My mom has mentioning this and it is not a great look for a mostly Black soap that is supposed to be elevating the Black experience on screen. It sort of defeats the purpose of having powerful Black characters if you're going to have a sleazy, low grade White character pulling their strings.

I am so glad I'm not the only one noticing this.

You guys know that I'm a white guy. This makes me so angry that I have no words. I was afraid to post about it thinking I might have it wrong, or that I'm making too much of this. I also wondered if my general dislike of the Joey character played into my feelings.

But I don't think I'm making too much of this at all, and I don't like where the story is going.

And now we get this POS white guy taking credit for where Izaiah is in life? Are you f.ucking kidding me?

Now we have the white Madame who's going to feed escorts to all the rich women of color while she also condescends to the Latino hunk who screwed her.

All of this has really turned me off.

I’m confused why we needed an all knowing completely in control white guy over the black people. This role could’ve easily been filled by a black villain on a majority black soap.

Exactly right. The casino owner should have been Black. Instead, they went with Elon as the "bad Black guy" and have given him little to do.

Don’t forget the white guy arranged the murder of the black man to steal his white wife who got no excitement from her black husband.

I mentioned this earlier -- that Vanessa said only excitement was missing from her life with Doug.

Then why was she having so much sex with escorts? She indicated her sex life with Doug was fine. And what the hell kind of excitement does greasy Joey provide? The thrill of being with a criminal?

This just makes Vanessa or to be a completely and total slut who's also a criminal. She doesn't have to do any of this to get rid of Joey, and that better not be the excuse for all this.

In regards to the conversations about Joey (white guy) being the villain against the mostly black characters... isn't that the point of a soap opera?  To hate the villain and root for the other characters to defeat him?

So the fact that all of you feel this way tells me that MVJ and co are doing their jobs well.

I'm sure that eventually something will turn and Joey will be taken down (and I hope to god it isn't Vanessa that takes him down).

I get the critique, but I also think Joey works as an antagonist so I don't have a huge issue with it. And I do think in the end it will be Vanessa who will take his empire, which works for me personally. Full circle. My only complaint about Joey is the silly-ass casino set/Golden Corral.

I do think having a similar Black antagonist would help down the line. Hayley and Leslie are good for what they are, but it's not the same thing. But I suspect that's why they are keeping Dante Green in the background for now. It is inevitable he shows up and wreaks havoc as an archvillain.

Ashley has to be one of the most insufferable assh*les on a soap in a long time. A Mary Sue to the extreme of inanity.

Part of me hopes that Jan, as Derek's staunch defender, but who clearly gentle-parented her spoiled brat way too hard, has a one-night stand with him that'll really throw that pea-brained moron into a tailspin.

Naomi count your days. Please someone slap the sanctimony and hypocrisy out of her mouth.

Jacob mentioned Elon had a heart attack ... ya'll know what that means.

If Vernon is planning a romantic surprise for Anita, pass me the barf bag. It would be so unnecessary. A soap opera needs heart and love, of course, but all we've seen of the Duprees is them all blowing smoke up each other's asses at every opportunity. Where is the inner-family drama? Bill Bell would be bored out his mind.

It was absolutely a mistake to not have this show be only half an hour. It would be so easy to trim the fat and drudgery to make this show more put together.

YES! I want Jan took hook up with him and for this to all be the origin of Ashley's villian arc

Totally agree!

And Joey might be all right showing up now and then to add humor, danger, excitement. But he seems like he's on every day and that he pretty much knows all the characters and is actually driving some story? Joey as support is ok, but as a main guy, come on. They've made the character too evil for that. He's responsible for 2 murders so far.

I really don't see how the show being aired for an hour or half hour makes the difference. This show has more than enough to effectively fill the time in an interesting and meaningful way. There are a lot of characters. Their backgrounds were nicely created. There is a lot that the show can be doing in greater fashion.......but.........

And I can't believe that an interesting and effective character like Donnell was just sent away faster than he arrived. What was up with that move? Smh.

I am gonna get hate for this but I think the actor who plays Derek has improved but JJ drags him down big time

Why any hate? A few of us have mentioned. ;) I think everyone has improved somewhat except for AA.

I like seeing the supporting characters pop up from time to time like Laura and Jan.

And usually it is just when I'm or someone in the audience is thinking of them. I love that. For me, it really reminds me of Y&R back in the day which is a nice touch.

Andre opening up to Dani 🥰

Those booty call hook ups have so turned into love.

Sean Freeman showed today that he can act. I think he's the breakout male star of BtG. Finish that initial contract, then take your talents to primetime. CBS needs to be smart and keep him in the family.

Which is what I called from the first moment Chelesa did her diva hair toss in that photoshoot where Dani and Andre first started. That is such to real life and personal experience so I was and still am glad that the show developed something like that. I'm not at all shocked at how it has organically deepened. And the fact that so many people in the audience that was against it have slowly not only come around to the two of them, but is now actively rooting for them.

Lightning in a bottle. Good writing. Organic conflict. Fire chemistry. Superb acting.
