Perfect assessment. BF is a solid actor, which is why he stood out at DAYS. On Y&R, he's not even in the top 15. Top to bottom, Y&R's cast is impressive. A huge difference from shoestring DAYS.

If JT ever left, I always imagined he'd be a solid recast for Billy. Oh, well.

I wish him the best, but I could see Sony trading him back to DAYS - and, yes, replacing the recast.

Primetime stars - Their hits and misses...

I think Betty did perfectly fine at giving Ellen Harper layers. I think that was her best role. Sue Ann was always a caricature, so it would have been difficult to make a caricature come to life. Still, they could have tried.
To me Hot in Cleveland was just a very false show - I could always see LAUGH NOW signs in the background. I don't think I ever laughed when I saw it, although my parents enjoyed it so I'm glad for that.

Not in 2025... Large family gatherings are not a thing and I think it's a healthier thing for the Dupree's since they seem a tad too attached at the hip.
And I never liked the patriarch giving a speech during the holidays.. it was always kind of cheesy when P & G soaps did that.

@Taoboi Per your request... my nine month report card (I can't wait till the 1st anniversary report card).
Favorite Characters (who I never fast forward when they have a scene):
Anita, Nicole, Eva, Jan, Mona, and Kat.
Characters that I tolerate if in a scene with one of my favorites:
SPS, Tomas, Dani, Hayley, Derek, Ashley
Characters I fast forward if not in a scene with a favorite:
Dani, Andre, Vernon, Martin, Smitty, Ted (recast), and June

Favorite feud:
Eva vs Kat
Least Favorite Feud:
Hayley vs Dani
Character with the most potential that the writers are under utilizing:
Chelsea
Caroline
Laura
Carleton
Favorite Plotline:
Recently the Hayley conning Bill tale intrigues me, but I hate that the show has made Hayley lose IQ points with her careless mistakes.
Joey: A one note character played by a talented actor that has made his scenes enjoyable to watch. I love when he meets a new character like Dani, Nicole, SPS, Hayley, Martin, Smitty, Elon, Vanessa, etc.
Stalled Plotline:
Vanessa/Joey: Since Guza left.. it seems to have stalled.
Nicole: We hardly have seen Nicole since the whole Eva bombshell except as a talk to.
Losing Patience Plotline:
SPS: Let's see karma knock her down a notch or two.

BTG: November 2025 Discussion Thread

I just finished watching the Thanksgiving episode and it was amazingly good! I was initially disappointed the entire Dupree family didn't gather at Vernon and Anita's house for a big celebration, because that's what I had been expecting. But I was quickly drawn into the several separate celebrations the characters enjoyed. This episode was everything a soap opera holiday episode should be! There was togetherness, a bit of humor and romance, a small amount of intrigue, and most importantly there was lots of family, love, and gratitude. And it was not some silly stand alone episode -- dear God, I hate stand alone episodes. At the end, Vernon's toast made me cry. And every good soap opera should make the audience cry at least once a week. To whomever wrote the BTG Thanksgiving episode, thank you!! BTG is without a doubt the best soap opera on American television. Now I can't wait to see what they do for Christmas!!

Betty White was too one note and limited as an actress to have given Sue Ann Nivens layers. Even her one role that was against type (Rose on Golden Girls eventually became passive aggressive and not as innocent/sweet as she was at the start of the show).
Betty White worked better as part of a cast of players and never as the sole lead. In fact, her Hot in Cleveland character was kind of the weak link on the show and I preferred the other three actresses over her (She was no Estelle Getty, who would have given Elka layers).

I see where you're coming from, @Paul Raven , but I'm also inclined to agree with @All My Shadows . I think a spin off centered around Sue Ann (with Phyllis popping in occasionally, since I think Betty and Cloris always worked so well together) would've had a better chance at success post-MTMS.
The biggest issue I had with "The Betty White Show" - apart from the underwhelming supporting cast* and the videotape look that made the entire production look cheap and muddy - was that the BTS satire of '70's cop shows was so toothless, like a really bad "Carol Burnett Show" sketch. IMO, if you're going to do a satire of something, you've got to be razor sharp, or you'll look skittish, which will KILL the comedy but good.
(*If we ever compile an official "Actors They Tried SO Hard to Make Happen" list, I'm adding Caren Kaye's name to the top of that list).
