Karen also is just not integral to me

By herself, Karen would not be essential to me, either, but since the Baldwins are the second longest-running family on GH (the first being the Hardys), I'd use her as an already-known, canonic component (along with Serena) to rebuild and replenish the clan.

If it were not feasible to rehire Josh Duhon, for whatever reason, I'd forgo Logan. And, of course, I would never dream of resurrecting Roger Howarth, as any character, under any circumstances. I REFUSE to believe that my Scotty could have sired that icky Franco.

I have enough Qs, etc. I actually would bring back from the dead (A.J., Justus, eventually Emily) to not consider more lol. And yes, I would bring on Serena and Tom Jr./Thomas.

It just boggles the mind how TPTB willingly slaughtered so many characters from among the Qs. They may not have had a choice in some cases, but much of the gratuitous carnage was ridiculous and unnecessary.

I understand. I just told my co-worker earlier today...a DAYS fan...that a lot of actors and actresses have been passing on GH over the last few years. Regardless of how I feel about the writing overall, I do feel when it comes to the vets passing, the writing has been (and continues to) respect them.

I agree. In the modern era, GH has handled the passing of the vets well.

The treatment of Emily, as well as Lee and Audrey and Steve, was not right. It always stands out more with Emily as she never got a second act. I hang on to John Beradino's short tribute to Emily after she died. It really wasn't enough, but the way Beradino says, "so long, Jessie" has more emotional impact than some Viking funerals on soaps.

It was lovely. I read an interview with Beradino once, from the 1980s, in which he lamented Emily McLaughlin's being so downgraded and marginalized on the show. He acknowledged that we barely saw Jessie at that point, and said, "We at least used to have her on the Christmas show, but not anymore. That troubles me."

Mary Ann Anderson, McLaughlin's daughter, told me once that there was always the fear that EM would be fired for good, but when Joseph Hardy took over as producer, he had Jessie appear once a week (albeit in minor bits).

I think if the show were in a strong place then it could be some good drama for Felicia, Lucas, Maxie, etc. to have someone coming back who might be a Tony doppelganger, and they could tie that to Sidwell and his son if that story is still going to go on. I do know it would probably end with Sonny gunning him down while shouting at random times.

Bill Bell, Douglas Marland, Henry Slesar or Agnes Nixon could probably pull a story like this off. Today's GH writers? I doubt it.

I liked Karen a lot on PC but the original character just always seems to have been shoehorned to me. They needed a heroic young girl to try to build a youth set after the dire death of Monty II and they brought her in, and got lucky with her and Antonio Sabato in a moment when they really needed a little heat while Riche tried to reconceive the larger show. Then they made her Scott's kid literally on her way out the door while Kin was already gone (truly a bizarre move). That link paid off on PC, but never on GH itself. Karen to me was a precursor to young leads that really connected to the core and had staying power - Brenda, Robin, even Carly and Elizabeth, etc. So at this point I just see no purpose, especially when Serena (and the oft-forgotten Christina, no relation to Kristina) are alive and well to use. Both of whom I'd bring on, to shore up Lucy at least as much as Scott.

(I'd eventually reincorporate the presumably-deceased Livvie Locke via a child of hers to shore up Kevin, but that is a whole other story. I would probably not bring Livvie back or Kelly Monaco.)

Duhon allegedly had real issues with his female leading ladies that pretty much tanked his promising run. I don't recall if there was a drug component as well. It was a waste because it was a good character and a talented actor.

Christina...? This is embarrassing. I've forgotten her, LOL. Please remind me.

Oh, wait! Is she the little girl Scotty and Lucy adopted on Port Charles? Did she ever even appear on GH? I wonder when she was mentioned last.

This is all news to me. Thanks for the intel. I wouldn't want to have him replaced, so I guess Logan can rest in peace.

She appeared as a child briefly in the occasional crossover. As for since then she's been mentioned exactly once in the last 15 years, I think. AFAIC she's still canon, but they tread very lightly around anything from PC these days if at all given the debacle of the story Carlivati did in 2013. It's all very ambiguous these days, but several characters from PC also remain canon to GH (as does Karen's fate) so she counts IMO.

I would not fully dive back into the mess of what is or is not canon from PC, but I would bring back some elements (like Christina/new name TBD and acknowledging Livvie's place in Kevin's life) and largely avoid the rest. Probably after one brief tossed-off rambling monologue by Lucy rationalizing the magic spell (from PC) she thinks is responsible, to which Kevin can cock an eyebrow at her and then say 'sure, Lucy.' End of discussion!

I also might want to bring Kimberlin Brown back as Rachel Locke someday, but I digress.

Same. I believe like you...he would fall on the altar of Sonny.

Here's a question...watching these scenes with Emma and Gio...has this writing team gotten any romance right?

I think romance is one of the show's real weak spots right now, and it's telling that of the actors who are in the Top 10 for episode counts this year, the only one in a really romantic storyline is Eden McCoy (Joss). I'm not counting Carly/Brennan, Sonny/Random DA Woman, or Drew/Willow or even Brook Lynn/Chase as genuine romance storylines. And it's too soon to tell whether we'll get any romantic scenes between Jason/Britt.

I will say that the one advantage of the show's huge cast and rotating storylines--where we'll sometimes not see our favorites for a week or more--is that it does allow more time for slow-burn romances to percolate, like Lucas/Marco (who were dating for months before they even slept together) and Emma/Gio (who were a little too slow-burn IMO).

The show hasn't done a proper romance in decades.

And it does suck that they are wasting this back from the dead stuff on characters who, other than the actors playing them, I doubt many people wanted to see resurrected. They should be doing this with legacy characters who were stupidly killed off in the Guza years.

I've seen some criticisms of Lucy being given scenes with Tracy about Monica instead of Gio, Cody or Stella being in those scenes. I wish they'd been included (well, maybe not Gio as I don't care that much about his Q ties anymore), but whatever the reason, I thought the pairing was interesting. More than anything done with Lucy in some time. They've never been close, and that worked well here. On paper, Tracy weeping on the stairs would have been too much for me, but Jane underplayed that whole scene beautifully.

I thought the Tracy/Lucy scenes were great. They allowed the writers to acknowledge Monica as she truly was, especially her turbulent history with Alan.

It was far more meaningful than watching actors who never shared scenes with Leslie talk about what a saint Monica supposedly was.
