance. Phyllis was dragging bodies out of her penthouse with the help of Kevin. Very outlandish but still pretty entertaining nevertheless..

The show was still investing in couples and writing romance stories like Billy and Victoria even though I was NOT a fan of them, I know they had a fan base. Was Cane and Lily also a MAB creation? I know for certain she wrote Lilys cancer storyline and that one I did actually enjoy too.

I have tuned in for a few episodes over the holiday season.

For reference, the last time I tuned in was when Jess Walton last appeared and she visited Cane on his train set, proving how incredibly good the lighting on that set is…

The show is insanely boring and dull. Absolutely nothing happens. The direction is lifeless. The dialog is repetitive and flat. The music is non existent.

Bill Bell is surely rolling in his grave.

Spot on.

This thread is as lifeless as the show as there is pretty much nothing to discuss. The stories are by the numbers, there are only a few characters and sets per episode and people just talk about their incredible businesses while at restaurants and/or at home (if they're lucky enough to have one)

Haven't watched today's episode yet, but yesterday's was so bad I have no words.

-- Except for a couple scenes with Noah, Sharon, and Nick, every scene had only 2 people sitting or just standing there. Stultifyingly boring.

-- The Crimson Lights scenes with Phyllis and Billy stuck out to me the most for their lack of energy or anything else. Except for the counter worker, not a single customer in sight. The music soundtrack was so low I'm not sure there was any. The dialogue was repetitive and all of it was DEADLY. And let's not even get into why either Phyllis or Billy would make this or any other trips to that coffee shop.

-- As others have mentioned, why doesn't Phyllis just steal the AI program from Victor? Why are we hearing about what she'll get for stealing it? Just do it already, for Christ's sake.

-- The "Victor Must Win" trope has always been a problem, but never more than it is now.

-- Surely these actors know that what they're putting out is awful.

2024 was 90% garbage time. 2025 has turned out to be 90% hot garbage.

Lets keep it real here, Y&R hasn't been the same since Bill Bell stepped down. Kay Alden and Jack Smith ended up causing long-term damage that was exacerbated by LML, MAB, JFP, Mal Young, Josh Griffith, et al.

August 2026 will be 20 years since John Abbott was killed off. To me John Abbott death marked the end of an era.

Today Dec.30 Canada, tomorrow Dec.31 U.S.,
it gets worse, much worse. I suggest skipping the episode or having a vomit bag handy.

Boy I must have a sick mind because I actually thought the show said Adam actually threw it in the fireplace.....I completely didn't know it was a quote from an interview....LOL

All as a plot point to force Gloria down our throats and make us feel sorry for her, even though she was a twisted and awful character. Those were dark times, but a preview of what was to come. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years since that era.

It's pretty insulting. This is the best they could do to come up with conflict for Mariah and Tessa. The one LGBT couple on the show.
