That "joke" (because, is it still a joke if it's actually true?) doesn't even compare with the infamous "Sniper Wanted" gag w/ George W. Bush on either Craig Kilborn's or Craig Ferguson's old show.  Yet, no one got kicked off the air for that.

• It is all about $$$. Disney is in talks with the NFL. And it has to be FCC and Government approved. FCC is applying the "public interest" clause rather heavily here but it is the right of the FCC. In the past, public broadcasters could do or say anything, obviously that has changed. Kimmel's show had poor ratings anyhow and he was thrown out as the sacrifice. Nexstar is buying Tinga and will control many TV stations. This is all corporate business. Kimmel's career is done unless he gets a gig on cable network.

This probably the point where Disney realizes that owning ABC is more trouble than it's worth. Boycotts, talent unrest, clearing approvals are all a pain but familiar territory and navigable. But having to publicly bend the knee to Sinclair and Nexstar? Humiliating.

The whole thing is beyond pathetic. I cannot wait until the mid-terms and I'm holding on to hope that the Democrats win the  house and the Senate and they impeach that nutcase in the White House.

The affiliates showed their combined strength. Follow the money. No ad revenues from Kimmel show do not move upstream anymore.

 

I agree ABC will be sold by Disney soon. I expect Disney will keep the cable stations they own.

Broadcast tv is a dying business and ABC is a distraction for Disney -- Disney needs to focus on theme parks and movies.

This is about money. Specifically, Sinclair and Nexstar money. Sinclair has always been a conservative leaning company, but it's demands that Kimmel donate to Kirk's family and to Turning Point USA...yeah this is really about Sinclair wanting to purchase Tegna and they need FCC approval to do it. 

The FCC chair has made comments about Kimmel in the past. He knows he has no authority to oversee the television industry players like Kimmel, so he leaves it to the affiliates to exert pressure as Sinclair and Nexstar are doing currently. 

Americans better wake up that their first amendment rights are being eroded in the name of corporate greed and corruption at the highest levels.

Exactly. As I stated earlier. This is all about money. Plus the Sinclair stations lean Republican when it comes to news coverage. All about the money. Disney and the NFL have deals that need FCC and government approval. Kimmel is being sacrificed for corporate interests..

This is John Oliver's 2017 expose on Sinclair Broadcasting and what they make their stations' staffs do ... this is from 8 years ago, but I think most of the same ideas are still true, but likely much worse now:
