I agree that Vanessa is totally a Guza character.. and the actress provides different flourishes to her scenes depending on if she's acting opposite Joey, Dani/Nicole, Bill/Hayley/SPS, and Doug.   She acts flirty/sexual with Joey, caring friend with Dani/Nicole, snarky with Bill/Hayley/SPS, and being concerned/wistful with Doug.

Now... Silk Press Sheila in this episode had her acting campy (like Gina Demott of Santa Barbara fame) with Eva and subtle/hopeful with Anita.   I think the campy stuff is a front in order for SPS to protect herself from getting hurt.   The actress does try to infuse some layers in the character.. but she can only do so much with writing that veers into camp.

I don't think they always give her enough depth in the moment vs. trying to backfill it later. But I don't blame TMG for that (or Ambyr Michelle for how Eva has been inconsistent, as I said yesterday). I think the dialogue staff needs a lot of refreshing lol.

I will say I think Brandon Claybon was very good this week being the rock for the family and the voice of reason with Smitty. Martin was strong in that role, not cold or unstable as he started out.

Awww darn you, Show! I was hating SilkPress all episode, but this scene with Anita turning into an actual serious conversation is doing wonders for her and Anita. This is what I want to see more of. And scheming. I just hope that Anita saying there would be no Articulates without Barbara to her does not come back to bite her since the Devon subplot is still out there.

Bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. Not you throwing Vanessa under the bus.

And here we go...Nicole vs Ted.

True, but through all the other storylines and preemptions, it was really nice to get a refresher on where Vanessa's head is before the next beat in the storyline.

Okay, Show, I was about to get angry. Well-played with the fantasy.

I respect that Ted did not try to lie. That said...YASSSSS NICOLE!!! Free yourself!!!

And next week...Looks like we are finally going to get the next beat in the Doug/Vanessa/Joey storyline. Good.

I do wonder if the Joey/Vanessa/Doug story is going to climax and/or hit the next stage in the story because Guza will soon be leaving the credits so I have a feeling he's going to set up the next stage of the story so that his replacement can try to guide it to the next stage (though my instincts say that this Tracy T replacement is too similar to MVJ when some of the best head writer duos have different strengths and don't always agree).

I'm also concerned about Thomson, who I don't remember as anything but a GH staffer in late Guza II. But whatever, great has come from less.

While Wednesday episode was a low point for me as a viewer, Thursday and Friday made up for it as both episodes built up anticipation for next week. Loved the dialogue and character interactions. Bring on next week! This one was where characters were set up to be players in the next phases of their stories.

Lord Doug is defintely a goner. He was so Smyrna and stupid today , it’s almost sad. He really has no idea how in over his head he is. Hopefully his death ushers his kids on canvas.

-- I enjoyed the Nicole and Ted scenes. Everything else? Not so much.

-- Doug seems to be hurtling towards death, but I hate that they're writing him as this stupid and careless. I mean, what is his plan? Go to Orphey Gene's and hear Randy LOUDLY bark "I might know somebody"?

-- Why is Randy acting like this?

-- Bill knows how dangerous Joey is. So why throw Doug under the bus in that way?

-- I DO NOT want to watch Joey and Vanessa in bed. I DO NOT want to see them screw. Please get Joey off my screen.

-- I'm all for Vanessa having a piece of the action, but as a realtor selling homes worth millions, isn't she already wealthy?

-- I want Eva to tell her mother something other than "Oh, maw-ma!" It's a constant enabling that's already tired.

-- I absolutely hated the Anita/Leslie scenes. The acting was fine. That's not the problem, which is that Anita should not be kind to Leslie -- not with the sh_it Leslie has pulled on her and on the family. Leslie wrecked her daughter's marriage, purchased the mansion across the street, and bought her way into Fairmont Crest. Anita should HATE her for all of that.

-- And no, Anita, Barbara did not come up with "Articulettes Strong." GMAFB.

-- Are Andre and Dani going to get drunk and get married in Vegas, a la Ross and Rachel in Friends?

-- Those previews don't do much for me.

-- Yes, BTG is 100x better than Y&R. But that's really a low bar. We all know Y&R is beyond horrible. I want GATES to be better than this, and I don't think this was a good week.

    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
    • It absolutely was; the narrative was there, and they followed it promptly. Maybe that's back when women had babies at young ages?!?!?

    • Thanks for asking that!  Back when we had another major event upcoming (a party or the concert), I had intended to ask what everyone here was planning to wear.
